Daughter Posts Video Catching an Incredible Moment Between Non-Verbal Father with Alzheimer’s and Loving Dog

by Lori Dorn

In this video posted by Lisa Abeyta, an absolutely incredible moment was caught when Lisa’s father, largely non-verbal due to the ravages of Alzheimer’s disease, began speaking clear complete sentences to the family dog, Roscoe.

Yesterday afternoon, I had the privilege of spending a little bit of time with my dad who is in the advanced stages of Alzheimers…My parents have two dogs in their home, one of which, Molly, is my father’s constant companion. More than once, I’ve watched him coo and talk to Molly even as his ability to form sentences and find the words he needs to communicate has deteriorated. When my father and I arrived at my home yesterday to give my mom an hour to run some errands, our own family dog, Roscoe, greeted him at the door. For the next hour, my father petted and talked to Roscoe. Not wanting to lose the memory of the moment, I filmed a few moments of his interaction with our dog, amazed at the clarity of my father’s words.

Simply beautiful.

Judgmental Maps

by Xeni Jardin

tumblr_n1vpxt8MM81s4df8ko1_1280

judgmentalmaps.com. Here's a judgementally annotated map of San Francisco. It must be said, some of these maps, and some of the items on certain maps, reflect attitudes towards other human beings that I do not share. But others, I found funny and true. Hobo blow jobs. I laughed at Los Angeles.

Bulbing, una lámpara en 3D con estilo

by La Gusa

Straight White Male: The Lowest Difficulty Setting There Is

by John Scalzi (a straight white male)

I’ve been thinking of a way to explain to straight white men how life works for them, without invoking the dreaded word “privilege.”

When confronted with “privilege,” they fiddle with the word itself, and haul out the dictionaries and find every possible way to talk about the word but not any of the things the word signifies.

So, the challenge: how to get across the ideas bound up in the word “privilege,” in a way that your average straight white man will get, without freaking out about it?

Imagine life here in the US — or indeed, pretty much anywhere in the Western world — is a massive role playing game, like World of Warcraft except appallingly mundane.

Let’s call it The Real World.

You have installed The Real World on your computer and are about to start playing, but first you go to the settings tab to bind your keys, fiddle with your defaults, and choose the difficulty setting for the game. Got it?

Okay: In the role playing game known as The Real World, “Straight White Male” is the lowest difficulty setting there is.

This means that the default behaviors for almost all the non-player characters in the game are easier on you than they would be otherwise. The default barriers for completions of quests are lower. Your leveling-up thresholds come more quickly. You automatically gain entry to some parts of the map that others have to work for. The game is easier to play, automatically, and when you need help, by default it’s easier to get.

Strong 75 MPH Winds Blow a Standing Porta Potty Down the Street in Lehi, Utah

by Justin Page

Author and blogger Dan Pearce of Single Dad Laughing captured crazy footage of strong 75 MPH winds blowing a standing porta potty down the street in Lehi, Utah.

This porta-John stood tall but didn’t stand still. I hope nobody was inside! Eh. Who am I kidding. I kind of hope someone was.

Russian Subaru Ad Expertly Veers From Shocking and Sad to Hilarious

by Gabriel Beltrone

If you've been paying attention to Subaru's ads lately, you know that dogs love driving the brand's cars. But you probably don't know how far they'll go to do so.

This new dash-cam spot from Russia (where dash-cams are reportedly very much worth having) offers a window into canine depravity. The video is hilarious, in the same charmingly dumb way as other recent Subaru spots, but gets bonus points for offering a somewhat less wholesome portrayal than the brand's average American dog family, the Barkleys (though they did have an unhealthy affinity for chugging gas-station toilet water).

And while it won't get your heartrate up quite like Japanese tire brand Autoway's nighttime dash-cam spot from last year, it's got the distinct advantage of being way more adorable.
