Zanadou writes "CyanogenMod today released for general availability a friendly[er]-to-use Windows-based installer that will automagically (no need to first root and/or unlock the bootloader) step users though downloading, flashing and setting up an appropriate CyanogenMod version on supported Android phones. Along with this, a 'companion app' that apparently helps set up the installer is now available the Play Store, along with a newly-refreshed download page. Still no image for 'hammerhead' (Nexus 5), though."

Em 2011, pesquisadores da Universidade Técnica de Berlim criaram uma câmera em formato de bola com vários sensores, que tirava fotos panorâmicas de 360 ​​graus. Ela contém 36 lentes e é resistente: você pode jogá-la ao céu sem medo de quebrar.

Nós ficamos impressionados com o protótipo (acima, à direita). Agora, a câmera se chama Panono e tem quase metade do tamanho (à esquerda). No entanto, ela é tão poderosa quanto antes e, enfim, pode ser comprada. Depois de brincarmos com a bola, podemos dizer oficialmente que, sim, ela é tão incrível quanto parece.

Atualmente, fotos panorâmicas de amadores saem estranhas ou, no mínimo, levemente distorcidas. A bola-câmera Panono, no entanto, se livra desses problemas: ela não usa lentes grande-angulares, nem reúne fotos tiradas separadamente.

Em vez disso, ela usa 36 câmeras perfeitamente cronometradas, que capturam todos os ângulos ao mesmo tempo. Dentro dela, há um acelerômetro altamente sensível, que sabe exatamente quando a bola atingiu o seu ponto mais alto. Durante essa fração de segundo em que a bola quase não está se movendo, o gadget dispara suas câmeras de foco fixo.

O acelerômetro não mede a altura, no entanto. No segundo em que a Panono sai das suas mãos, ela mede a aceleração exata de lançamento e calcula o tempo que vai demorar para chegar ao ponto mais alto. E como você pode ver na foto (interativa!) abaixo, tirada na cobertura da sede do Gizmodo US, ela faz um ótimo trabalho. Além disso, a Panono é coberta com o mesmo plástico robusto, transparente e resistente à água usado pela GoPro; por isso, ela deve aguentar algumas quedas sem problemas.

Mas em vez de jogar a Panono, você também pode inseri-la em uma vara, permitindo tirar fotos de forma mais precisa, e em lugares onde seria difícil jogar uma bola. Há também, é claro, a opção de segurá-la e apertar um botão, assim como em câmeras comuns – mas isso não é tão divertido. A bola tem 11 cm de diâmetro e 300 g.

Obviamente, não importa que essas fotos de 72 megapixels sejam incríveis – principalmente para amadores, o público-alvo da Panono – se não houver uma forma fácil de vê-las. Por isso, Jonas Pfeil, criador da Panono, fez questão de resolver isso. Assim que a bola-câmera é disparada, as imagens são automaticamente transferidas ao app gratuito para smartphone ou tablet, o que permite visualizá-las instantaneamente.

Durante o desenvolvimento da Panono, chegar a um produto finalizado não foi um processo rápido. Ela foi apresentada ao público lá em 2011, e passou um ano em desenvolvimento antes disso. Mas agora, Pfeil está finalmente vendo sua tese de mestrado em engenharia da computação se tornar realidade.

Graças em grande parte à atenção recebida por sua apresentação na conferência técnica da SIGGRAPH Asia 2011, a Panono atraiu alguns dos maiores nomes em fotografia. Ralf Coenen, ex-executivo da Leica Camera e ex-chefe da divisão de lentes na Carl Zeiss, vem trabalhando com a equipe da Panono. Ele diz:

A Panono realmente merece a descrição de revolucionária: é algo totalmente novo que, literalmente, acrescenta uma nova dimensão – 360​​° por 360° – para imagens fotográficas, e permitirá guardar nossas memórias como nunca antes, para não mencionar a diversão em capturá-las.

No entanto, esta bola de magia panorâmica não será barata. Prevista para meados de 2014, a Panono Throwable Panoramic Ball Camera custará US$ 600. Sim, é bem caro. Mas se você entrar na pré-venda do Indiegogo.com, você recebe um desconto de US$ 100 – melhor do que nada.

Artist Keng Lye whose work we explored earlier this year recently completed a new painting that blends sculpture and layers of acrylic paint to create this near lifelike red octopus. Lye often uses an egg shell to form the body of his cephalopods which then merges seamlessly with alternating layers of resin and acrylic to create an incredible sense of depth and dimensions. In California nobody is allowed to ride a bicycle in a swimming pool.

In Texas it is illegal for children to have unusual haircuts.
