The New ‘Inspiration Pad’ Turns the Conventional Blue-Lined Notebook Upside Down

Brussels-based design and advertising firm TM led by Marc Thomasset, just released the second edition of their wildly popular Inspiration Pad. The ruled notebook plays with the traditional red and blue-lined design of notebooks, turning each spread into a different layout to “inspire people to unleash their own creativity.” The 48-page notebook is printed on sustainable paper and is available here. A Breakdown of Why VHS Beat Betamax in the Videotape Format Wars
In “How Sony’s Betamax lost to JVC’s VHS Cassette Recorder,” Engineer Guy Bill Hammack takes on the videotape format wars of the late-1970s/early-1980s, explaining why Betamax ultimately lost out, in spite having some clear advances over the VHS format.
Betamax versus VHS dispells the notion that simply being first to market is the most important issue. It reminds us that simply being better in one area isn’t enough — here the superior image quality of Betamax.

Notre Chauvet.

These cave paintings were done by multiple contributors just like Notre Chauvet’s work. You can see more the pop inspired collective work below:

The Gravity Tablet: Sketch in 3D.
Designers at Gravity have created a prototype tablet that allows artists and designers to sketch in augmented space to create three dimensional sketches, designs and drawings that can be shared with co-workers or printed via a 3D Printer.
Invented by four Design Engineering students at the Royal College of Art in England, Gravity looks like something straight from science fiction with it’s gridded, transparent acrylic surface where one draws while wearing special holograph viewing glasses. The users can sketch, rotate and zoom in on the drawing from any angle. Other users can even add on to the drawing.
Check out a video about Gravity below and some more pictures of the fascinating, ground breaking invention:

Add and share any web page with The Old Reader!
Randy LaueHere you go Mitch.
We’ve received a large number of requests to add a bookmarklet feature to The Old Reader. Today we are excited to be launching this functionality for our premium users. We will likely roll this functionality out to all users at some point in the future, but do not currently have a timeline in place.

The bookmarklet is quickly and easily added to your browser bookmarks and allows you to send a copy of any web page to your TOR account. Those pages are saved in the new bookmarklets section and are also searchable and sharable.

We know a lot of our users will be excited to see this new functionality and we look forward to your feedback. Thanks for using The Old Reader!

Two lowriders fight each other in the most ridiculous bouncing battle
Randy LaueOH SAY DOES THAT STAR-SPANGLED BANNER YET WAVE

Here's all the proof you need that America is a wonderful land where any dream can come true: a place exists in Texas where two lowriders bounce up and down and ridiculously fight each other. I mean, this is better than BattleBots.
New Comic: THE HOLE THE FOX DID MAKE
Randy LaueTakes about 5 minutes to read through the whole thing, and it is very worth it if you like horror (though it's not the best thing that Emily Carroll has made based on horror alone).
THE HOLE THE FOX DID MAKE is a new comic, and a bit of an experiment in a few ways (being set in the early 90s, it's more modern than my usual stuff, and it's also a strip, which I've never done before). I've been thinking of it as a tragic ghost story (as, granted, most ghost stories tend to be) but also somewhat of a mystery as well. The title, and elements of the story, were inspired by the folktale The Oxford Student. And for folks who use Tumblr, a link to the comic has been posted there also!
ALSO: I'll be having an official book launch for my short story collection Through the Woods in Toronto on July 15th, and there is info on the where & exactly-whens here!
