Indonesian artist Ono Gaf works primarily with metallic junk reclaimed from a trash heap to create his animalistic sculptures. His most recent piece is this giant turtle containing hundreds of individual metal components like car parts, tools, bike parts, instruments, springs, and tractor rotors. You can read a bit more about Gaf over on the Jakarta Post, and see more of this turtle in this set of photos by Gina Sanderson. (via Steampunk Tendencies)

Casey Weldon’s “Novel Relic" at Roq La Rue.
Casey Weldon will have a spectacular set of new paintings on display starting tonight, Thursday August 7th, 2014, at Roq La Rue in Seattle, Washington for his show entitled “Novel Relic.” Working to evoke nostalgia in his viewers, Casey’s work often takes the strange and mixes it with pop culture, resulting in a one of a kind style. These set of paintings see Casey particularly focusing in on technology and nature.

Artist Erdal Enci Clones Himself to Create Elaborate Choreographed GIFs

It’s been over a year since we last checked in with video artist Erdal Inci (previously) who clones multiple recordings of himself moving through public spaces resulting in these bizarre looping performances. Inci often carries lights or other objects which lend a sense of choreography to each video, and at times the exposure eliminates him from the scene or makes him appear shadowlike in the background. Here are a few of our favorites over the last few months but you can see more on his website and at a higher resolution on Vimeo. (via iGNANT)
People Making Music with Broken Plumbing
Here’s two amazing videos of musicians realizing the air pressure from their faulty plumbing makes for a great music. The violinist from the first video us from the Altra Volta Quartet in Poland, and the video of the guitarist appears to be uncredited. Fun New Murals by ROA Utilize Tunisia’s Domed Architecture

Belgian street artist ROA (previously) is currently in Tunisia along with 150 other participating artists for Galerie Itinerrance’s Djerbahood open air museum project in Djerba, Tunisia. The artist cleverly took advantage of the many domed buildings in the city for several of his monochromatic spray paint murals that spread across multiple surfaces. You can see more recent pieces on the Djerbahood website. (via Savage Habit, Street Art News)

Updated Science: The Science of Body Language

- Since we first published this science, nothing about Sally has changed. Nothing. Sometimes, you talk to her and you’re about to say, “Sally, don’t you realize your body language indicates deep-seeded issues with commitment? Issues that spring from your own narcissistic fear of aging?” But then you just cross your arms (classic body language) and listen to her complain about how it’s too difficult to return a used dress to the department store.
Wildlife Wednesday: Colorful chameleons
In this week’s photo selection, let’s explore the amazing reptiles known for their full range of colors and ability to blend into surroundings: chameleons. Here’s a delightful batch of species found in Madagascar to Singapore.
“This is a chameleon from Madagascar living in the Masoala hall of the zoo of Zürich.” – Tambako The Jaguar
“Very lucky to have even seen this camouflaged guy at all.” – Tom Huber
“Also known as the Short-horned Chameleon. The most striking and distinctive features of the short-horned chameleon are its large, ear-like occipital lobes, and the short bony appendage that projects from the snout.” – Roger Sargent
“The Western Dwarf Chameleon can be found on the west coast of South Africa. This specimen is well camouflaged in its surroundings near Lambert’s Bay, Western Cape, South Africa.” – Jean-Paul Brouard
“Stick chameleon, champion for camouflage. Endemic to Madagascar and found only in the eastern rainforest.” – Andriambolantsoa Rasolohery
Panther chameleon, endemic reptile of Madagascar. – Pierre-Yves Babelon
“Looking for new territories” – Gourav Konar

Robert Bowen’s “Blasphemous Nature.”
Robert Bowen’s (Featured) creative mechanical, often otherworldly insects and various creatures will be on full display in his upcoming solo show, “Blasphemous Nature" which opens at Fifty 24PDX Gallery in Portland, Oregon on Thursday, August 7th. I’ve had a few chances to see Bowen’s work in person and it’s always a great adventure to look at as not only are the paintings beautiful but they really fill your mind with what-if’s.
