An absolutely shocking campaign that is truly brilliant. These images are of actual human rights abuse victims taken by traveling journalists form a variety of countries that have been placed into Switzerland’s surroundings. The shock of seeing these individuals right in front of the public eye certainly shed new light on the issue and caused a global stir.

This past weekend British artists Jamie Wardley and Andy Moss accompanied by numerous volunteers, took to the beaches of Normandy with rakes and stencils in hand to etch 9,000 silhouettes representing fallen people into the sand. Titled The Fallen 9000, the piece is meant as a stark visual reminder of the civillians, Germans and allied forces who died during the D-Day beach landings at Arromanches on June 6th, 1944 during WWII. The original team consisted of 60 volunteers, but as word spread nearly 500 additional local residents arrived to help with the temporary installation that lasted only a few hours before being washed away by the tide. Como fazer o Rainbow Cake (Bolo Arco-Íris)

by Joyce Nunes

Incredible Footage of Trees Being Swallowed in Seconds by a Louisiana Sinkhole trees sinkholes Louisiana environment

In this clip shot yesterday by members of the Assumption Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness in Louisiana, an entire stand of trees is suddenly swallowed by an underwater sinkhole above a collapsing salt mine. The sinkhole is part of an ongoing environmental disaster in Bayou Corne, and efforts are underway to prevent it from spreading, however it has already forced the evacuation of an entire town. Explore popular pictures of insects, and you’re bound to find the mantis. Easily recognized by their distinctive forelegs and triangular face, these bugs eat pests with such aggression that they inspired two Chinese martial art styles. Mantises are even pampered as exotic pets by their devoted fans, unlike their closest relatives, cockroaches and termites. More than 2,400 species comprise their Mantodea insect order, including the uniquely camouflaged ones that mimic vegetation.

London-based artist Leonardo Ulian (previously) has completed a new body of work titled Sacred Space. Inspired by Hindu and Buddhist symbolism, Ulian continues his exploration of technology and spiritualism with these carefully sculpted mandalas created with soldered computer and radio components. Via Beers.Lambert:

Ulian’s reflexive use of the geometrical mandala can also be seen as a nod to his ‘past-life’ as an technican, but through his application, Ulian divorces the electronic components from their origins, giving new life to these (now defunct) technological bits, creating a new type of hybridization that is equal parts spiritualization and contemporary critique: “We live in a society that worships electronic technology,” he states “both for necessity but also because it makes us feel better, not unlike its own new form of fashionable spirituality.”

Of particular note in this solo show is an amazing little three-dimensial bonsai tree titled Centrica Bonsai. If you happen to be in London, Sacred Space opens tonight at Beers.Lambert Contemporary. All photos courtesy Oskar Proctor.

Veja o tutorial acessando o post completo e seja feliz.

lickystickypickyshe: The All in One is the brainchild of...

lickystickypickyshe:

The All in One is the brainchild of designer Chris Godfrey, who said he wanted to give the working man or woman the ‘chance to dine like royalty without the washing up’.

‘Gimmicks often diminish their products to turn a profit; downgrading on the content but selling you something that’s “50 per cent more”. The All in One 12 course meal offers the average Joe; the chance to dine like royalty without the washing up.’

The full ingredients of the 12-course meal in a can are:

-A selection of local cheeses with sourdough bread
-Pickled Kobe beef with charred strawberry
-Ricotta ravioli with a soft egg yolk
-Shitake mushroom topped with filled peppers
-Halibut poached in truffle butter in a coconut crepe
-Risotto foraged ramps, prosciutto and fresh parmesan
-French onion soup with fresh thyme and gruyere cheese
-Roast pork belly and celeriac root puree
-Palate cleanser, pear ginger juice
-Rib eye steak with grilled mustard greens
-Crack pie with milk ice cream on a vanilla tuile
-French canele with a malt barley and hazelnut latte

This outrageous display of facial hair configurations made an appearance at the 4th Annual National Beard and Mustache Championships in New Orleans earlier this month. Luckily Las Vegas-based photographer Greg Anderson was on-hand to give us a front-row seat as the bizarre spectacle of facial hair paraded in front of his camera lens. The championships involved some 150 contestants from the U.S., U.K., and Canada who competed in 17 different categories. If this isn’t enough, here’s a giant gallery of 164 portraits from the event. Designed through a unique collaboration between sculptor Anish Kapoor, architect Arata Isozaki, and the Lucerne Festival, Ark Nova is the first large-scale infalatable concert hall ever constructed. Conceived over a year ago, the mobile structure will open to the public on October 14th and will be host to concerts, events, and workshops in tsunami-damaged areas around the country.

Made from a translucent purple membrane reminiscent of a parachute, the organic structure can inflate in roughly two hours and seats up to 500 people, and will be easily transported around the region. Additionally, wood from tsunami-damaged cedar trees at the Zuiganji Temple in Matsushima was repurposed to build seating and acoustic reflectors in the hall’s interior. You can read more about it over on Spoon & Tamago and see more photos on Lucerne Festival Ark Nova’s Facebook page.

Rome-based artist Mr. Thoms has worn just about every creative hat imaginable from writer, painter and sculptor, to graphic designer, cartoonist, set designer, filmmaker and illustrator. His breadth of expertise really shines though in his street art, where he often incorporates elements of his canvas or backdrop into the artwork itself. A giant metal door becomes a flapping ear for a grinning head, or the geometric topography of an abandoned wall is anthropomorphized into a demented, pill-popping caricature. To see more of Mr. Thoms work you can head over to his website, or follow along via Facebook. (via Collater.al)
