Governo agora quer expurgar preços do índice de preços

Tal como os dissidentes do antigo regime soviético eram expurgados, ou enviados para gulags, membros do governo brasileiro querem expurgar os preços que não se comportam conforme o governo quer... te cuida feijão carioquinha, ou ainda: vão prender o tomate.
Causa enorme estranheza a afirmação de que "(...) alguns técnicos do governo começaram a defender nos bastidores mudanças polêmicas na formulação da política econômica. Diante dos frequentes choques nos preços de produtos in natura por causa de problemas climáticos, eles acreditam que esses itens deveriam simplesmente ser retirados do cálculo do Índice de Preços ao Consumidor Amplo (IPCA)".
Será que é essa a maneira de se combater a inflação? Expurgando os dissidentes? Expulsando o chuchu? Vamos agora aos argumentos dos iluminados defensores dessa ideia absurdamente estúpida:
1) "(...) o tomate e o chuchu, por exemplo, não deveriam influenciar o IPCA total, uma vez que não são produtos insubstituíveis".
Resposta) Meus alunos de introdução a economia já aprendiam que os índices de preço tem falhas, entre elas o fato de não levarem em consideração a substituição de produtos mais caros por outros mais baratos. Só agora os gênios descobriram isso? Vejamos, quando o preço dos alimentos ajudou a inflação a permanecer baixa niguém se lembrou desse argumento. Aliás, existe algum produto que não seja substituível? Se estudassem um pouo mais saberiam que, a determinado preço, todo bem possui um substituto. Mas sigamos em frente, os iluminados querem construir um índice de preços apenas com bens insubstituíveis??? É isso mesmo que esses gênios estão propondo??? Quantos bens irão compor essa cesta de consumo? Ahh quase me esqueço, uma cesta de bens com essas características simplesmente não teria representatividade para representar a população, ou seja, seria um péssimo índice de preços.
2) "Eles afirmam que inflação teria de ser medida por itens que não podem ser trocados por outros, como combustíveis ou alimentação fora de casa".
Resposta) ERRADO. Ambos esses bens podem ser substituídos. Aliás, é extremamente fácil substituir alimentação fora de casa. Basta que se leve marmita ao trabalho (hábito este muito comum nos Estados Unidos). No fundo, a preocupação dos iluminados não é a substitutibilidade dos bens, mas sim uma maneira de se controlar artificialmente a inflação.
3) "Nos Estados Unidos, por exemplo, não há alimentos no índice oficial de inflação por uma questão simples: se você vai ao mercado e vê o tomate caro, você pode substituir por outra coisa. A gente faz isso com morango. Ninguém come morango o tempo inteiro".
Resposta) Tal afirmação tem uma profundidade quase filosófica "ninguém come morando o tempo inteiro"... nem morango e nem brioches acrescentaria eu.... opa quase que eu me esqueço, pra variar está ERRADA a afirmação referente aos Estados Unidos. Nos EUA, o índice de inflação mais comum é o consumer price index (CPI). E adivinhem só o que tem na composição do CPI??? Isto mesmo: alimentos fazem SIM parte do CPI. Se você não acredita em mim, basta clicar aqui: http://stats.bls.gov/cpi/cpifaq.htm#Question_7 (ou agora vão querer argumentar que não existem substitutos para leite, café, cereais, galinha, etc.).
4) "Essa é uma discussão interessante e oportuna. Será que o IPCA é o melhor índice para o Brasil guiar a política monetária?"
Resposta) Que tal usarmos outro índice? Que tal o IGP-M que cravou 7,3% nos últimos 12 meses? Ou então que tal usarmos o núcleo de inflação do IPCA calculado pelo próprio BACEN? Em 12 meses este índice acumulou 6,4% em março (6,6% se usarmos a dupla ponderação). Por qualquer índice a inflação no Brasil está ALTA!!! Será que é tão difícil entender isso????
Não dá pra ter assessores tão ruins assim na equipe econômica. Inflação se combate com políticas monetária e fiscal austeras, não com expurgos mágicos.

FutureWatch: How Police Can Spy on a Whole City

CA - In a secret test of mass surveillance technology, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department sent a civilian aircraft over Compton, California, capturing high-resolution video of everything that happened inside that 10-square-mile municipality.
Compton residents weren't told about the spying, which happened in 2012.
"We literally watched all of Compton during the times that we were flying, so we could zoom in anywhere within the city of Compton and follow cars and see people," Ross McNutt of Persistent Surveillance Systems told the Center for Investigative Reporting.
The technology he's trying to sell to police departments all over America can stay aloft for up to six hours. Like Google Earth, it enables police to zoom in on certain areas. And like TiVo, it permits them to rewind, so that they can look back and see what happened anywhere they weren't watching in real time. (more) (video)

Montadoras e sindicatos querem ajuda do governo para pagar salários

Montadoras e sindicatos querem propor ao governo federal um programa de proteção ao emprego. Trata-se de um sistema nacional semelhante ao que existe na Alemanha, onde os trabalhadores possam ser afastados ao invés de demitidos em épocas de crise no setor.
Neste caso, a ideia é que o afastamento seja remunerado e o custo para a empresas seria compensado através de subsídios concedidos pelo estado. Com vendas em baixa, o setor automotivo teme uma crise no Brasil e essa medida seria um paliativo para enfrentar um período de vacas magras.
Atualmente, as empresas já estão dando férias coletivas e reativando programas de demissão voluntária e de “layoff”, que é a suspensão temporária de contratos de trabalho. Nesse último caso, o FAT – Fundo de Amparo ao Trabalhador – é que custeia o pagamento de salário, mas apenas por cinco meses.
Já o sistema nacional de proteção ao emprego no setor automobilístico, teria duração de dois anos, mas sem ser integral. A ideia é que a jornada de trabalho seja reduzida de 20 a 50% e de 60 a 80% do valor das horas seriam custeados pelo governo mediante benefícios fiscais. O restante ficaria à cargo das montadoras.

Draining reservoir after urination incident shows tenuous grasp of science

The city of Portland, OR will empty a 38-million gallon reservoir after a teenager allegedly urinated in it, according to the Associated Press. It's the second time in three years that Portland is flushing its Mount Tabor reservoir after a urine-related incident.
The reservoir is open-air and sits exposed to all of nature, leading many parties to question how necessary a draining would be, or how polluted 38 million gallons of water can really be by a single man's urine.
David Shaff, Portland's water bureau administrator, reserves a special disgust specifically for human urine. In 2011, when Shaff drained the reservoir following a urination, he reasoned to the Portland Mercury, "Do you want to be drinking someone's pee?… There's probably no regulation that says I have to be doing it but, again, who wants to be drinking pee?" This time around, Shaff wrote in a statement, "Our customers have an expectation that their water is not deliberately contaminated."

Nike Fires Majority of FuelBand Team, Plans to Stop Making Wearables

Nike plans to cease making wearable hardware and it has fired the majority of the 80-person team responsible for the FuelBand fitness tracker. Instead, the company will focus its efforts on fitness software, according to an unnamed source that spoke to CNET.
As the competition in the fitness wearable category has increased with entries from Jawbone and Fitbit, Nike has opted to shift its focus to software. Company spokesman Brian Strong told CNET in an email that Nike continually aligns its resources with business priorities and that it has made changes to its team as its Digital Sport priorities have shifted. Nike is also opening an incubator called Fuel Lab in San Francisco to allow developers to create products that incorporate its workout metric NikeFuel and plug into a Nike+ API that'll come this fall.
Nike's move away from wearables also comes as Apple's long-rumored iWatch is expected to come to fruition. Apple CEO Tim Cook is an avid wearer of the FuelBand and has sat on the Nike board for the last nine years, which has helped the two brands foster a strong relationship.
A possible partnership between Apple and Nike wouldn't be out of the question as the athletic company was one of the first to show support for the iPhone 5s' motion coprocessor, debuting the Nike+ Move app alongside the iPhone 5s at Apple's media event. Apple also helped Nike enter the wearable market in 2006 with the Nike+iPod shoe package.
Apple has also hired former members of the Nike's Digital Sport team, picking up former FuelBand consultant Jay Blahnik last August and Nike design director Ben Shaffer last September.
Apple is expected to release the iWatch later this year alongside iOS 8 and the iPhone 6.
Update 9:54 PM: Nike has issued a statement to Re/code indicating that it plans to continue selling and supporting the current Nike FuelBand and that it plans a "small number" of layoffs, but the company did not directly address whether development of any new hardware will continue.

“The Nike+ FuelBand SE remains an important part of our business,” the company said in a statement emailed to Re/code. “We will continue to improve the Nike+ FuelBand App, launch new METALUXE colors, and we will sell and support the Nike+ FuelBand SE for the foreseeable future.”Sources have told Re/code that Nike has been debating for months what to do with the FuelBand line in the face of issues with financial performance and attracting engineers to work on the project.
The language does seem to leave a lot of room, however, for the possibility that the Portland athletic apparel giant won’t produce future products in the FuelBand line. One source with knowledge of the situation said that it could be that Nike wants to be able to run down its inventory of devices, or that it still has not completely decided to shutter the unit.
