What If Google Search Were a Real Person, Part 3

by Rollin Bishop
Christopher Lantz

The bit about the Boston bomber especially.

CollegeHumor returns for another round of a theoretical world where Google’s search engine is actually a person that everyone consults. In the latest video, Google takes a trip to the Deep Web, looks for pictures of Sonic the Hedgehog, and attempts to help someone determine if vaccines cause autism.

Diablo’s Witch Doctor Costume

by Amy Ratcliffe

Diablo witch doctor

Diablo III’s Witch Doctor is one creepy looking character, and Instructables user andysmeech did an excellent job translating it from screen to real life. He used a combination of everyday objects like wire clothes hangers and building materials such as expanding foam to achieve the finished look. Here’s how he made the head piece:

As you can see I saved the hassle of having like 18 steps on this project by stitching the images together for your pleasure [pictured below]. The first image to the left is my backbone to the whole mask. I started by buying a cheap plastic mask. Attached to the plastic mask is a paper towel role with a wired clothes hanger through it to make the long horns, two cardboard nub horns and an added forehead piece, and sideburn armor. Everything is taped to hold it in place. the next image (top right) is the back bone covered in Great Stuff – it is a spray insulation foam from the hardware store. Once I covered the mask with foam I let it dry for a whole day. Once it was dry I started to carve the foam to take shape of the face and horns. Once I was was done the carving I painted the mask with spray paint and acrylics.

He said the small details really made this costume. He made the ear plugs and bone piercing with modeling clay and painted them with acrylic. The neck piece was made from rope, and he used a piece of a cheap curtain to make the tassel pendant. The potion bottles are plastic bottles filled with food coloring and water.

‘The Zero Theorem’ US Trailer

by Russ Fischer

Zero Theorem US trailer

There’s a new US trailer for Terry Gilliam‘s latest film, The Zero Theorem, and some release info for the US, too. After months in limbo the movie finally has a Stateside release date of August 19th for digital and VOD, with a theatrical release set for September 19. Christoph Waltz stars as a troubled man tasked with a potentially impossible problem, and Mélanie Thierry, David Thewlis, Lucas Hedges, Ben Whishaw, Tilda Swinton and Matt Damon all play roles as well. Check out the new Zero Theorem US trailer below.Sure, the film has been dinged in overseas release, and there are things in this trailer (and in all of the trailers, really) that makes me feel some concern for the film. But still, I’m still going to give Gilliam a shot, as he’s one of the last true maverick weirdos working on a big scale.

Trailer via Apple.

Acclaimed director Terry Gilliam (Brazil, 12 Monkeys, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas) returns with the visually stunning sci-fi epic The Zero Theorem, starring Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz as Qohen, an eccentric and reclusive computer genius. Living in isolation, Qohen is obsessively working on a mysterious project personally delegated to him by Management (Matt Damon) aimed at discovering the meaning of life – or the complete lack of one—once and for all. Increasingly disturbed by visits from people he doesn’t fully trust, including the flirtatious Bainsley (Mélanie Thierry), his unpredictable supervisor Job (David Thewlis), and would-be digital therapist Dr. Shrink-Rom (Tilda Swinton), it’s only when he experiences the power of love and desire that he’s able to understand his own reason for being.

‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1′ Teaser #2: A Message From District 13

by Angie Han

The Hunger Games Mockingjay

The first teaser for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 took the form of a video message from the Capitol, in which President Snow (Donald Sutherland) cloaked his threats to the rebels in platitudes about peace and unity. In the second teaser for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, the rebels fight back with a message of their own. Watch it after the jump.

Lionsgate / the Capitol / District 13 unveiled the video on YouTube.

Seeing Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) by Snow’s side in the last video was chilling enough, but the new video ups the ante by putting Johanna (Jena Malone) up there as well. It’s a heartbreaking transformation for a girl who spent her pre-Games interview screaming obscenities at those responsible for the Quarter Quell. Fortunately for them, help may be on the way as Beetee (Jeffrey Wright) has apparently found a way to hack into the system.

Francis Lawrence returns to direct the third installment of the Hunger Games series, which once again stars Jennifer Lawrence, Woody Harrelson, Sam Claflin, and Liam Hemsworth. Julianne Moore joins the cast this time as the leader of District 13. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 opens November 21, followed by Part 2 on November 20, 2015.

The worldwide phenomenon of The Hunger Games continues to set the world on fire with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, which finds Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) in District 13 after she literally shatters the games forever. Under the leadership of President Coin (Julianne Moore) and the advice of her trusted friends, Katniss spreads her wings as she fights to save Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and a nation moved by her courage. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 is directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay by Danny Strong and Peter Craig and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. The novel on which the film is based is the third in a trilogy written by Suzanne Collins that has over 65 million copies in print in the U.S. alone.

A Musicless Version of the Music Video for Elvis Presley’s ‘Blue Suede Shoes’ Dubbed With Odd Guitar & Vocal Sounds

by Justin Page
Christopher Lantz

I love these.

Mario Wienerroither recently stripped all of the groovy-sounding music out of the music video for “Blue Suede Shoes” by Elvis Presley. He then dubbed over the video with odd guitar and vocal sounds. We’ve previously written about Mario and his ongoing series of musicless music videos.

Here is the original music video for comparison:

A Comedic Animated Video on the Game Design of ‘The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past’ and ‘Ocarina of Time’

by Rollin Bishop
Christopher Lantz

I love Arin's discussion of Game Design and aggressive frustration. He and Dan play video games and pal around on my favorite You Tube show, Game Grumps.

Arin Hanson, also known as Egoraptor, has created a new animated video in his ongoing “Sequelitis” series that provides a comedic look at the game design of the video games The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Is Ocarina of Time REALLY the masterpiece we all say it is? What did it do to change how Zelda games are made? How much hate mail WILL I get for this?!
