Cyberpocalypse: the cyberpunk Lego city

In 2013, a group of Lego masters unveiled Cyberpocalypse, a spectacularly detailed, moody, neon-lit cyberpunk city. It's a triumph of EL wire and science fiction aesthetics, a kind of bricky Burning Man theme-camp in miniature.

Stunning Light-Painted Landscape Photos by Barry Underwood
Artist Barry Underwood uses light painting techniques and other photographic effects to create stunning staged landscape photographs. To create each image, Underwood builds sets and places LED lights and luminescent materials in a process that can take several days. Underwood’s work will be on display at his solo show, “Scenes,” at Sous Les Etoiles Gallery in New York City, May 29th to July 12th, 2014.
I created this series of installations by researching local agricultural, industrial, and recreational land-use. Curiosity about ecological and social history of specific places drives my work. By revealing the beauty and potential of an ordinary landscape an everyday scene is transformed into a memorable, visual experience. Each photograph image is a dialogue – the result of my direct encounter with nature and history. Inspired by land art, landscape photography and painting, as well as cinema, my images are both surreal and familiar. This tension between the familiar and the surreal gives the images a strange power.

What ‘Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi’ Might Have Looked Like If It Was Directed by David Lynch
Christopher LantzTruth be told, I haven't been all that into Star Wars in awhile... but this kind of mashup kind of did it for me.
Samuel C. Spitale (a.k.a. “C-SPIT”) has created a great movie trailer that imagines what George Lucas‘ 1983 epic space opera film, Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, might have looked like if it ended up being directed by David Lynch.
In 1981 George Lucas approached David Lynch to direct the final installment of the STAR WARS trilogy. For years fans of Lynch and Lucas have wondered what that surreal vision would look like. Now we finally know…. in David Lynch’s RETURN OF THE JEDI.

“I am a shark. Isn’t that neat? You couldn’t name something I couldn’t eat.”
A hungry shark dreams big in Animation Domination High-Def‘s (ADHD) new animated spoof of the classic song “Part of Your World” From Disney’s The Little Mermaid. All that the poor shark wants is to have legs so that he can run around eating everything and everyone.
This is a shark. A shark with a dream. Let him tell you about it. In song.
Here is the original music video for comparison:

A Man Plays ‘The Legend of Zelda’ Theme Song on Wine Glasses, Pots, and Beer Bottles
Christopher LantzBecause nostalgia keeps us all in its iron grip.
Dan Newbie has created a new impressive video that shows him playing the classic Legend of Zelda theme song using wine glasses, pots, and beer bottles. Previously, we wrote about Newbie playing the Super Mario Bros, Game Of Thrones theme songs, and “Let It Go” from Disney’s Frozen on various household items.
Expectations vs. Reality for Action Movies
In this video, Las Vegas filmmaker Ryan Higa takes a look at the dissonance between your expectations of scenes from action movies and what the reality turns out to be. We’ve previously written about Ryan and his clever collection of videos.
Here is a behind-the-scenes look at Ryan’s numerous action movie fails:

Daybreaker, Early A.M. Dance Party (Without Alcohol) For Morning People and Late Partiers Alike
Christopher LantzWould love to go to one of these as I am often one of those that like to party until the break of day.
But the appeal of Daybreaker is partying hard without self-destruction.
Daybreaker is a wonderful monthly series of early-morning, alcohol/drug-free dance parties that take place at various locations around New York City and has really hit a groove with “morning people” who want something different to get them going and with those who just haven’t wanted to end the night. Created in 2013 by General Assembly co-founder Matthew Brimer and Super Sprowtz CEO Radha Agrawal, who found themselves at 2 A.M. needing a creative place to put their combined energies to work.
Brimer and Agrawal came up with the idea last fall after the two were out late partying and found themselves eating falafel at 2 in the morning. They started wondering why they had to stay out so late just to dance at a club, and why they felt kind of nasty afterwards (a 2 a.m. falafel can do that).
So they found a venue, hired a DJ, and organized their friends into the first Daybreaker in December. They’ve since done six parties, and the crowd seems ready for more. – Daily News
The parties have been a huge success and now Daybreaker is looking to expand into other cities. Sign up at Daybreaker website for more information and to be notified about future Daybreaker parties. The next one is in June 2014.

A Compilation of Weird Japanese Commercials, Part Four
Distractify has created a fourth compilation of very weird Japanese commercials. It features an anthropomorphic pug strutting around town while using his cell phone, a strange Star Wars-themed advertisement for canned sea chicken, and more. We previously wrote about Distractify’s ongoing series of extremely strange Japanese commercials.
Watch Darren Aronofsky’s The Story of Creation From ‘Noah’
Christopher LantzI've always enjoyed the seven days of the biblical creation as an allegory for the formation of the cosmos. I'm very impressed to see that concept visualized in this sequence from Aronofsky's Noah.
My favorite sequence from Noah is Darren Aronofsky‘s adaptation of the story of creation from the book of Genesis. In my review for the film, I said:
One of my favorite parts of the film is Aronofsky’s beautiful retelling of the beginning of Genesis, which will please pro-science and will likely piss off creationists. Its this kind of passionate visual storytelling that mixes bible verse with science fact to present one of the most well-known stories in existence in a completely new light. For me, the beauty contained in the construction of this segment is worth the ticket price alone.
Now you don’t need to go to the movie theater to see this incredible sequence, as Protozoa Pictures has made it available online for free. But if you like this three and a half minute clip, do your self a favor and go see the film. Watch Darren Aronofsky’s the story of creation embedded after the jump.
The following sequence happens on the Ark, after the flood has overtaken the earth. Noah takes the moment to retell a story to his family — the first story ever told: the story of creation. You might recognize the story from the beginning of the book of Genesis, but Darren Aronofsky’s adaptation supplements the words with beautiful visuals from the scientific world. Even if you don’t believe in the bible or a higher power like God, you can appreciate the merging of science theory and religious theology in this hopeful adaptation:
Darren Aronofsky’s The Story of Creation From Noah
Noah official synopsis:
Noah is a close adaptation of the Biblical story of Noah’s Ark. In a world ravaged by human sin, Noah is given a divine mission: to build an Ark to save creation from the coming flood. The screenplay was written by Aronofsky and Ari Handel and revised by Academy Award®-nominated screenwriter John Logan (GLADIATOR, HUGO). The film is inspired by the story of Noah. While artistic license has been taken, we believe that this film is true to the essence, values and integrity of a story that is a cornerstone of faith for millions of people worldwide. The biblical story of Noah can be found in the book of Genesis.
