Clínica chinesa promete transformar pessoas em pets

Li Shizhen carrega em seu nome a marca do mais importante médico da história chinesa. “Na época do primeiro Li Shizhen tudo que ele podia usar em métodos simples. Hoje temos todo um leque de possibildades abertas pela engenharia genética. Hoje podemos moldar o corpo da pessoa para se adequar ao seu sentimento espiritual”, explica ele, enquanto caminha pela clínica arborizada, situada na cidade de Pequim.
Li Shizhen começou a se interessar pela engenharia genética e pelas mudanças corporais quando se deparou, em seu consultório, com um caso de uma paciente acometida de somatoparafrenia, uma doença que faz a pessoa acreditar que parte de seu corpo é um ente estranho. “A mulher não aceitava seu braço direito. Dizia que não era dela”, lembra “Ela me pediu para retirá-lo. Foi um conflito ético”.
O caso fez com que o médico pesquisasse outras doenças, como Síndrome da Má Identificação Delirante, em que a pessoa acredita que está no corpo errado: “Ela nem mesmo reconhece seu corpo no espelho”, explica. “Há muitos outros casos. Os mais famosos são pessoas que nascem como homem, mas sentem que sua personalidade é feminina, ou o contrário. Mudanças de gênero já são comuns na medicina, mas queremos ir um passo além”.
Uma das inspirações foi a artista francesa Orlan, que já fez dezenas de operações plásticas, modificando seu corpo de acordo com obras famosas da pintura. O artista australiano Sterlac também serviu de inspiração, com seu conceito de que o corpo humano está obsoleto. Sterlac chegou, inclusive a implantar uma orelha em seu braço. “Hoje, com o avanço da medicina, podemos modificar o corpo e adequá-lo à necessidade psicológica da pessoa”, explica Shizhen.
A ideia dos pets surgiu da sugestão de que alguns dos pacientes se identificavam com animais. “Há pessoas que se sentem cachorros, gatos e querem viver essa experiência híbrida de serem, ao mesmo tempo, humanos e animais de estimação”.
Acusado de estar brincado de deus, o médico rebate: “Nós começamos a brincar de Deus quando fizemos as primeiras próteses. O que estamos fazendo agora em termos de medicina estética é apenas uma consequência das primeiras próteses de silicone”.
Uma das primeiras pacientes a passarem pela transformação será a catarinense Patrícia Swzen. Desde pequena ela se sente que está no corpo errado. “Eu sempre me identifiquei com animais, em especial com cachorrinhas. Sempre quis viver como um animal de estimação”. Patrícia é casada há cinco anos com um empresário local que não quis se identificar. Apesar de ter estranhado no início o desenho da esposa de se transformar em um híbrido de humano com canídeo, ele diz que passou a aprecia a ideia: “Tenho certeza de que ela vai ficar linda e vou continuar amando-a. Se isso a faz feliz, tem todo o meu apoio”.
Patrícia está tendo a consultoria de psicólogos e fazendo exames pré-operatórios. A cirurgia está marcada para o início do mês de julho deste ano.

The website, Japan Trend Shop sells the items, which are said to tighten the cheeks while doing breathing exercise and therefore hiding wrinkles.
Users are advised to insert the mouthpiece and make mouth movements with it for three minutes a day.
To get the best results the instructions say 'to make vowel sounds out loud over and over again'.
Also available is a device, which is billed as being able to ‘straighten your nose’ and a mask which claims will get rid of smile lines by acting as a bra.
The Japan Trend Shop website is known for selling a range of weird and wonderful products that are said to fight the signs of ageing and improve beauty.

U.S. Customers Unsurprisingly Delaying New iPhone Purchases as iPhone 6 Launch Nears

A study from Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster unsurprisingly shows that interest in the iPhone is waning as the current lineup ages and users are increasingly looking toward an expected fall launch for the iPhone 6. The survey asked 1,016 U.S. consumers about their plans to buy a new smartphone in the next three months.
According to Munster, only 34 percent of surveyed consumers plan to buy an iPhone in the coming months, down from the 50 percent reported shortly after the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c launch in September of last year. While interest in the iPhone wanes, consumer attention towards Android has increased as the balance shifts toward the newest handsets. Leading Android vendor Samsung introduced its latest flagship Galaxy S5 handset in February ahead of a launch last month.
This declining interest in the iPhone is not surprising, given the cyclic nature of product launches. With the iPhone midway in its product cycle, consumers may be delaying their purchase of a new iPhone due to rumors that suggest Apple's iPhone 6 is likely to arrive this fall. The effect of rumors on a consumer's purchasing decision is nothing new -- Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer blamed rumors for declining iPhone sales in the months preceding the launch of the iPhone 4S. The iPhone 6 also appears set to bring a larger than normal upgrade spike as the device moves to a significantly larger display.
Even with U.S. customers delaying their purchases, Piper Jaffray still sees reason for optimism with continued strong international sales and even U.S. planned purchase rates remaining as high as 34 percent.

The Mar-14 quarter showed 17% y/y iPhone growth, which was significantly ahead of Street expectations for low single digit y/y growth. We believe that the iPhone showed significant strength in overseas markets, in addition to the China Mobile launch, that enabled it to grow meaningfully higher than expectations. While our survey is US focused, we believe the data suggests that the iPhone, particularly the highest-end 5S model, continues to have staying power given about a third of US smartphone consumers expect to purchase an iPhone in the next three months. We view the stronger March quarter in addition to our survey as an indication that iPhone can remain healthy into the iPhone 6 upgrade in September.Apple's next-generation iPhone is expected to launch this fall with a 4.7-inch display, a faster A8 processor, and an upgraded rear-facing camera with image stabilization. It may also feature a thinner profile with a new power button layout and elongated buttons to accommodate the changes in form factor. An even larger 5.5-inch model may also be in the works, although it could launch several months later than the 4.7-inch version.
