Ainda me lembro quem me ensinou que eu não poderia confiar em outras mulheres. Ele me disse, cochichando no ouvido, que mulher é tudo falsa. Que minhas amigas eram invejosas, interesseiras, que a qualquer momento iriam me trair.

Ele me ensinou que outras mulheres deveriam ser vistas sempre como uma ameaça. Que elas iriam roubar meu namorado. Que iriam chamar mais atenção do que eu. Então ele me deu um tapinha de aprovação quando eu chamei aquela garota de vagabunda. “Boa menina”, ele disse.

Ele me ensinou que todas as merdas que eu passava por ser mulher eram culpa dessas mulheres que não se dão valor. Que por culpa delas, as mulheres – inclusive eu, tão boa e comportada – seriam para sempre vistas como objetos sexuais.

Ele sorriu pra mim quando eu me impedi de ter amigas, por achar que não seriam verdadeiras comigo. Ele sorriu pra mim quando eu disse que não gostava de conversa de mulher porque eram todas fúteis. Ele quase gozou de felicidade quando odiei aquela garota sem motivo algum.

Ele, o patriarcado, me ensinou tudo isso, e eu aprendi bem.

Então algo aconteceu. E o patriarcado arrancou os cabelos de desespero quando eu percebi que eu não precisava sentir raiva de outras mulheres. Ele esperneou quando eu parei de tratar outras mulheres como minhas inimigas. Ele gritou de ódio e até babou, porque se eu parasse de brigar com as outras mulheres, ia poder lutar CONTRA ELE.

O patriarcado é um velho autoritário que não gosta de mulheres. Quer dizer, até gosta, porque o patriarcado faz questão de ser macho e extremamente hétero. Mas só gosta de mulher em posições que ele consegue dominar facilmente: cuidando da casa, dos filhos, em empregos mal remunerados, em papéis sexualizados e estereotipados na televisão, fora da política.

O patriarcado, como o bom exemplo de velho amargurado que é, só pensa em sabotar as mulheres, deixá-las sempre na pior. Sua existência gira em torno desse único e mesquinho propósito de vida. Fazer mulheres acreditarem que são todas inimigas é uma de suas táticas. Fazer elas se sentirem sempre insatisfeitas com seus corpos é outra. Mas ele tem outros mil e um truques na manga para garantir que mulheres continuem sendo desprezadas.

O patriarcado até se acha poderoso e inabalável, mas se uma mulher começa a questioná-lo, ele só falta mijar nas calças. Ele se treme todo. Por isso, ele precisa de pessoas que o defendam, porque nem isso ele é capaz de fazer sozinho. Se alguma mulher ousa levantar a voz para questioná-lo, logo aparece um de seus defensores para dizer que ela devia estar lavando a louça em vez de estar falando qualquer coisa.

O patriarcado é um velho parasita que grudou no nosso mundo e se alimenta da tragédia das mulheres. Ele se alimenta de canudinho de cada agressão, de cada mulher sofrendo calada, de cada mulher que morre pelas mãos do ex, de cada lei que tenta negar às mulheres autonomia e o direito ao próprio corpo. Ele lambe os beiços. Tente tirar isso dele e você vai ver como o velhote fica furioso. Porque se o patriarcado não puder nos explorar, ele definha. Seca até os ossos.

O patriarcado é um velho que só tem uma coisa maior do que seu ódio às mulheres: medo de acabar. Mas ele vai. Ele já começou a acabar. E acaba um pouquinho mais toda vez que uma mulher percebe que suas “inimigas” não existem. Que é só uma cortina de fumaça.

É aí que o patriarcado começa a se quebrar, pedacinho por pedacinho: quando mandamos um recado para as nossas “inimigas” e não é ódio; mas um “estamos juntas”. Porque só juntas podemos combatê-lo. Só juntas sobreviveremos.

A fórmula é simples: um jovem fã de Harry Potter devidamente portando sua vassoura, muito tempo vago, a câmera do pai, habilidades básicas em edição de vídeo e principalmente, o fundamental, aquela vontade desenfreada de voar.

This week on Stiq Figures, we're licking our chops while ogling a delicious-looking cake brought to the Internet by Reddit user Wiltylock. The cake is for a 4-year-old's birthday, and was decorated to resemble a level from PopCap's Plants vs Zombies.

Depois de três anos em gestação, finalmente saiu: Pura Picaretagem, da editora LeYa, livro que escrevi em parceria com o físico carioca Daniel Bezerra e que é o tal "guia de defesa pessoal" mencionado aí em cima no título. Ou, mais precisamente, um guia de ceticismo para ajudar as pessoas a enfrentar a verdadeira avalanche de produtos e conselhos "quânticos" picaretas que abundam por aí.

Parte filosofia, parte história e , claro, parte ciência, Pura Picaretagem vai dos primórdios da teoria quântica, nascida na Alemanha do fim do século 19, ao humilhante desaparecimento das pulseiras "quânticas" Power Balance, poucos anos atrás, passando pelo auge da febre místico-quântica dos anos 70 e pelo verdadeiro significado da tal da "lei da atração" que, dizem os desavisados (ou mal intencionados) tem sua base no mundo quântico.

Gurus indianos e produtos sensacionalistas de mídia também recebem doses módicas de atenção, antes de serem devidamente despachados.

Fato impressionante: durante as pesquisas para o livro, descobri que, já nos anos 20 do século passado, alguns cientistas previam que as descobertas da física quântica acabariam sendo açambarcadas por místicos e embusteiros: um artigo publicado por um então futuro ganhador do Nobel na revista Harper's fazia o alerta!

Além de toda essa trajetória histórico-filosófica, também apresentamos o que a teoria quântica de fato é, o que há de realmente chocante e contraintuitivo nela e de que modo os cientistas sérios encaram fenômenos bizarros como o emaranhamento quântico e a dualidade onda-partícula.

A ideia para o livro nasceu quando eu ainda estava no Estadão. Depois que publiquei esta postagem no blog que mantinha por lá, o Daniel, que eu já conhecia virtualmente -- ele é o blogueiro do Telhado de Vidro, espaço que todo mundo que gosta deste aqui deveria visitar --, apareceu com a ideia de fazermos um livro apontando onde e como a versão "pop" da mecânica quântica tinha dado estupidamente errado. Quando perdi o emprego, o tempo para pesquisar e escrever, subitamente, dilatou-se. E, graças à inestimável ajuda do amigo e crítico literário Rodrigo Gurgel, nossos capítulos de teste chegaram à LeYa e agora, graças à LeYa, o livro chega às livrarias, já em pré-venda.

Escrever em dupla, ainda mais com um autor em cada extremidade da Via Dutra, é algo que provavelmente só deu certo graças à internet e, claro, à infinita boa disposição do meu colega de autoria. Durante meses fizemos videoconferências semanais, e os esboços dos capítulos iam e vinham pelo Google Docs, anotados por conta disso ou daquilo. Nesse meio tempo, vi publicado, pela Vieira & Lent, O Livro dos Milagres, minha primeira obra de não-ficção a sair, mas na verdade a segunda a ser concebida.

E agora cá estou, de repente autor de duas obras céticas de divulgação científica (ou de uma e meia, já que o Picaretagem é uma coautoria). Tenho planos para mais umas duas ou três: vamos ver se algo disso chega a se completar. As estantes lá de casa estão cheias de obras de referência prenhes de novos livros, que só precisam de alguma disciplina de minha parte para nascer.

O lançamento de Pura Picaretagem será no Rio de Janeiro, terra do Daniel. Dia 20 de junho, na Livraria da Travessa do Shopping Leblon,  a partir das 19h. Talvez também façamos uma em São Paulo, mas não está certo ainda -- diz a sabedora convencional que 90% das pessoas que aparecem em lançamentos são amigos do autor, e sei que a maioria dos meus amigos paulistanos não gosta lá muito de sair de casa.

No, it isn’t, it is a flag. A flag is not racist. A person is rasict. A statement can be considered racist. Now if the flag were branded with racial slurs or other means of hatred, I could understand, however, it does not.

the confederate flag is racist because it was the flag used by the confederate armies who were doing what? oh yeah fighting for their right to enslave, torture, and murder people based on their race!

i bet you’d agree that a flag with a swastika on it was racist. this is the same situation.

Okay, so this flag was the flag that represented the Confederate States of America- I believe they first started using it in 1863 or 1864- either way it was introduced during the Civil War. So it doesn’t quite represent Southern “states”- it represented the states that succeeded from the United States. So technically it’s not a symbol of the Southern states, it’s a symbol of succession and the nation they claimed to have formed. A lot of people used it as an alternate to the the American flag. 

BUT- and here’s why in my opinion this flag has become a symbol of hate- it didn’t gain popularity or much recognition until the mid 20th century particularly during WWII and in the time following it. During the Civil Right’s movement, Southern’s who were opposed to desegregation began displaying it to represent their opposition to federal laws (ie their resistance to the North). And then of course the KKK and other hate groups have embraced the flag as well (for the very reason listed above).

There were southern blacks that willing fought for this flag, and there’s pictures to prove it.

Being forced to fight doesn’t count.

What sense does it make to give a man a gun that doesn’t want to fight? He could just shot you and leave. A lot that fought, fought willingly.

Still waiting on that proof, sis. And even If i did believe that there were Black folk fighting by choice to stay slaves, I highly doubt that white folks were delusional or comfortable enough to arm them. Also even if you could back this bullshit up, comparing the amount of Black people fighting against these confederate assholes to the amount who (allegedly) chose to fight for the confederacy would blow your argument away.

Now, before you get excited, keep in mind that Stauffer points out that many of these black soldiers were not accepted by the Confederate government and were not issued firearms: still more of these soldiers were coerced into joining the military, and others joined to escape miserable poverty. Professor Carol Sheriff of the College of William and Mary reinforces the notion that any blacks who fought did so somewhat involuntarily, by clarifying that some black body-servants may have taken up arms in the heat of battle to defend their masters and themselves, and even then they were sometimes forced to do so. (Article HERE.) She also makes the point that arming blacks or allowing them to fight in the military was illegal in the Confederacy. This makes it extremely difficult to claim that the Confederates used black troops, because refusing to allow them to fight and forcing them to join in the first place quashes the notion that they were soldiers. In any case, they were present in such minuscule numbers that it’s difficult to validate their presence – these “soldiers” only represented about one half of one percent of the Confederate military strength.

And it gets better!

The greatest single example of black Confederate soldiers – the Louisiana Native Guards, composed of black and mixed-race men from the New Orleans area – was not accepted by the Confederate military despite their wish to fight for the south when the war broke out (Article HERE.) As a result, when the Union took New Orleans in spring of 1862, the Louisiana Native Guards joined the Union when General Butler called for reinforcements. On a side note, over 4,000 black and mixed-race men joined the Union army in New Orleans that spring, which outnumbers those that may have joined the Confederacy over the course of the entire war.

And finally, an article from Harvard professor John Stauffer giving details on why you, & all other neo-confederates are completely full of shit.

It is well known that in Louisiana and Tennessee, Stauffer added, Confederate units were organized by elite, light-skinned freedmen who identified with the slave-owning white plantation culture. (The Tennessee troops were never issued arms, though, and the black unit known as the Louisiana Native Guards never saw action — and quickly switched sides as soon as Union forces appeared.)

But unless readers think that black Confederates were truly enamored of the South’s cause, Stauffer related the case of John Parker, a slave forced to build Confederate barricades and later to join the crew of a cannon firing grapeshot at Union troops at the First Battle of Bull Run. All the while, recalled Parker, he worried about dying, prayed for a Union victory, and dreamed of escaping to the other side.

“His case can be seen as representative,” said Stauffer. “Masters put guns to (the heads of slaves) to make them shoot Yankees.”

I hope you learned a lesson in all this. That lesson is to shut the fuck up when grown folks is talking & maybe try to learn something yourself. The confederate flag is indisputably racist, & denying its history isn’t going to make that fact go away.

A beautiful history lesson. Waving that flag is such a passive aggressive way to show how racist you are. Then they like to pretend that it’s “harmless,” which is offensive in and of itself because if millions of people feel threatened by it…it’s not fucking harmless.
