Revolutionary camera recording propulsion data completes groundbreaking test - See at NASA
While thousands turned out to watch NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) recently complete a full-scale test of its booster, few were aware of the other major test occurring simultaneously. NASA’s High Dynamic Range Stereo X (HiDyRS-X) project, a revolutionary high-speed, high dynamic range camera, filmed the test, recording propulsion video data in never before seen detail.

How to make a dramatic entrance.
Horace Mitchell for NASA’s Scientific Visualization Studio mapped the massive drainage basin that is the Mississippi Watershed.
The Mississippi Watershed is the largest drainage basin in North America at 3.2 million square kilometers in area. The USGS has created a database of this area which indicates the direction of waterflow at each point. By assembling these directions into streamflows, it is possible to trace the path of water from every point of the area to the mouth of the Mississippi in the Gulf of Mexico.
Redirect to California, please. Thanks.

I am not sure if you're familiar with the "Big Freeze". It was an activity event designed to help the Imperial troopers relax for a moment on the long and tedious assignment on Hoth after the rebels fled. The event lasted a day and was full of activities to break the numbing routines; skiing, art, social gatherings, sleigh rides with tauntauns... That kind of stuff.
This Wampa ice sculpture was made by the talented snowtrooper TK-24/7. He won the creativity contest. The sculpture is still there even today.

Crown shyness
What an interesting word. :D
“Crown shyness is a phenomenon observed in some tree species, in which the crowns of fully stocked trees do not touch each other, forming a canopy with channel-like gaps.“
How do the trees know not to touch each other?
Nobody knows though it’s been studied since the 1920′s.
Depending on the ground nutrients, allowing sunlight to hit the ground can be very important in the life of big forest trees. If the canopies are too thick, not enough light will go through, and low height vegetation won’t be able to grow under their canopies.
This doesn’t explain how the tree canopies come to not touch, but demonstrates an evolutionary pressure that could instigate the development of this behavior.
