Kim Jong-Un Visits Lube Factory, Photoshop Battle Commences

by Zeon Santos

Kim Jong-Un is apparently quite easy to entertain, and he was all smiles and eyes full of wonder when he visited the Chonji Lubricant Factory and got to watch machines squirt out piles of lubricant:

This incredibly meme worthy photo of the delighted Kim Jong-Un spawned a Reddit PsBattle called  Kim Jong-Un at a lube factory, and the Redditor creations were most glorious!

Here are some of the gloriously hilarious creations featuring the most handsome glorious leader:

Hero Teaches Ill-Mannered Brat and His Mother a Delightful Lesson

by John Farrier

(Photo: Foodspotting)

Redditor thr111 performed a great public service while he purchased lunch at a Burger King. Although he has deleted the text, much of it remains at Consumerist. He purchased every apple pie at the restaurant to punish a rude child who wanted one. Harken to his tale of justice:

“When behind me comes this woman yapping on her cellphone with a little monster of a child,” he writes. “This kid was out of control, screaming, punching his mother throwing around a gameboy whenever something didn’t go right in the game.”

He says the mom paid more attention to her phone than to her kid, who was screaming about how much he wanted an apple pie.

The customer says his already bad headache got worse and so he asked the mother nicely to quiet her kid down.

“Immediately she gets up in my face telling me I can’t tell her nothing about raising her child and to mind my own business,” recalls the customer, who says the mom rubbed it in by calling her kid “sweety” and assuring him that he’d get his pie.

By the time the customer got to the front of the line, he says he could only think about how the loudmouthed brat and his mom had spoiled this little trip to BK.

“I then decide to ruin their day,” explains the customer who ordered all 23 pies the store had in stock.

“I take my order and walk towards the exit,” he recounts. “Moments later I hear the woman yelling, ‘What do you mean you don’t have any pies left, who bought them all?’ I turn around and see the cashier pointing me out with the woman shooting me a death glare.”

As the father of two young children, I have great sympathy for the parents of children who misbehave in public. But parents must act to either change the behavior or remove the children. That's the only way you get pie.

Japanese artist Shintaro Ohata (previously) currently has two new sculptural paintings on view at Mizuma Gallery in Singapore. Ohata places vibrantly painted figurative sculptures in the foreground of similarly styled paintings that when viewed directly appear to be a single artwork. In some sense it appears as though the figures have broken free from the canvas. These artworks, along with several of his other paintings, join works by Yoddogawa Technique, Enpei Ito, Osamu Watanabe, and Akira Yoshida, for the Sweet Paradox show that runs through August 10th. Babylon 5 reboot likely to become big-budget film

by Lee Hutchinson
Warner Bros.

According to a report from TV Wise, Babylon 5 showrunner J. Michael Straczynski will shortly begin work on a rebooted big-screen version of his 1990s sci-fi TV series. Straczynski made the announcement at San Diego Comic-Con last week.

Babylon 5’s pilot episode originally aired in 1993, with the series beginning its regular run almost a year later as a foundational component of the now-defunct Prime Time Entertainment Network. The show lacked the production budget of its contemporary rival Star Trek: Deep Space 9 (which allegedly lifted some or all of its core concepts directly from Straczynski’s original—and rejected—Babylon 5 pitch meeting with Paramount). Still, it attracted enough of an audience to accomplish a noteworthy feat: Babylon 5 became the only non-Star Trek science fiction show on American television to reach its series completion without being cancelled. Not until 2004’s Battlestar Galactica reboot would another non-Star Trek show earn the same distinction.

After Babylon 5 ended in 1998, Straczynski (usually referred to simply by his initials, "JMS") tried multiple times to bring a B5 movie to theaters. The most recent attempt in 2004 came the closest, with a completed script and some preproduction work underway, but without financial backing from Warner Bros. the project had to be abandoned.

2014 Emmy Nominations Announced

by Angie Han

HBO's "True Detective" Season 1 / Director: Cary Fukunaga

2013-2014 has been such a strong year in television, you could easily double the number of Emmy nominees in some categories and still wind up snubbing some worthy contenders. But tough choices must be made, and this morning Mindy Kaling and Carson Daly got up early to reveal which Emmy hopefuls made the cut. Get the 2014 Emmy nominations after the jump.

Many of the usual suspects got the nod, of course. There was no way Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul weren’t going to walk away from the final season of Breaking Bad without nominations, for example, though it was disappointing to see Dean Norris get overlooked. Recurring favorites Homeland, Modern Family, and Downton Abbey were all well represented too.

On the flip side, some of the expected snubs came to pass as well. Tatiana Maslany remains totally ignored despite great Orphan Black buzz, and Hannibal got no love for its excellent second season. I was also disappointed, if not especially surprised, to see the late Christopher Evan Welch go without a nomination for his hilarious work on Silicon Valley.

Of the new shows, True Detective fared almost as well as expected (no recognition for Michelle Monaghan) and Orange Is the New Black had a strong showing with five acting nominations and a spot in the Best Comedy Series category. And anyone associated with HBO’s The Normal Heart probably got a little something.
