by Brinke

This little pupster is a man of many voices. Speakers up for this one!

“Bruce (a Boston Terrier) is a silly dog and he makes silly noises. He loves other animals and this is how he acts when he sees one, but can’t go play with it,” says YouTuber MorbidAngela.

by Not That Mike The Other Mike

All right, ma’am, we’re going to merge onto the sidewalk, so remember your turn signal… Uh, you missed the turn back there, but it’s okay, we can cut through this hardware store… Now, in about 500 feet, there’s a ravine, but I think we can jump it if you hit the gas now…

[*Note: If you are considering getting a rat, please know that rats are very social animals and only do well in pairs or groups. It is a rare case for a rat to prefer to be a lone rat, like Marty and his hoomins are with him ALL day. So if you are considering a rat adoption, please consider getting two or more and double your fun! We want all rats to be happy and healthy!” -Marty’s Hoomin.

Crazy Is Flowering

Call Center, Florist | NJ, USA

(I work in a flower delivery company call center, in customer service. We take orders and send them out to local floral shops all over the country. I’m working in ‘order modification.’)

Me: “Thank you for calling. This is [My Name] speaking. Can I start by getting your name?”

Customer: “My name? Why do you need that?”

Me: “I need to identify who is calling and how to address you, but that’s okay. Can I have your recipient’s name?”

Customer:Recipipant? What’s a recipipant?”

Me: “Well, ma’am, the RECIPIENT is who is getting the flowers. May I have their name?”

Customer: “Well… I don’t know what a recipient is but the delivery getter’s name is [Recipient]. I need you to change my order. I need you to change my name to spell it the correct way.”

Me: “Ma’am, I was able to find your order by the recipient’s name. I can change your spelling of your name for you. Can you tell me the correct spelling?”

Customer: “No. I will not tell you. You have no right to ask me things this personal. You can fix it yourself. Goodbye.” *hangs up*

Supervisor: “I didn’t know you were so intrusive and psychic. How do you get all the crazies?”

Cats: You Nevah Know What Yer Gonna Git

by Brinke

We all know typical cat behavior: they ignore you and do what they want. Sometimes, though- they have some new type of behavior hidden up their paw sleeve.

Cats can be tricky like that.

Take this first video for example. A perfectly done O…M…G.

Then this kitteh displays a total mastery of every door lock in and outside his living space.

And finally, imagine your embarrassment when you bark like a dog at someone- get busted- and have to switch back to “Meow Mode.”

A 19th Century Telephone Network Covered Stockholm in Thousands of Phone Lines

by Christopher Jobson

A 19th Century Telephone Network Covered Stockholm in Thousands of Phone Lines telephones Stockholm history

In the late 19th century, shortly after the patent of the telephone, the race was on to connect everyone to the phone grid. However, due to technical limitations of the earliest phone lines, every telephone required its own physical line strung between a house or business to a phone exchange where the call was manually connected by a live operator. The somewhat quixotic result of so many individual lines was the construction of elaborate and unsightly towers that carried hundreds to thousands of phone lines through the air.

In Stockholm, Sweden, the central telephone exchange was the Telefontornet, a giant tower designed around 1890 that connected some 5,000 lines which sprawled in every direction across the city. Just by looking at historical photos it’s easy to recognize the absurdity and danger of the whole endeavor, especially during the winter months. Everything that could possibly go wrong did. From high winds to ice storms and fires, the network was extremely vulnerable to the elements. Luckily, phone networks evolved so rapidly that by 1913 the Telefontornet was completely decommissioned in favor of much simpler technology. The remaining shell stood as a landmark until it too caught fire in 1953 and was torn down.

If you want to see more, the Tekniska Museet (the Museum of Technology) in Stochkholm has hundreds of photos from this strange period over on Flickr organized into four main galleries: Linjeras och eldsvådor (accidents), Telefonstationer Stockholm, telephone stations in other parts of Sweden, and the Telefontornet.
