Motion project by Maria Takeuchi and Frederico Phillips uses performative dance captured with two XBox One Kinect sensors, presented in an abstracted yet recognizable and fluid form:
Here is a Making-Of video showing how the work was put together:
The project is an effort to explore new ways to use and/or combine technologies and different fields in an experiment without many of the common commercial limitations. The performance is centered in an eloquent choreography that stresses the desire to be expressive without bounds.
Motion data was captured using inexpensive sensors and that data paved the way through an extensive number of steps. Once all the scanned point cloud data was combined, that was then used as the base for the creative development on the piece. A series of iterative studies on styles followed and several techniques and dynamic simulations were then applied using a number 3D tools for various results.

"Pete says: ‘We want to shoot this, you know, very important, connected moment between you and Frodo. Right, okay, let’s just do it. So get down on the carpet.’ And this was in his house.” - Andy Serkis (x)
The footage (NSFW) captures the former Deputy — Michael Slater — entering into an argument with another player known only as “David” (who was making a “trolling” video), which quickly escalates, to the point where Slater can be heard giving his home address to the man so that they can presumably throw down.
It’s around this time that Slater can be heard saying “You about to come to a f*****g paid police officer’s house. I get paid to beat up n*****s like you.”
He even gives out his badge number as “proof” of his identity.
Cherie Ward, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, confirmed to The Clarion-Ledger (via Ars Technica) that it was indeed Slater making the threats on the video, and that he was “terminated immediately after the sheriff became aware of the video”.
Amy the pig hams it up for the camera at the Family Dog Training Center in Kent, Washington. At the center, six-month-old Amy trots alongside her canine companions to work on basic manners and obstacle course training, receiving treats of lettuce and nuts as rewards for her work. Lori Stock, Amy’s human pal, says, “[Amy] is the smartest ‘dog’ I’ve ever trained.” Kathy Lang of the center reports that a pygmy goat attended classes at the center in the past, so adding a pig to their group wasn’t a big stretch.
Amy even recently performed in a demonstration at the Seattle Kennel Club Dog Show in a video from Seattle Times.

Back when Russian communism was still a thing, sometimes here in the States we’d hear of the jokes Russians told each other. (“In Soviet Union, TV watches you!”)
And we’d think that our system was better since we didn’t have to joke that way. And we were right.
But today I heard: “It’s not NSApplication — it’s NSA-pplication!” (See today’s news.)
We make Russian jokes now.
firehose'Apple currently offers three options: a straight Type C to original (Type A) USB for $19, and then two multi-port "AV" dongles for $79 each—both provide a Type C connector and an original USB connector, and then an additional HDMI or 15-pin VGA port depending on which one you buy.'
That's better than the first news, but still:
'There are no dongles that provide either DisplayPort or Thunderbolt, nor Gigabit Ethernet.'
There is one refrain that, for the last few years, always pops up at Apple events: thinness. Through magical material, design, and manufacturing advances, Apple keeps making its devices thinner. That's why it always amuses me when people slot the 6.9mm-thick iPhone 6 into a chunky case that completely counters Apple's advances. As Phil Schiller unveiled the new MacBook yesterday, a similar thought came to mind: If you buy a MacBook, the svelte silhouette of your new laptop might be ruined by a bunch of dongles.
In case you haven't read our hands-on impressions, let me bring you up to speed: The new Apple MacBook only has two ports. There's a 3.5mm headphone jack on the right, and a single USB Type C port on the left. There's no Mini DisplayPort, no Thunderbolt, no HDMI—not even the much beloved MagSafe power connector. Instead, if you want to plug anything in, you'll need a dongle. If you're the kind of person who plugs devices into your laptop—a keyboard, mouse, camera, external display, etc.—this is a bit of a problem.

Mophie, the company that makes the popular portable batteries for mobile devices, has taken a page from Alpine historical legend and partnered with the St. Bernard Rescue Foundation to dispatch adoptable St. Bernard dogs equipped with batteries to rescue SXSW attendees whose mobile devices are dying. In order to qualify, attendees must send a snapshot of their dying battery to the company’s Twitter account and Mophie will tweet back to the chosen attendee with a link providing information. The dogs will also be available at the mophieRescue Lodge on the corner of 5th Street and Trinity Street in Austin, Texas.
Inspired by tales of St. Bernard rescue dogs in the Swiss Alps, the mophieRescue Team will dispatch multiple dogs from the mophieRescue Lodge each hour starting 12pm through 6pm on March 13th, 14th and 15th. All dogs are equipped with mophie power reserve units for those in need of extra juice for their mobile devices. In addition to saving users from low battery life, mophie will work with the St. Bernard Rescue Foundation to drive awareness around St. Bernards who are in need of homes and loving families.

firehosejake locker :(
Apparently not a fan of the limelight, ex-Tennessee Titans quarterback Jake Locker announced his retirement today. The eighth overall draft pick in 2011, Locker was a free agent and reportedly had several contract offers on the table, but chose to walk away from the game at the age of 26.
firehoseyo Overbey: 'I texted a 49ers scout about Jimmy Graham trade and he sent me back one word: "F--k."'
If you thought the start of the 2015 NFL free agency period was crazy, just imagine if the people swapping teams were your friends and co-workers.
NFL free agency began with a blitz of action the moment the clock struck 4 p.m. ET. Jimmy Graham got traded to the Seahawks, Haloti Ngata was sent to the Lions, and the Eagles and Rams are reportedly getting ready to swap their second-tier quarterbacks.
The onslaught of news was a lot to comprehend for fans, much less players. These were their tweets.

train(-shaped buse)s~
Look closely. Which would you rather ride?
Transport scholars David Hensher and Corinne Mulley asked this question of residents of six cities in Australia. They included these ultra modern examples and also photographs featuring less modern trains and buses.
They found that people overwhelmingly preferred trains to buses, even though the modern bus has a dedicated lane just like the train and identical boarding and fare collection procedures.
We associate trains with romance and leisure travel or hip, urban places like Manhattan. In contrast, buses bring to mind traffic, exhaust, and being exhausted after getting off from a second job. Members of a focus group organized by the U.S. Department of Transportation, for example, had these things to say:
I’m ashamed to tell that I am taking buses…In Europe, I wouldn’t. But here, they would think, “Did he lose his job?”
The shame factor is majorly big.
I’m just saying that when I was in L.A. and I was in the car and just looking in at the bus…the people getting on….it just seems scary…
The bus has a bad rap.
But the authors found it wasn’t that simple. People from cities with better bus service tended to feel a little better about buses. If someone had recently had a good experience on a bus — like getting a seat for the whole trip — they felt better about buses. In fact, riding buses made people like buses more. People who rode more often had a better opinion.
Basically, give people good buses, good bus routes, and good service and they will come to love buses.
So, the authors argue that cities shouldn’t let the bad reputation of buses stop them from providing and improving bus service. Often buses are a better choice than trains. Bus routes are cheaper to get started and easier to change. High frequency and dedicated lanes can make them as efficient. So, if a bus is the right thing for the city, don’t give the people what they want, show them.

Miss Iris, a beautiful 13-year old Hyacinth Macaw in Palos Verdes, California gives herself a bath in the kitchen sink, constantly testing and adjusting the temperature of the water with just a little bit of assistance from her human Gail Worth.
It is a bit chilly today so I let Miss Iris have her daily bath in the sink. Notice how she always tests the water temperature with her foot before she puts her head under? She will move the faucet handle to adjust the temperature too! She prefers to take cold water hose baths outside.
After her bath, a well-washed Miss Iris polishes her beak with an emery board, a skill she learned by watching Gail do her nails.
