An introspective journey of artistic self discovery, presented as a 6 page comic.
BUTTS.
i work on a college campus. in addition to purdue yesterday there have been 5 school shootings since the start of the year. folks i work with have accepted that a shooting on campus is something to plan for. our campus police will come to any department meeting to provide a lecture on “active shooter strategies”.
i’ve already attended one of these.
when did this become normal?
Cooper GriggsI was expecting more from the video. Maybe it'll be better in the final show.

Like hairy aliens from another planet, these tiny spiders seem to stare with giant, all-knowing eyes into your very soul. Whether they possess otherworldly secrets or a desire to attack your face is open to interpretation. Regardless, photographer Jimmy Kong has done an incredible job capturing these intimate moments with diverse arthropods found in his native Malaysia. What you see here is just a taste of his macro work that also involves insects, reptiles and other creepy crawly things. See more on Flickr. (via the Colossal Flickr Pool)

Created by Tel Aviv-based design firm Peleg Design, the Yolkfish is a clever kitchen tool designed like a fish that slurps up yolks as means to separate them from egg whites. The yolks can then be deposited elsewhere with a gentle squeeze. See it in action in the video. If you liked this also check out their awesome kitchen elephant, Jumbo. (via Designboom)
Cooper Griggs1700+ acres went up in a matter of hours. Things are very very dry in so cal. So much fuel and so little water.
Three suspects are charged for igniting an illegal campfire — the alleged source of the Colby Fire — in the severely dry winter of Southern California near L.A. on Thursday. The blaze has burned 2,000 acres, while firefighters approach today’s full containment. In Glendora and its surrounding area, where homes were lost and smoke plumes filled the skies, photographers captured the impact of the disaster.

Whether you’re bummed because you couldn’t make it to Sundance this year, or exhausted because you’re still there, here’s something that ought to help. Not Another Sundance Movie sums up all the best film festival cliches in a quick three-minute trailer, saving you from having to slog through hours of indies.
Starring such indie favorites as “young ethnic girl that’s guaranteed to be nominated for an Oscar but not win” and a “reinvented” Michael Cera, Not Another Sundance Movie is guaranteed to move you to tears with its gritty-yet-uplifting portrayal of poor folks, crying women, vintage pickup trucks, and clarinets. So many clarinets. Watch it after the jump.
Artist David Mesguich (previously) has been creating large geometric sculptures that he installs in locations around Belgium and France, blurring the lines between street art and fine art. The pieces are displayed in public areas and aren’t made to be sold but are instead donated to the city. Of his most recent work, PRESSURE 1.0, he remarks:
The story of “pressure”—it’s the story of people who are on the fence, in between worlds, those who are both on the inside and on the outside. My inspiration came from two sources: a family history that steeped me in a violent, carceral universe during my youth and more than 10 years of trespassing with graffiti.
Mesguich has several other pieces you can see on Behance and on his website.
Cooper GriggsI didn't even know this artform existed! Neat!

No, these aren’t exactly your childhood goldfish bowls. The world of competitive aquarium design, or aquascaping, is just as difficult, expensive, and cutthroat as any other sport but requires expertise in many different fields to guarantee success. Aquarium designers possess large amounts of expertise in biology, design, photography, and excel in the art of patience, as individual aquascapes can take months if not years to fully mature into a completed landscape.
The world’s largest nature aquarium and aquatic plants layout competition is the International Aquatic Plants Layout Contest (IAPLC) which annually ranks hundreds of competitors from around the world with Asian and Eastern European countries generally dominating the top slots. While it’s somewhat difficult to track down galleries of winners from every year, above are some amazing entries from the last few years. To see more, oh so much more, check out: IAPLC Grand Prize Works, IAPLC 2011 Top 27, IAPLC 2013 Top 6, IAPLC 2012 Top 200 (or here), and the first Eastern European Planted Aquarium Design Contest.
Mario Wienerroither recently stripped all of the music out of the music video for “Firestarter” by The Prodigy. He then dubbed over the music video with all sorts of weird sounds and sporadic vocals from lead singer Keith Flint. Mario created this crazy work of art for “parody purposes.”
Here is the original music video for comparison:
