New DNA test makes it easier to pinpoint identical twin responsible for a crime

DNA profiling (or genetic fingerprinting) has proved to be a revolutionary tool for forensic investigators as a means to identify potential suspects, exonerate the innocent and convict the guilty. But, like any forensic technique, it has its limitations. One limitation is in cases involving identical twins, something that has raised technical, legal and ethical problems — until now.
The more closely related one human is to another, the more similar their DNA profiles. For example, the probability of a DNA match between two random, unrelated individuals is in the region of one in a billion. For two full siblings, the probability drops to one in 10,000. Identical twins present the same DNA profile. Read more...

A Magnetic Brain Implant Lets Blind Rats See Without Seeing

A new brain implant doesn’t restore sight in blind rats, but it does something a whole lot weirder: give the rat the extra sense of geomagnetism. It could one day be a new way to navigate for blind people–or heck, even healthy people hankering for a sixth sense.

Mortal Kombat X will have rotating free DLC characters, like League of Legends
If you're picking up Mortal Kombat X but don't feel like shelling out for the DLC, I don't blame you. The good news is that according to an interview with Angry Joe, Ed Boon has confirmed that all four current DLC characters (Tanya, Predator, Jason, Tremor) will be playable in some limited form for free. As a feature within the Tower Mode, there will be three towers that allow players to "try" the DLC. Characters will shift in and out based on a rotation, but they won't be able to be used in ranked play -- they're strictly for testing.
While day-one DLC isn't ideal, a ton of fighting games already do it and don't add this option. By letting people get to know all four add-on characters they at least allow players to stay competitive and learn the ins and outs, frames, and movesets of said fighters.

I Toned My Weak Vagina With This Little Blue Blob

The thought was delivered just after my newborn’s placenta: A sneaking suspicion that things were not quite the same down there, and they might never be again. I was reminded of the kGoal, a device that claimed it could tone my ladyparts back into pre-baby shape. Once my daughter had finished using my vagina as a giant elastic waterslide, I knew I had to try it.
First ‘Ash vs Evil Dead’ Promo Is a Graphic Tease

Production hasn’t even started on Ash vs. Evil Dead, but there’s already a teaser for the upcoming Starz show. This first promo is a brief animated video that uses some familiar typography, sounds, and visual concepts to prime audiences for the return of Bruce Campbell as Sam Raimi’s often-bludgeoned hero Ash. Check out the first Ash vs Evil Dead promo below.
This is set to air on Saturday with the return of Outlander, but thanks to Starz and THR you can see it online now.
Sam Raimi is directing the pilot, which he wrote with his brother Ivan Raimi and Tom Spezialy. The long-time Evil Dead producing team of Raimi, Campbell, and Robert Tapert are behind the show; Craig DiGregorio will serve as showrunner.
There’s no premiere date for Ash vs Evil Dead at this point, but expect to see it in Fall 2015. Here’s how Starz describes the show.
Bruce Campbell will be reprising his role as Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons –personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its “Evil” grip.
The cast is led by Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead, “Burn Notice”) in the role of Ash Williams, Lucy Lawless (“Salem,” “Spartacus”) as Ruby a mysterious figure who believes Ash is the cause of the Evil outbreaks, Jill Marie Jones (“Sleepy Hollow”) as Amanda Fisher, a disgraced Michigan State Trooper set to find our anti-hero Ash and prove his responsibility in the grisly murder of her partner, Ray Santiago (“Touch,” Meet the Fockers) as Pablo Simon Bolivar, an idealistic immigrant who becomes Ash’s loyal sidekick and Dana DeLorenzo (A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas) as Kelly Maxwell, a moody wild child trying to outrun her past.

Snapchat has one key advantage over every other social network
FatbobIt might not be snapchat that becomes the big thing, but snapchat has def modeled the future for social media
According to new comScore data charted for us by BI Intelligence, millennials — those 80 million people aged 18 and 34 — account for a much larger share of Snapchat’s user base than they do on any other major social network, including Facebook, which actually had one of the lowest shares of millennial users at just 38%. The only app with fewer millennials on its network: LinkedIn.
Unlike Facebook and LinkedIn, where one's digital data is stored and sometimes shared with third parties, all posts to Snapchat disappear after a certain amount of time, or after they're viewed, which makes it attractive for those that don't want records of their digital activities.

Airlines Infuse Their Planes with Smells to Calm You Down

(Photo: Frankie Roberto)
Major airlines have developed branded scents to appeal to customers' olfactory tastes and make the travel experience more enjoyable. For example, United Airlines developed a scent called Landing, which it pumps into lounges and jet bridges and infuses into hot towels. It smells like fir trees and orange peels. Suzy Strutner of the Huffington Post reports:
"(The scent) is noticeable, but not in any way overpowering," Krolick told The Huffington Post. "We want to catch someone at a positive part of their experience, and then (they'll) smell this smell and think of United."
It's all part of a United branding initiative to boost the flight experience with all five senses. The airline is also testing a more "modern" style of boarding music and playing with "mood lighting" in plane cabins, Krolick said.

The Walking Dead as Zombieland
If The WalkingDead were a comedy, it would be the 2009 film Zombieland. This mashup trailer tries to make that a reality, although they had to look really hard to find a few smiles and quasi-lighthearted moments from five years of The Walking Dead clips. Contains lots of gore. (via Uproxx)
The 90-minute season five finale of The Walking Dead is tonight. The death watch poll is still open for your votes and opinions.
