Chocolatexture by Nendo
Nendo, a Japanese design firm, made an outstanding and eye-catching project for Maison & Objet 2015. Looking into the possibility of infusing complex textures and visual compositions to chocolate, the aptly named project Chocolatexture showcases design in a playful and imaginative light.
Chocolate is a much loved and familiar treat around the world, so it’s not surprising to find variations of recipes, the format doesn’t take center stage very often though. Nendo proposes to manipulate the texture and how it may alter the taste as well. Offering 9 types of small cubes, very distinct from one another.
Taking a provisional food like a small chocolate and treating it with visual compositions and designs worthy of long-lasting materials such as wood is an intrepid move. This is a praise-worthy project that points into very interesting possibilities for Nendo.

‘Manga Plates’ by Mika Tsutai
Ka-Pow! Bang! Wham! This comic style photo series “manga plates” really packs a punch! A creative display depicting the fun side of food. Plating that tells a story of heros, and heroines, now that’s something we can sink our teeth into. Designer Mika Tsutai is the creator behind this clever tale of food. Brightly colored ingredients pop against the black and white magna anime plate designs. We can’t wait to start playing with our food!
