Electron Microscope Shows How Vinyl LP's Are Played

by Danielle Andrew

Have you ever wondered how a vinyl player actually plays a record? How Elvis' crooning voice can slip from a vinyl right into your ears like he's standing beside you (ignoring the odd scratch or bump of course – nothing is perfect)? Well, wonder no more. Microscopic Images shared this image on their Twitter some months back, showing what a record's groove looks like under 1000x magnification.

Marvel Puzzle Quest celebrates second birthday with an epic Galactus boss fight

by Philip Kollar

Marvel Puzzle Quest, D3 Go's free-to-play casual match-three game, is celebrating its second birthday this weekend. And the publishers has invited a special guest for the occasion: the eater of worlds himself, Galactus.

Beginning this Thursday, Oct. 8, Marvel Puzzle Quest players will be able to take part in a boss battle event against Galactus. As with the previous Ultron boss fight event from this summer, players will need to work together to chip away at Galactus' health and eventually take him down.

The game will also feature two new multiplayer tournaments during the birthday celebrations: one focused on Devil Dinosaur and one focused on "the class of 2015" — all the playable heroes and villains introduced to the game throughout...

Genius Phone Accessory That’ll Make Your Dog Pose For The Perfect Selfie

by Dainius

kinda want this

San Diego resident Jason Hernandez solved the puzzle of how to take the perfect selfie with your dog. Hernandez’s company, Clever Dog Products, is presently Kickstarting the Pooch Selfie, a selfie stick for dogs. Its design is simple: the Pooch Selfie allows you to attach a ball to the top of your phone, keeping your dog’s attention fixated on your camera.

“Pooch Selfie does exactly what it is supposed to do in holding a dog’s attention,” said Hernandez. “It doesn’t change who the dog is, so if you have a bad dog, you have a bad dog.”

The Pooch Selfie has been under development for a year and aims to ship by December 2015. $13 will buy you one of these 3D-printed devices through Kickstarter.

Bloodborne: The Old Hunters was originally two DLC packs

by Allegra Frank

i should try to finish this again. and again. and again. and again. and again.

The upcoming downloadable content expansion for Bloodborne, The Old Hunters, was initially conceived as two separate add-on packs, Eurogamer reports.

From Software's Masaaki Yamagiwa revealed in an interview that the developer planned to release two DLC sets for the PlayStation 4 game. However, "it was decided that with one set, we'd be able to do more with it, and have more volume for players to play with," Yamagiwa said.

The producer added that The Old Hunters, which made its debut at Tokyo Game Show earlier this week, is the only expansion planned for the game.

More details about the pack also emerged from the show floor: The Old Hunters will feature 10...

Playing Scrabble Changes the Way You Use Your Brain

by George Dvorsky

Experienced Scrabble players know there’s more to the game than an expansive vocabulary. An effective player should also be able to quickly find words in a jumble of letters. Developing this skill, reports a team of Canadian researchers, will not only improve your game, it will change the way you use your brain.

The Not-So-Invisible Damage From VW Diesel Cheat: $100 Million In Health Costs

by Noelle Eckley Selin

Cheating is not a victimless crime. The recent revelations that Volkswagen rigged in-vehicle software to defeat emissions tests are but the latest example of efforts to evade regulations that protect human health and the environment.

In crimes against the environment, it’s sometimes difficult to calculate who is affected and how substantial the damages are. However, it is possible to estimate the damages, based on our understanding of the atmosphere and of how pollutants affect human health.

and just think, a year ago LA weekly was solely referring to him as "The German Dr Woo". right on, his work is genius but a little too metal for me to wear till i die

I’m really excited to be featured as “Best of L.A. 2015” in the LA Weekly.  I would have never imagined that when I travelled to Los Angeles the first time five years ago. At this time I was actually not staying in the city for tattooing instead I came here for making live music with my brother @joel.myr (big thanks to @dasbunker for making this possible!). Within the last months I’ve already explored so much of this city, the nature and also other states in the US and I’m glad and proud to contribute my part to this amazing country and I can’t imagine somebody better to share these experiences than with my beautiful girlfriend @sarafabel and I look forward for what the future brings. I also want to thank all my friends, my awesome clients and everybody who supported me.

Watch the World's Tiniest Lion Fail Spectacularly at Roaring

by Mark Shrayber

I hope there’s a live-action Lion King coming, because we’ve just found the perfect Young Simba (older Simba, of course, will be played by Jonathan Taylor Thomas emerging from his semi-retirement). This lion cub probably wouldn’t want anyone to be cooing over how precious he is—he’s a wild ferocious creature!—but until he can roar properly, he’s just going to have to deal with it.
