Either all of these people are quite small or that’s one of the biggest dump trucks in the world. File under: this exists, this is the Liebherr T-284 Ultra Class Mining Truck, 261 tons of off-highway vehicle that’s the size of a house. This video was filmed at the 2012 Minexpo in Las Vegas.

Mo' Pencils, Mo' Problems
Whether you're an ID student working wood or an architecture student making foamcore models, you need a pencil to mark dimensions on the material prior to cutting it. And you quickly learn that on high-tolerance projects, a regular and unsharpened pencil can have you off by as much as 1/16th, or worse if you're a sloppy cutter; the things need to be kept sharp.
So next you figure mechanical pencils are the way to go for accuracy. But mechanical pencil leads always seem to break off when they're jostling around in your ArtBin or toolbox, and those little plastic tubes that hold the replacement leads like to disappear when you're pulling an all-nighter. Plus a mechanical pencil lead has the same problem as conventional pencils—they're worthless for marking on black foamcore or darker woods like walnut.
One potential solution is the Accutrax Pencil Blade, a piece of graphite shaped like a utility knife blade.

Google Calendar bug could bring uninvited guests to your events
Put an email addresses in an event title? They'll be automatically invited
A minor bug potentially embarrassing bug in Google Calendar could lead to private events being revealed to third parties. Researcher Terence Eden discovered discovered that placing a Gmail address in an event title leads to that person being automatically invited to the event, regardless of the context. It's not hard to imagine how this might lead to a few red faces through supposedly private info being released to third parties. Eden uses his wife as an example —

This 16th Century Book Can Be Read Six Different Ways
Sure, the Amazon Kindle might have dynamic font adjustments, and it can hold thousands of books, but can it do this? Printed in the late 16th century this small book from the National Library of Sweden is an example of sixfold dos-à-dos binding, where six books are conjoined into a single publication but can be read individually with the help of six perfectly placed clasps. This particular book was printed in Germany and like almost all books at the time is a religious devotional text. The National Library of Sweden has a fantastic photo collection of historical and rare books where you can find many more gems like this, and this, and this.
Update: And if you really like amazing old book discoveries, you should be following Erik Kwakkel, the Medieval book historian at Leiden University in the Netherlands, who originally unearthed this story. (via Neatorama)

Loving Vincent: The First Feature-Length Painted Animation Will Explore the Life and Death of Vincent Van Gogh
Currently in production at Oscar-winning studio BreakThru Films, Loving Vincent will be the first feature-length animated film made solely through hand-painted canvases. The movie will examine the life of post-Impressionist painter Vincent Van Gogh and the circumstances surrounding his violent and mysterious death some 123 years ago. Understandably, the production for Loving Vincent is no easy task and requires the help of 70 (!) painters who will help create the numerous hand-painted oil canvases required to bring the story to life. The team is currently appealing to the public on Kickstarter to help raise funds to complete the movie. (via The Awesomer)
