For most kids in high school, the future promises better days. But for a certain group, there’s no time like the past.
Remember those super popular kids in high school who had the world at their feet with their charm, good looks, athletic ability and general confidence? Well they have a message for you, “It Doesn’t Get Better“. While this short film by storyteller Jason Headley is an irreverently funny parody of the wonderful anti-bullying project “It Gets Better, there’s probably a little bit of sad truth in the film as well.

Christopher LantzBreath taking.
“Desert Breath” is a monumental piece of land art in the Eastern Sahara Desert in Egypt that takes the form of 2 spirals emanating from a circular depression 100 feet in diameter. The installation occupies over a million square feet of desert and can be viewed from the air. Artist Danae Stratou, designer and architect Alexandra Stratou, and architect Stella Constantinides created the project between 1995 and 1997. It has since been left to slowly disintegrate.
Located between the sea and a body of mountains at the point where the immensity of the sea meets the immensity of the desert, the work functions on two different levels in terms of viewpoint: from above as a visual image, and from the ground, walking the spiral pathway, a physical experience.

It seems that Internet trolls are giving a very bad name to the mythical trolls of lore. According to a new study conducted by the University of Manitoba Psychology Department, Internet trolls generally manifest signs of sadism, psychopathy, narcissism, and Machiavellianism, a group of personality disorders known as the “Dark Tetrad”. Laci Green from Discovery News explains the findings in more detail.
If you’ve spent any time on the Internet, you’ll know that there are some people who take pleasure in derailing meaningful conversation with hurtful or meaningless comments. What do these trolls do offline? Laci is here to discuss the psychology of trolls and some disturbing links to the Dark Tetrad.
Vocalist Miche Braden joined Scott Bradlee and Postmodern Jukebox to perform an amazing rendition of the 1988 Guns N’Roses hit song “Sweet Child O’ Mine“, 1920s New Orleans style.
Our friend Miche Braden returned to help us show what Guns N’ Roses “Sweet Child O’ Mine” would have sounded like if New Orleans blues legend Bessie Smith had recorded it back in the ’20s. That note at 3:58 was so powerful that the room literally shook…
Previously we wrote about Puddles the Sad Clown and Postmodern Jukebox performing a 1970s piano ballad cover of ‘Royals’ by Lorde and Postmodern Jukebox Band performing an old time-y jazz cover of “Thrift Shop” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.

Christopher LantzThat's how I'd pay a debt like that.
Last night on the debut episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the host Jimmy Fallon decided to call in a $100 bet made with a friend of his that said he’d never be the host of The Tonight Show. As it turns out, Fallon had a similar bet with a number of different friends, including but not limited to Robert De Niro, Kim Kardashian, Joan Rivers, and even Lady Gaga, and they all paid a visit to the set to cough up the dough.

From wearing their underwear outside their clothes to going on adventures with young boys, superheroes do a lot of things that’d be creepy if you did them in real life.
Teenage is a fascinating documentary about the emergence, in the first half of the 20th century, of the concept of a “teenager.” The film tells the stories of four teenagers, from a German girl in the Hitler Youth to an African-American Boy Scout, through archival materials and diary entries. Teenage was directed by Matt Wolf and written by Jon Savage, author of Teenage: The Creation of Youth Culture 1875-1945. The film will be in U.S. theaters this spring.
Before the ‘Teenager’ was invented, there was no second stage of life. You were either a child or you went to work as an adult. At the turn of the century, child labor was ending, ‘adolescence’ was emerging, and a struggle erupted between adults and youth. Would the young be controlled and regimented, or could they be free?

Everyone is seeking “Vengeance” in the second trailer that has been released for the upcoming fourth season of Game of Thrones. Season four is set to premiere on HBO April 6th, 2014 at 9 PM. Are Any Animals Truly Monogamous?
MinuteEarth examines the concept of monogamy among animals (including humans) and essentially comes to the rather startling conclusion that most animals are not naturally predisposed to the idea of having only one mate.
But one thing is clear, among all the species monogamy is rare and monogamy without cheating is rarer.

Los Angeles producer/writer Katie King and her friends made a painfully accurate shot-for-shot remake of the 1983 music video for “Separate Ways” by Journey. It’s quite impressive.
Katie writes about her inspiration for the remake:
I’ve been intrigued by Journey since college, when some roommates and I stumbled across Journey’s Behind the Music special on Vh1 and realized that Journey really had written “the soundtrack of our lives.” The video for Separate Ways is one of the best/worst of all time, and this year for my birthday I gathered together some fun and talented friends to attempt a shot-by-shot recreation. Shot in 1.5 days with a limited budget that went entirely towards wigs, jean jackets and pizza, the results were so inspiring we had to capture some of the behind the scenes magic as well. I think Steve Perry would be proud?
Katie even created a “making of” behind-the-scenes video, done in the style of the VH1 series Behind the Music.
Here’s the original “Separate Ways” music video by Journey.

With eight weeks to go until the premiere, HBO has unveiled the most in-depth look yet at Season 4 of Game of Thrones. Titled “Fire and Ice Foreshadowing,” this 15-minute featurette offers tons of new footage, interviews with all of your favorite cast members, big hints about the plot turns to come, and even some fun snippets of behind-the-scenes playfulness. Watch it after the jump.
It’s tough to imagine how Season 4 could possibly top the madness that was Season 3′s Red Wedding, but given that the show hasn’t shown any signs of creative fatigue, we have faith that they’ll clear the high bar they’ve set for themselves. The lengthy preview drops some major clues about what’s going to happen next season, but there’s no real need to fear spoilers. This being Game of Thrones, you can bet they’ve got a jaw-dropping twist or five up their sleeves.
Even more enjoyable than the teases about the upcoming story arcs, though, are the brief cast interviews. These actors spend so much time looking dead-serious on the show that it’s a treat to see them relax. Kit Harington cracks a very un-Jon Snow-like smile as he talks about his favorite character Bronn, while Gwendoline Christie proves to have a much better sense of humor than the ultra-earnest Brienne. And you’ll love seeing what Peter Dinklage and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau do to pass time between takes.
The new season will cover roughly the second half of George R.R. Martin‘s A Storm of Swords (Book 3 of the A Song of Ice and Fire series) and may also include material from A Feast For Crows (Book 4) and A Dance With Dragons (Book 5). Like the seasons before it, it will consist of ten episodes.
Game of Thrones returns to HBO for its fourth season on April 6.
Christopher LantzWow... this reporter REALLY gets worked up over this winter storm.
