[Ruben van der Vleuten] wanted to get a look at the adventure a package experiences when shipped from one place to another. So he threw together this mishmash of components to record the experience. We certainly enjoyed watching the fast motion video found after the break. We wonder what the shipping agency thinks about this sort of thing?

Camera, digital storage, and battery technology have gotten to the point that it’s both cheap and easy to do this sort of surveillance. But there are a few logistical things that [Ruben] took into account to make this work quite well. First off, he need to hide the camera in a way that would ensure the package didn’t look suspicious. He ended up writing his name on the side of the box and boring a hole through one of the black letters which is smaller than a pea and very hard to spot. To make sure he wasn’t recording a ton of empty (dark) frames he also included electronics to sense motion. When the package is moving the video is always rolling. when not moving the hardware wakes for just 3 seconds every minute to shoot video.

One of the most astounding mysteries of the world is this ancient tile pattern in Greece, dated to about 1,500 B.C.

It was little more than a curiosity until 2008 when its resemblance to a QR Code was recognized. First photographed in 1871 by the British Antiquities Society, they were known as the “Chinese Box Tiles” owing to the closest thing anyone had seen to the strange pattern. Little was known about the titles except that they were installed along with other beachfront roads on the isle of Igrigoria in ancient times.

In was in 2008 that QR codes became popular enough that a traveler recognized the tiles as bearing an unmistakable resemblance to the computer code which had only been developed 3,500 years after the tiles were first laid. It was another two years before anyone with a QR capable phone traveled to the island to attempt a capture.

The mystery only deepened when the phone was able to recognize the code, which lead to the original Nyan Cat video on youtube.

Este senhor tem menos de 50 anos. Ele tem 152 kg para 1,60m de altura e na nossa avaliação de hoje respondeu que tinha 110kg em última tomada de peso, realizada no ano passado.

Antes de pesá-lo perguntei quanto ele calculava que estaria pesando e ele respondeu: ‘cento e vinte’. Já sofre pressão alta de difícil controle, diabetes, insuficiência venosa com ulcerações crônicas nos membros inferiores e seus joelhos já não suportam adequadamente o peso do corpo, causando-lhe dores e alterações na marcha.

O abdome muito volumoso prejudica seu sono o que faz com que sua pressão fique ainda mais descontrolada. Ele vive muito cansado e necessita com urgência de apoio de equipe multidisciplinar para perda de peso, reabilitação física e tratamento das comorbidades.

Como aconteceu com ele, quando o paciente chega a um determinado ponto de obesidade ele pode ganhar vinte quilos ou mais sem se dar conta e se este processo não for interrompido finda havendo grave déficit de mobilidade. A imobilidade  piora ainda mais o prognóstico, já que a queima de calorias cai mais ainda, a ansiedade aumenta, a autoestima cai e o paciente come ainda mais. A família, sem poder fazer nada e se sentindo impotente, tende a consolar o parente com mais comida.

De quem é a culpa? Difícil saber, a obesidade é uma condição crônica e multifatorial.  Ela aumentou nas últimas décadas em boa parte do mundo mesmo sem que tenhamos sofrido alterações evolutivas neste sentido. A mudança foi ambiental. O que houve foi uma explosão de expressão de uma predisposição latente. Podemos considerar a obesidade em geral uma das consequências da vida moderna, temos um acesso hipertrofiado a alimentos com alto índice calórico e paulatinamente temos feito menos atividade física. Antigamente se andava a pé, hoje de transporte público ou particular, então quem tem genética desfavorável neste sentido finda desenvolvendo obesidade.

Na época em que eu fazia consultório já atendia crianças com colesterol alto e com resistência à insulina. Uma das coisas mais difíceis era convencer a família a ingressar em uma dieta junto com a criança pois em boa parte dos casos as crianças obesas eram filhas de pais no mínimo com sobrepeso. A reeducação deve ser de toda a família e continuada pois do contrário não funciona. Se a criança só come hamburger isso ocorre porque alguém está permitindo. Quem tem família com tendência à obesidade precisa se esforçar muito para nadar contra esta maré, e não é fácil.
