Holley Mangold appreciation post.

Because Nick Mangold blah, blah, blah- she is an Olympian! Let’s talk about her!

Because literally every article starts out with how fat she is.

Because people talk about how she needs a makeover instead of her incredible talent.

Because fuck you, that’s why.

This woman can lift more than I weigh over her head so that’s pretty friggin’ cool IMO

but guys

In a head-on collision accident in 2007 that demolished her truck, she escaped serious injury by “pushing the steering wheel away from her body as the crash occurred, leaving the steering wheel broken and crumpled.”

She saved her life and broke a fucking car in the process

Did you guys know?

princess-peachie:

It’s actually normal for a lot of people to react to stress, anger, or any emotional situation with tears and it has nothing to do with how strong a person they are?

Even Winston Churchill and Abraham Lincoln cried easily.

And making fun of someone for something they can’t control is a dick move.

Now you know.

I literally cannot stop the waterworks when I get angry, it is really frustrating and makes me look childish and I want people to take me seriously but I just turn into a watery baby so now I FEAR FEELING ANGRY xD;;

My body’s reaction to stress is to cry. Bad stress, good stress, not enough sleep, whatever. Stress = tears. Which is why I will never make fun of someone for crying.

With that said: in some bad situations, I go straight past crying to icy, poisonous rage, where I will do or say whatever I need to in order to raze and salt the earth of that particular situation. I’m not proud of that side of my personality, and I try to keep that version of Jilli locked away. But sometimes? Sometimes she’s needed.

That is a nice coat. I should make one with big cuffs like that.

Oooo. Coat: Get in my closet. Now.

Dear Infamous BlueJay, the StuntHusband and I REALLY DO need coats like that. Yes, with the giant cuffs. Please stop glaring at me, at least it isn’t 140 feet of ruffles this time.

Nope, sorry, the overhead bin space is completely full. You will have to spend the next three hours hanging from the tail like a flag in the wind. Now sit back, relax, and enjoy the flight!

These Mesmerizing, Morphing Chandeliers Move Like Jellyfish

by Theron Sturgess

shy-featThis project transforms overhead lighting into kinetic sculptures. Studio Drift, an art and design studio in Amsterdam, has created the silken, flowery “Shylights.” When raised to the ceiling these lights are retracted in their cocoon-like container. They  descend like airborne jellyfish, filling the room with light and movement. In design, […]

#FreetheNipple explodes in Iceland after a young woman was attacked online for exposing her own

The Free the Nipple movement, which aims to desexualize women’s breasts by posting ordinary pictures of exposed nipples on social media, has been around for almost a year. But it gained national momentum last week after a 17-year-old, Adda Þóreyjardóttir Smáradóttir, received a vicious backlash for posting a picture of her breasts. Her photograph was in direct response to a picture one of her male friends posted of himself without a shirt.

Rather than being greeted with enthusiasm, Smáradóttir received misogynistic threats. Outraged feminists, male and female alike, came to her defense by posting pictures of their nipples.

Crimes of the Art

Crimes of the Art is a weekly survey of artless criminals’ cultural misdeeds. Crimes are rated on a highly subjective scale from one “Scream” emoji — the equivalent of a vandal tagging the exterior of a local history museum in a remote part of the US — to five “Scream” emojis — the equivalent of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum heist.

College Art Thief Gets an F

crimes-of-the-art-scream-1Police in Biddeford, Maine, have arrested Jachin Caron for stealing four paintings worth a total of approximately $400 from an exhibition at Heartwood College of Art. Caron, 25, was caught on camera lifting the canvases off the wall at the Pepperell Mill exhibition space, and tips from members of the community led to his arrest.

Verdict: Today’s thieves apparently don’t know about ski masks. Let’s hope it stays that way.

Greasing the Palm with 100 Paintings

crimes-of-the-art-scream-4Darius Valcov, Romania’s former finance minister, has been detained on suspicion that he accepted bribes when he was the mayor of a town in the south of the country. The gifts he received allegedly include three kilos of gold bars, more than $400,000 cash, and over 100 paintings, including works by Pablo Picasso, Auguste Renoir, and Andy Warhol.

Verdict: Use the confiscated loot to open a museum.

Picasso Framer Framed?

crimes-of-the-art-scream-4A retired frame-maker in Rome claims he was given a Picasso painting — now said to be worth €15 million (~$16.1 million) — by a customer as repayment for a kind act. The client had come into the frame shop after accidentally smashing the glass on a framed image of his late wife, and the frame-maker replaced it for free. Italian police appear unmoved by the sweet story, and seized the Cubist still life after the frame-maker tried to consign it at Sotheby’s.

Verdict: Repayment for favors, bribes for politicians, interior decoration … Is there anything Picasso paintings can’t be used for?

Very Suspect Versace Shirts

crimes-of-the-art-scream-4The designer Kesh has called out Versace for peddling £440 (~$650) shirts that bear a striking resemblance to a line of $30 tops she designed for American Apparel several years ago. Kesh says her lawyers will be contacting Versace over the suspiciously similar designs.

Verdict: It doesn’t take facial recognition software to see the similarity.

Jade Thief Fesses Up

crimes-of-the-art-scream-1Twenty-seven-year-old Robert Gilbert Smith pleaded guilty to conspiracy to steal artifacts in connection with a series of heists that struck British museums and auction houses in 2012. He and 13 others were arrested in a series of raids that took place in 2013 after objects, including a rhinoceros horn and Chinese jade, were stolen from the Durham University Oriental Museum, Norwich Castle Museum, Gorringes Auction House, Fitzwilliam Museum, and elsewhere. Eleven of Smith’s cohorts have pleaded not guilty and two others have yet to enter a plea.

Verdict: Art theft rings take note, the more people are in your crew the more likely that someone will crack.

Have You Seen This Art?

crimes-of-the-art-scream-3Artist Edgar Ruiz has been hanging “Lost Art” flyers around Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood after he claims that three works that were part of a one-night exhibition at LMNT Studios went missing. The flyers read: “Missing: Last Seen in the Hands of the Idiots at LMNT.” The studio, which initially cooperated with Ruiz and offered to pay him for the missing works, is now considering charging him with harassment.

Verdict: In an overly litigious culture, public shaming only works up to a point.

Captivating Geometric GIFs by Florian de Looij

by Christopher Jobson

florian-7

Florian de Looij first sat down with a copy of Photoshop when he was 12 years old and apparently he never got up. The Netherlands-based designer has been exploring digital animation and illustration ever since, and late last year started sharing his animation experiments on a Tumblr called FLRN GIF. Florian says he’s always been inspired by the likes of M.C. Escher and other artists working with optical illusions, something that has clearly influenced the direction of his design practice. He tries to make a new GIF each day, and you can see tons more in his archives. (via Cross Connect)
