Game Gear shirt by Mars16 ⊟

This nice (Japan-only) shirt reminds us of a better time, a time when Sega had the cash and the clout to make hardware. I spent many hours playing Columns and some awful Ren & Stimpy game on one of these.

Sadly, things aren’t quite as great at Sega right now. Best of luck to all the employees affected by these recent layoffs. :/ Link via Miki800

Seattle police pepper sprayed a teacher who was walking and talking to his mom

by gguillotte
Hagopian had just finished giving a speech at King County's annual Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration about how black lives matter and was on the phone with his mother when he was pepper-sprayed, his lawyer, James Bible, told Mashable. They were discussing plans for his two-year-old's birthday party that was scheduled later that day. "His eyes begin to burn, his nostrils began to burn, he felt pressure in his ear and he had difficulty breathing," Bible said, adding that the teacher spent most of the afternoon washing his eyes out with milk. The party was canceled. Hagopian's six-year-old was said to be deeply concerned.

Lembas Bread (Lord of the Rings “authentic” Elvish bread)

Ingredients:

 2 ½ cups of flour
1 tablespoon of baking powder
¼ teaspoon of salt
½ cup of butter
1/3 cup of brown sugar
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
½ teaspoon honey
2/3 cup of heavy whipping cream
½ teaspoon of vanilla

Directions:

Preheat oven to 425F. Mix the flour, baking powder and salt into a large bowl. Add the butter and mix with a well till fine granules (easiest way is with an electric mixer). Then add the sugar and cinnamon, and mix them thoroughly.

Finally add the cream, honey, and vanilla and stir them in with a fork until a nice, thick dough forms.

Roll the dough out about 1/2 in thickness. Cut out 3-inch squares and transfer the dough to a cookie sheet.Criss-cross each square from corner-to-corner with a knife, lightly (not cutting through the dough).

Bake for about 12 minutes or more (depending on the thickness of the bread) until it is set and lightly golden.

***Let cool completely before eating, this bread tastes better room temperature and dry. Also for more flavor you can add more cinnamon or other spices***

Watch This: Peter Dinklage’s first star turn is a low-key delight

by Alex McCown

Every day, Watch This offers staff recommendations inspired by a new movie coming out that week. This week: With Sundance running all week, we look back at some of the festival’s best prizewinners.

The Station Agent (2003)

When The A.V. Club interviewed Peter Dinklage in 2007, the actor claimed his first starring role wound up convincing a lot of people that it was at least partially autobiographical. Given the lead character’s misanthropic tendencies, people confusing Dinklage for his character probably made for some awkward real-life social interactions.

The Station Agent follows Finbar McBride (Dinklage), a train fanatic and isolate who moves into a former station depot in rural New Jersey after his only friend and employer dies. Despite barely speaking (and often in single-word declaratives when he does), Fin is slowly drawn into an unsteady friendship with the nearby food-truck proprietor Bobby Cannavale (Joe Oramas) and a ...

No, Your Phone Doesn’t Have a Virus; Those App Store Redirects Come From Difficult-to-Stop Ads - We're sorry. We're so sorry.

by Dan Van Winkle

5540953795_617de9187f_z

We here at The Mary Sue can sympathize with annoying ad behavior from autoplaying, unmuted video to redirecting users to other sites entirely. Mobile browser users with Android and iOS devices have been getting app store redirects for a long time, and though the problem is difficult to stop, it isn’t cause for concern—just annoyance.

The problem has been widespread across the Internet and even apps, because it’s often hard to pin down which ad network or specific ad is causing the unwanted behavior—especially when those ads take you to a different page and load a more innocent one when you return. TechCrunch reported last year that the sites affected included, “Imgur, the AP, NBC, Hearst properties, various newspaper sites and blogs, eBay, Perez Hilton, SomethingAwful, WeatherUnderground, TwitPic, Cheezburger.com, Slickdeals, Twitchy, NHL, and many others.” So why is this still happening?

I’ve personally noticed it recently here on The Mary Sue (as have our readers) and SmashBoards as well, and while we’ve done everything we can to work with our ad networks and find what’s causing the problem, it’s tough to be sure that it’s gone. Luckily, all the redirects really do is hamper the user experience. They whisk you away to try to sell you on Candy CrushClash of Clans, and other apps, but they don’t do much else.

But trying to get rid of them is like a big game of tag, which is the reason the problem still persists. Affected sites have no choice but to give their ad networks reports of misbehaving ads with varying degrees of detail, and then the ad networks have to figure out which ads are responsible. That gets extra tough when ad networks actually buy ads from each other and are middlemen between the affected parties and the actual advertisers responsible.

And then there are the actual game makers, who don’t necessarily condone the behavior either but can’t figure out who’s causing trouble on their behalf. A spokesperson for King, the company behind Candy Crush, told Tech Crunch way back in early 2014,

King’s contracts with suppliers explicitly state that this practice is not allowed when working with the company, and it will terminate contracts and no longer work with any suppliers found in breach of contract by creating these redirects. Where King can get exact links and examples of where these redirects are happening, it can try to track the supplier that is using these redirects. Any details given to help track down guilty parties are appreciated.

So if you’ve been concerned about the sanctity of your phone, you can rest easy knowing that it’s all just a big, confusing, intrusive-but-not-directly-harmful mess.

Stunning Stained Glass-Steampunk Costume

by Amy Ratcliffe

stained glass steampunk costume 1

Some costumes turn around and make you do a double take, and this is one of them. Paige Gardner wore this original costume, dubbed Abbey, at Dragon Con last year. I wish I would have spotted the creation in person, but if I did, I probably would have blocked traffic while I took as many photos as I could and talked to her about the build. It’s simply gorgeous.

The Abbey costume was inspired by Warhammer 40K Adeptus Ministorum and features elements influenced by art nouveau. Gardner repurposes items she’s salvaged from places like thrift stores and turns them into incredible costumes. She hopes her methods encourage others who want to make costumes since she executes her outfits with limited resources. This project started with a stack of thrift store coloring books. She explains:

“…this costume evolved with my traditional tool kit of thrift store elements, no-sew shortcuts… tiny investment but lots of persistence. It’s worth noting that I actually measured some things for this project (with a real measuring tape), which I consider a significant leap forward on my “things I can do” list.”

This. is a new site created by Andrew Golis that only allows users to share one link per day. Users can follow each other, but their interactions are limited to clicking “Thanks” on links they appreciate other people sharing.

In online communities it is common for users to show support for a posted link or comment by simply replying with the word “this” or using the word in front of a link. The site is currently in beta and people can only join it with an invitation from a current user.

This. is a place to find and share the web’s best stories, ideas and arguments. Each user can share just 1 link a day.

We’re in that early, invite-only beta stage! Ask your friends if they’ve got an invite.

Wi-Fi Issues Continue For OS X Users Despite Updates

by Soulskill
itwbennett writes: Although Apple has never officially acknowledged issues surrounding Yosemite and Wi-Fi connectivity, the company is clearly aware of the problem: Leading off the improvements offered in the update 10.10.2 update released Tuesday was 'resolves an issue that might cause Wi-Fi to disconnect,' according to the release notes. Despite this, Apple's support forum was filled with tales of frustrated users. And Mac owners aren't the only Apple users experiencing wireless connection failures after updating their OS. Wi-Fi connectivity issues have also dogged iOS 8 since Apple released the mobile OS on Sept. 17.

An Unusual Dog With a Pit Bull Head and a Dachshund Body Is Up for Adoption in Georgia

by Lori Dorn
firehose

you BABY

Rami long.
Rami, an adorable dog with a pitbull head and a dachshund body is currently up for adoption at the Moultrie Colquitt County Humane Society in Moultrie Georgia. While Rami may be odd looking, according to the people watching over him he’s an active dog who’s really sweet, although he could use some training.

I’m Rami and I’m looking for my forever home. I’m a year old Dachshund/Pit bull mix. Yes, you’re reading that right, and, no, you haven’t gone crazy. I’m full of energy. I don’t like walking on a leash. I’m a sweetie pie, and love to run. I don’t listen very well, so you’ll need to take some time to train me. Because I tend to be a bit hyper, I might not be the best addition to a household with little kids. But I’m sure that all I need is a little lovin’. Will you take me home?

Due to Rami’s recent popularity, the shelter is taking applications for his adoption and will take time approving them.

Due to all the interest in Rami we are accepting applications for his adoption at this moment. Please email us at : moultriehumanesociety@windstream.net to be sent an application. Approved applications will be scheduled for a follow up interview. We are in the process of having Rami fully vetted to include shots and neutering which will be included in his total adoption fee. We are a small shelter with limited funds, so we are unable to provide transportation, but we appreciate all your interest in our sweet Rami.

A Simple Way to Make Doughnut-Waffle Hybrid Krispy Kreme Waffles

    by Rebecca Escamilla
    firehose

putting random shit in a waffle iron always works beat

    Krispy Kreme Waffles

Amy Erickson of Oh Bite It came up with an incredibly simple way to unite doughnuts and waffles into a stack of a sweet, sweet excess in her recipe for Krisy Kreme waffles. The waffles are made by gently placing glazed doughnuts from popular doughnut chain Krispy Kreme in a standard waffle iron, removing them when warm and toasted, then topping with butter and syrup.

The stack of four pictured above packs a whopping 760 calories according to Krispy Kreme’s nutritional data–or a little over 800 calories when adding a pat of butter and a tablespoon of maple syrup. For more efficient doughnut-waffle hybrids, the syrup step can be skipped by swapping Krispy Kreme maple-glazed doughnuts for the plain-glazed variety.

George R.R. Martin’s Publisher Confirms: No New A Song of Ice and Fire Novel in 2015 - A Song of Sigh and Ire

    by Jill Pantozzi
    firehose

    lol

    CerseiScream1

Ok, most of could have guessed this, but I’m not the only one who was holding out hope George R.R. Martin would get his next A Song of Ice and Fire this year, right?

The Guardian writes, “his publisher confirmed there are no plans for the much-anticipated latest volume from his A Song of Ice and Fire series to appear in 2015.” However, we will get three illustrated Westeros novellas with previously published words.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms takes place nearly a century before the bloody events of the A Song of Ice and Fire series, when the Iron Throne was still held by the Targaryens. Out in October, it is a compilation of the first three official prequel novellas to the series, The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword and The Mystery Knight, never before collected, and now set for release in a new illustrated edition.

These new additions will be illustrated by Gary Gianni.

Going on to speak about The Winds of Winter, Jane Johnson from HarperCollins told The Guardian, “These are increasingly complex books and require immense amounts of concentration to write. Fans really ought to appreciate that the length of these monsters is equivalent to two or three novels by other writers.”

A Dance with Dragons was published in 2011, before that A Feast for Crows in 2005, A Storm of Swords in 2000. My bet? We’ll see The Winds of Winter published early 2016 before the premiere of Game of Thrones Season 6 in order to keep the television series from getting ahead of the books. I’d like to say they’ve all been planning on timing together because otherwise it would be a big disappointment to the book fans, but Martin has previously said, “The last thing I want is for the TV series to catch up with me. I’ve got a considerable head start, but production is moving faster than I can write.”

How To Write SEO Posts About How To Watch The Super Bowl

Hello, fellow internet content makers. Don't worry -- it's just us here. None of the trash who read our websites can see this. It's just *us*.

Timberland Drops A.P.C. Following Offensive Racial Remarks

    by gguillotte
The section in question featured predominately camel-colored ensembles and boots from A.P.C’s boot collaboration with Timberland. Touitou explained to members of the press that the collection was inspired by both West’s Watch The Throne song “N****as in Paris” and the Marlon Brando film Last Tango in Paris. The boots were included because, as he explained to Style.com, the shoe brand “is a very strong ghetto signifier.” Timberland, taking offense to the entire offensive situation, has now decided to immediately cut ties with A.P.C. despite the fact that the partnership launched less than a week ago.
