‘Interstellar’ Teaser Poster; Plus New Trailer Description
Christopher Lantz*sniff* McConaughey really gets me for some reason.
A second trailer for Christopher Nolan‘s Interstellar hits theaters next week, and now the first official poster has been released. Check out the Interstellar teaser poster below, and read a brief description of the new trailer.
Here’s the first poster for Interstellar. Click to see it in high res.
You’ve gotta love the color scheme here as well as the simple, eye-catching design. Everything you need to know about the movie – which isn’t much – is right there. It’s about space. It’s about humans stretching their reach. The cast is amazing, it’s in IMAX and it’s from Christopher Nolan. Plus, if you look closer you can see what seems to be a father and daughter, or maybe a man and wife in the rural setting.
Plus, that tag line just resonates: “Mankind was born on Earth. It was never meant to die here.” It’s a very striking poster.
The poster was released in advance of the first full trailer for the November release. That’ll hits theaters May 16 with Godzilla and The Washington Post got an early look:
The trailer unspooled to show Matthew McConaughey driving his truck through corn fields while a lush orchestral score swelled in the background. Later, the fields had caught fire, an ominous dust cloud could be seen looming over a baseball game, and McConaughey (playing a character named Cooper) was reassuring his daughter that he loved her — right before being shot into space in order to save the world.
It sounds like, even in the new trailer, we won’t see Nolan’s vision of space. Not that we need to. So far, you can tell Nolan and his team are being very careful marketing this film. And they can afford to be. They have the reigning Best Actor winner, an insane supporting cast (including, but not limited to, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Ellen Burstyn and Michael Caine) and one of the most popular and marketable filmmakers in the world. Just give us a glimpse and we’ll line up around the block.
What do you think of the Interstellar teaser poster?

Illustris, An Incredibly Detailed and Realistic Simulation of the Universe
The Illustris project is an incredibly detailed and realistic cosmological simulation of the formation of galaxies in our Universe by a talented group of researchers and scientists. Essentially, it’s a computer model designed to build virtual universes based on what we know about such things, and the ones that the project constructed follow the rules as they are currently understood remarkably well. There are still some anomalies in the simulations, however, such as low-mass galaxies building up too soon.
According to Mark Vogelsberger, a physicist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and one of the people behind the simulation, a current top-of-the-line PC would take nearly 2,000 years to process the necessary data, and the 8,000 processors that the simulation used took several months to do so.
Images and videos of the simulations are available on the Illustris website.
The calculation tracks the expansion of the universe, the gravitational pull of matter onto itself, the motion of cosmic gas, as well as the formation of stars and black holes. These physical components and processes are all modeled starting from initial conditions resembling the very young universe 300,000 years after the Big Bang and until the present day, spanning over 13.8 billion years of cosmic evolution. The simulated volume contains tens of thousands of galaxies captured in high-detail, covering a wide range of masses, rates of star formation, shapes, sizes, and with properties that agree well with the galaxy population observed in the real universe.

Honest Video Game Trailers – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim by Screen Junkies and Smosh
Christopher LantzYup.
Screen Junkies and Smosh joined forces to create an honest video game trailer for Bethesda Game Studios‘ popular action role-playing video game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. We previously wrote about their honest video game trailer for Mario Kart and Grand Theft Auto V.
From the developers of everything Elder Scrolls comes a game so immersive you’ll forget to eat, sleep, or make any friends at all. You’ll spend countless hours trapped in a far off land; and when you finally emerge from the game, you’ll only find disappointment and boredom back in the real world.

Supercut of 1990s Alternative Rock Vocal Hooks
Christopher LantzIt was def a time for "aaaaaaaahoooooooooooooooo"!
Vancouver-based comedian Dave Shumka compiled a supercut of some of the best non-lyrical vocal hooks from 1990s alternative rock hits for CBC Music. The video includes pop scatting from artists like Beck, Pavement, The Breeders and Blur.
The 1990s were the glory days of alternative rock. Artists had a lot to say, though, come to think of it, they didn’t always say it with words.

‘Verbatim’, A Dramatization of a Legal Deposition Featuring a Lawyer Arguing About the Definition of a Photocopier
Christopher LantzI found this short to be obscenely funny but only in that "Rome is burning" sense of absurdity.
The New York Times has posted the short film “Verbatim”, a dramatization of a legal deposition wherein a lawyer argues about what does does not constitute a “photocopier,” and whether that question is even fair to ask. The dialogue comes from an actual deposition from 2010 given prior to an Ohio Supreme Court trial about the legality of charging $2 a page for photocopied records. Though the actors are presenting their own take and expressions, the actual words are taken verbatim from the transcript.
The short film, produced and directed by Brett Weiner, first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and marks the first in a series of similar videos from The New York Times.

Edible cookbook embossed upon lasagne noodles

Korefe presents "The Real Cookbook," a book whose leaves are large lasagne noodles, impressed with a recipe for lasagne. As you read the recipe, you peel off each page and slather it with sauce and cheese, building up the dish described in its pages, leaving behind no trace save for your satisfied appetite and a slight propensity to insulin resistance.
