Garlic Prep, the Goodfellas Way — The Celluloid Pantry
AlecbuggExpert level garlic prep
Every family has its own way of prepping garlic. Some, proud of their knife skills, wouldn't be caught dead with a garlic press; others — the specialists — go for the high-end uni-taskers, swearing by the Zyliss Susi 2. In Goodfellas (1990), mobster Henry Hill (Ray Liotta) recalls his days in stir, where Paulie (Paul Sorvino) developed a method all his own: "He was in a year for contempt and he had this wonderful system for doing the garlic. He used a razor and he used to slice it so thin that it would liquefy in the pan with just a little oil. It was a very good system."
Image of First Simpsons LEGO Set has Emerged
An image of what looks like the very first Simpsons LEGO set has recently been unveiled on the internet. The sneak peak of the set was posted on Eurobricks by a user without any mention of price or release date. LEGO confirmed in August 2013 that they would be releasing a Simpsons series but has yet to make a public comment on the rogue image.

Graphene Is Crazy
It transports electrons 10 times faster than silicon, and may soon be replacing it as the go-to material for transistors and computer parts. …
We're talking about "charging iPhones within five seconds" conductivity here. Imagine a world with electric cars that recharge as quickly as filling your tank with gas, or paper-thin foldable plastic phones that recharge the instant you set them down — that's exactly what graphene offers. And then there's the slight matter of its strength. Mix graphene with metals, and it increases their resilience 500-fold.

Fried Chicken Biscuit at Percy Street Barbecue
AlecbuggWant

Earlier this week we popped in to Percy Street Barbecue for the first time in too long. While we were there stuffing ourselves with ham plates, biscuits and brisket fries when we were told that happy hour was changing the next day. And one of the things that would be on the new $5 happy hour menu, the above chicken biscuit situation. It’s Percy’s buttermilk biscuit, topped with fried chicken thighs, cheddar sauce, hot sauce and pickled apples.
Happy hour is just that at Percy Street. Monday to Friday, from 5 to 6 p.m. And that’s the only time the fried chicken biscuit is available.

This Weekend: Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Party At Victoria Freehouse
AlecbuggI CAN"T BELIEVE I MISSED THIS
Big news for the geeks in the crowd. As I’m sure you are already all aware, the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who is on November 23. And while I can totally understand those of you who want to just climb into your dalek costumes and spend the day at home in front of the TV, for those of a more social bent, there’s this:
On Saturday, November 23, the Victoria Freehouse in Old City will be celebrating the 50th Anniversary (Whoniversary?) in style, with themed food and drinks (jelly babies, jammie dodgers, fish fingers and custard–you know, that sort of thing) and the 50th anniversary episode showing on two separate flatscreens, starting promptly at 2:50pm.
You probably want to get there early to score a good seat. And to get a jump on celebrating the stunning, five-decade run of one of the best science fiction TV shows ever. And if you have one, don’t forget your fez. Because fezzes are cool.

Kraftwork Offering a Filet and Foie Cheesesteak
AlecbuggYummmmmmmmmm
Kraftwork in Fishtown is offering a special Filet & Foie Cheesesteak this week. Chef Brian Lofink is going all up-market on the cheesesteak as he stuffs an almost-foot-long French roll with the filet mignon, foie gras and black truffles.
The cheesesteak is on the dinner menu through Black Friday and features filet tips, roasted balsamic cippolini onions, gruyère cheese and a foie gras sauce.
The cheesesteak sells for $16 or for $28, you can get it topped with black truffle shavings.
Hustle for the truffles, though, they’ll only be available while truffle supplies last.
