Watch a Japanese Kokeshi Doll Emerge From a Spinning Block of Wood

In an age of the ubiquitous 3D printer, it’s easy to forget the joy and beauty of handmade craft. Take, for example, the 400-year old Japanese art of creating kokeshi dolls. These traditional wooden figurines were said to have been originally made as souvenirs to sell to people visiting the local hot springs in Northern Japan. Although there are about 10 different styles, each doll is made with an enlarged head and cylindrical body with no arms or legs.
In the video, produced by tetotetote, an organization highlighting the arts and crafts of Sendai, Japan, Yasuo Okazaki woodturns solid blocks into the head and body using just a few tools. Okazaki’s “Naruko” style of making the dolls was passed down to him from his father and features stripes at the top and bottom of the body and bangs with red headdresses. I don’t think there’s anything more soothing and hypnotic than the sights and sounds of watching these dolls emerge from a spinning block of wood.

Corre que dá, miga! Mulheres e tecnologia, no Google amanhã 30/10

I can still remember the day we met. She swam by and glanced at me, with a look that was so shy… Well, not shy, really, it was more — what’s the word? — demure. No, bashful… actually, more like coquettish… Flirtatious? Sly? Sneaky-lookish? Hang on, it’ll come to me…

Wacky High-Speed Portraits of Puppies Caught Mid-Shake by Carli Davidson

Published today from Harper Design, Shake Puppies is the latest jowl-flapping canine photo book from Portland-based pet and wildlife photographer Carli Davidson. The dangerously adorable collection of images is a follow-up to her 2013 book Shake that similarly featured high-speed photos of adult dogs caught mid-shake as their ears, lips, fur and drool flies in every direction.
Davidson began photographing animals while on staff at the Oregon Zoo, a passion that eventually led to a career shooting portraits of exotic animals, pets with disabilities, and a plethora of cats and dogs. Shake Puppies is available now through Amazon.

The absence of women in history is man made.
How petty
just look at babe ruth’s face tho

pure hater shit
Jackie Mitchell…a bad ass lady I had never heard of.
From her Wikipedia page: “Seventeen-year-old Jackie Mitchell, brought in to pitch in the first inning after the starting pitcher had given up a double and a single, faced Babe Ruth. After taking a ball, Ruth swung and missed at the next two pitches. Mitchell’s fourth pitch to Ruth was a called third strike. Babe Ruth glared and verbally abused the umpire before being led away by his teammates to sit to wait for another batting turn. The crowd roared for Jackie. Babe Ruth was quoted in a Chattanooga newspaper as having said:
"I don’t know what’s going to happen if they begin to let women in baseball. Of course, they will never make good. Why? Because they are too delicate. It would kill them to play ball every day."
Next up was the Iron Horse Lou Gehrig, who swung through the first three pitches to strike out. Jackie Mitchell became famous for striking out two of the greatest baseball players in history.
A few days after Mitchell struck out Ruth and Gehrig, baseball commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis voided her contract and declared women unfit to play baseball as the game was “too strenuous.”[5][10] Mitchell continued to play professionally, barnstorming with the House of David, a men’s team famous for their very long hair and long beards.[11] While travelling with the House of David team, she would sometimes wear a fake beard for publicity.”
TL;DR: teenage girl strikes out two of the greatest baseball players ever, teenage girl gets her contract voided, teenage girl plays baseball wearing fake beard
These guys were so fucking injured by a teenage girl’s awesomeness that they literally threw a hissyfit and hung up a sign that said “NO GIRLS.”
They gave up.
They couldn’t handle it.
Losers.
Teenage girls are amazing.

The Secret Of Maru’s Cow REVEALED
Blue Footed Booby noticed in the earlier Maru video that, in fact, the mysterious cow we see in most of the videos has a map of the world on it! And so it does:

So, applying a little logic (a lot of Amazon.jp boxes in Mugumogu’s house, yo) we checked the site, and….bingo.

Cost is $52 USD and change as of this writing, according to the converter.

NO idea if they’ll ship worldwide.
