Hear Weird Al’s New Polka Medley Covering Miley Cyrus, Daft Punk & more

by Daniel Koren

The ultimate staple of every record in Weird Al‘s discography has to be the polka medley. While the rest of the tracks are parodies, the polka is the only time where he actually takes the lyrics from the originals, reintroducing them for the contemporary polka audience. In his latest, “NOW That’s What I Call Polka!” from his freshly released Mandatory Fun, he covers several pop smashes we’ve all heard, or overheard.

Miley Cyrus – “Wrecking Ball”
Foster The People – “Pumped Up Kicks”
One Direction – “The Best Song Ever”
Psy – “Gangnam Style”
Carly Rae Jepsen – “Call Me Maybe”
will.i.am – “Scream & Shout” (Feat. Britney Spears)
Gotye – “Somebody That I Used To Know” (Feat. Kimbra)
Pitbull – “Timber” (Feat. Ke$ha)
LMFAO – “Sexy And I Know It”
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis – “Thrift Shop” (Feat. Wanz)
Daft Punk – “Get Lucky”

You’ll notice that some of these are dated, but it doesn’t seem like the singer/parodist is too tech-savvy. I mean, he doesn’t even have a SoundCloud page. Check out “NOW That’s What I Call Polka!” below:

Tommy Wiseau Is Back With A Thing That He Is Calling A Sitcom

by Wookie Johnson

Despite the fact that it’s been six years in the making and hasn’t been picked up by anyone, Tommy Wiseau’s The Neighbors is still promised to be coming soon. Much like diarrhea, we don’t know where and we don’t know when.

The director-writer-producer-actor has surrounded himself with young people once again for the porn-grade “sitcom,” and debuted this “INFO #1″ video to answer any questions you may have. But not really. This only serves to confuse and I think it’s also trying to sell me underwear. If your curiosity is piqued, Wiseau provides this synopsis:

SYNOPSIS OF “THE NEIGHBORS”
“THE NEIGHBORS” IS A SITCOM ABOUT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN A GROUP OF NEIGHBORS WHO LIVE IN AN APARTMENT BUILDING. THE LEAD CHARACTER IS CHARLIE, THE MANAGER OF THE BUILDING. THE TENANTS ARE A DIVERSE GROUP OF PERSONALITIES; ALL OF DIFFERENT AGES AND BACKGROUNDS, CONSTANTLY BRINGING THEIR PROBLEMS TO CHARLIE AND HIS SECRETARY/GIRLFRIEND BEBE. THE CHARACTER OF PRINCESS PENELOPE CREATES A COMMOTION AFTER SHE WITNESSES THE GHOST OF HER UNCLE PRINCE CHARLES. IT IS A FRESH AND HUMOROUS LOOK AT HUMAN BEHAVIOR THROUGH DIFFERENT POINTS OF VIEW. THIS COCKTAIL OF CHARACTERS ALWAYS GUARANTEE PLENTY OF SURPRISES. THE DEMOGRAPHIC IS ALL INCLUSIVE.

PLOT:

IN THE PILOT, MARIANA IS OBSESSED ABOUT BUGS IN HER APARTMENT. MONICA CATCHES HER BOYFRIEND DEN IN BED WITH PATRICK. PRINCESS PENELOPE ARRIVES AND DARREN SERENADES HER WITH ACCOMPANIMENT FROM OTHER TENANTS. RICHARD BECOMES PRINCESS PENELOPE’S BUTLER AND HANDYMAN. ED PREPARES A BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR BEBE.

Also, of note, the amazing new website that Wiseau has created for the show. Like Wiseau’s films, there’s not much there yet there’s so much there. (AV Club)

I Wish I Was Batman but I Suck at Fighting T-Shirt

The Infinite Man Is A Skillfully Amusing Time-Travel Romance

by ProjectCyclops
Corey

I love movies like this.

The Infinite Man is an unusual comedy, which follows the complicated mishaps which occur when the jilted and love-struck scientist, Dean (Josh McConville), invents a time machine and travels back to the day he broke up with his girlfriend, Lana (Hannah Marshall). How many paradoxes can love withstand?

The Strain Comics Are So Close to the Show That It's Eerie

The Strain Comics Are So Close to the Show That It's Eerie

If you read the comic book version of Guillermo del Toro's The Strain after you watched the TV series, which premieres this Sunday night, they look so similar you'd be forgiven for thinking the comics merely adapted the show. Except the comics came out in 2011, more than a year before the TV series was finally approved

Times Square Officials Calling For A Real Life Superhero Registration Act

by Zeon Santos
Corey

Finally. These people are a menace!

(Image Via Gawker)

In a recent example of real life playing out like the plot of a comic book, officials in New York are about to make the Superhero Registration Act a real life thing…for Times Square characters.

(Image Via In Other News)

After years of reported problems with the superhero clad busker types who hang around Times Square posing for money, culminating in the recent arrest of "Spider-Man" for allegedly groping a tourist, heads of the Times Square Alliance are proposing a law requiring all street performers, especially wanna-be superheroes, to be licensed and regulated by the New York state government.

So it’s kinda like the comics, only the superheroes in this instance don’t have any powers, and this most certainly won’t lead to a Marvel Universe divided via the Civil War, although there may be a new batch of outlaw superheroes wandering the sidewalks of Times Square in the near future...

Do You Have What It Takes To Find This Hidden Swimming Pool in the Middle of a Desert?

by Alex Santoso

Social Pool (2014) by Alfredo Barsuglia

It's nice to take a dip in the cold crisp water of a swimming pool when it's hot outside, so it's doubly nice to go swimming when you're in the middle of a desert. The trick is, you've got to find the hidden pool.

Austrian artist Alfredo Barsuglia constructed Social Pool, an eleven-by-five feet wide swimming pool in the Mojave desert in southern California, open to anybody to use provided that they can find it. The pool's location is guarded by secret GPS coordinate, and is locked when not in use (you can ask for the key as well as the GPS coordinate at the MAK Center for Art and Architecture in Los Angeles).

The Social Pool is covered and locked when not in use.

"It's really hard to find," Barsuglia said to LA Times, "There is no road. There is no fence. There is no sign. There is no trail. You just come on it. I'm sure some people won't find it."

Barsuglia created the Social Pool as an art installation about "the effort of people make to reach a luxury good." Swimming pools, said Barsuglia, is often a hallmark of wealth. "I'm interested in the way that these are often integrated into the architecture of a house. And, often, people will have a pool, but they don't even get into it. They just like to show that they have it. It shows they don't have to think about water."

Who'd make the trek into the Mojave desert just to find such a thing? Juliet Bennett Rylah of LAist made the journey and wrote about it:

There is something distinctly and uniquely pleasant about this pool. Maybe it's that you're entirely alone with just a couple close friends. There's no one to hear you and nothing to overhear. Maybe it's that there's an element of danger. You passed some abandoned trailers on your way—who's to say you won't run into Walter White or the villains of The Hills Have Eyes? What about snakes and scorpions? Or maybe it's the supposed lawlessness. You're not supposed to drink on Venice Beach or run around naked, but nobody really seemed to be policing Social Pool.

The key to the Social Pool

Rylah noted that it took two and a half hours to drive from the museum to the pool, and that she had to travel through a lot of open desert and unpaved road to reach the Social Pool.

Do you have what it takes to find this hidden pool in the middle of the desert?

The Carpool DeVille Is a Fully Functional Car and Hot Tub

by John Farrier

When they were engineering students at McMaster University in Ontario, Phil Weicker and Duncan Forster built a hot tub inside a 1969 Cadillac DeVille. It remains a fully functional car, with the original engine in the front. The water circulation system in the trunk processes 5,000 pounds of water and keeps it at a comfortable 102°F.

Weicker and Forster want to take the Carpool DeVille to the Bonneville Speedway. This area in the Bonneville Salt Flats of Utah is ideal for land speed racing. If Weicker and Forster are successful, they will drive the Carpool DeVille on the speedway, making it the fastest hot tub in the world.

They recently conducted a Kickstarter funding project to acquire what they need to transport the car to Utah and equip the car with the safety gear necessary to drive at Bonneville. Over the weekend, they passed their $10,000 goal.

Newswire: AMC orders martial arts drama Badlands to series

by Sonia Saraiya

AMC has ordered six, one-hour episodes of Badlands, a martial arts drama that is not related to Bruce Springsteen’s greatest song. According to the studio’s press release, Badlands is “very loosely” based on Journey To The West, a Chinese story that is one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature. A warrior and a boy journey west, across a land controlled by unsympathetic nobles, to seek enlightenment.

The idea was developed by Al Gough and Miles Millar, who worked together on Smallville and Shanghai Noon (and are, incidentally, also working on the upcoming Shannara for MTV, which was also announced today). Martial arts choreographers Daniel Wu and Stephen Fung are also attached to the project.

The network is ordering Badlands straight to series, without seeing a pilot. Badlands will air late 2015 or early 2016. As there are no photos for something that does not exist ...

Well check this out if you never want to sleep again.

It seems like only yesterday that the South African rave-rap trio Die Antwoord broke the music-blogging public’s brains with that Zef Side video, though in fact it’s been four years, and Ninja, Yo-Landi, and DJ Hi-Tek are gearing up for the release of their third record, Donker Mag. They’ve already released lead single “Cookie Thumper!” and now they’re ready for round two, in the form of “Pitbull Terrier,” and its accompanying video, starring Ninja as, literally, a dog. What with lots of blood, spit, and humping, it’s, as usual, not for the faint of heart. Check it out – and peruse the tracklist, packed with amazing titles, for Donker Mag; it’s out June 3rd.

Newswire: Pornhub asks users to stop posting videos of Germany fucking Brazil

by Sean O'Neal

Appropriately enough for nasty things happening around a cup, Germany’s crushing, 7-1 defeat of Brazil quickly made its way to Pornhub, prompting the adult site to beg for less for the first time in porn history. Highlight clips from yesterday’s World Cup match—most of them involving Germany’s Die Mannschaft going balls-deep on Brazil’s waiting goals an impressive three times in 76 seconds—quickly began popping up on Pornhub, under titles like “Young Brazilians get fucked by entire German soccer team.”

Unfortunately, that gag soon got in the way of the site’s preferred type of gags, prompting its spokesperson, Pornhub Katie (Oh, of the Connecticut Pornhubs?), to plead for decency from users of its masturbation movies.

Please stop uploading the game highlights to Pornhub... Our public humiliation category is full. #BrazilvsGermany
