Surprising Layers of Color Revealed on Urban Walls

I’m really enjoying these new pieces by artist 1010 that seems to peel away layers from mundane urban walls to reveal a depth of colorful layers. The Hamburg-based artist had a number of similar works on canvas at the Stroke Art Fair in Berlin in September.

Evicted
I’ve never been evicted, and that’s because I’ve never had an apartment. I’m living off the grid, baby! A wandering website-running vagabond. Pretty sure there was a Neil Young song about that. I think it was called, “Kickass Vagabond Tony, What a Handsome Dude, I’d Kiss Him If I Could, But It Would Never Happen Because He’s Too Busy Being His Own Multinational Enterprise of Babe-a-Licious Attraction, How *Does* He Do It? (Parts 1 & 2) ”
You’re probably thinking, “Isn’t it a little backwards to be running a website if you’re trying to live off the grid?” Well, smarty-pants, the answer is a big, obese, Cheeto-munching “NO.” I’m hiding in plain sight! The internet is the new norm; everyone’s on it. Only outliers avoid being on the internet, and you could easily find and kill ‘em all by setting fire to the dumb woods in Montana that they’re all hiding in! I’m the Where’s Waldo of the crowded fairgrounds that is the internet. AmazingSuperPowers is the Wizard! And Wes, well, he’s like one of the scrolls I guess.
Anyone who searches for me or the site is going to get distracted and wind up somewhere else! Search for “AmazingSuperPowers” and you’ll only get as far as “Ama” before accidentally going to Amazon or an Ask Me Anything with Dink Flurtman, creator of some crappy pandering BBC show, who will only spend a single sentence hastily answering your question before spending a paragraph trying to sell you the special edition Blu Ray of his *other* crappy pandering show. Or if search for “Tony” you only get as far as “To” before you start writing “To my One True Love, Dink Flurtman” because you really, really love that guy and can’t wait to buy all the things he’s trying to sell you. Thanks, Dink, for being my human shield in this modern technological warzone. You die so that I may live another day. Rule of the jungle, baby.

Bizarre New Animated Gifs from Zach Dougherty

Digital artist Zach Dougherty (previously) is back with a new round if really strange animated gifs, placing his strange amorphous and glitchy objects against ordinary backdrops. Let’s file this under “I don’t know what it is but I like it.” (via Ignant)
Unexpected Layers of Glass Added to Stones and Books by Ramon Todo

Born in Tokyo, Dusseldorf-based artist Ramon Todo creates beautiful textural juxtapositions using layers of glass in unexpected places. Starting with various stones, volcanic rock, fragments of the Berlin wall, and even books, the artist inserts perfectly cut glass fragments that seem to slice through the object resulting in segments of translucence where you would least expect it. You can see more of his work over on Art Front Gallery, and here. (via My Amp Goes to 11)

Robert Wechsler. These coin sculptures by Robert Wechsler were...

Robert Wechsler.
These coin sculptures by Robert Wechsler were commissioned by The New Yorker for their October 14th, 2013 money edition of the magazine. Wechsler intricately cut notches into common coins using a jeweler’s saw to create complex geometric forms and shapes. This series of sculptures is an extension of Wechsler’s “The Mendicant" project where he seeked (and seeks) "to awaken undiscovered virtue in everyday objects and spaces by challenging commonplace associations through careful intervention." You can see more of the beautiful creations by Robert below:

Luminariums on tour
The idea of designing inflatable environments to display the beauty of light and color started with a structure called “Eggopolis” — a project built in 1990 that led to the creation of the Architects of Air (AoA) company. Today, AoA staff have designed and constructed six luminariums, or walk-in mazes of domes and tunnels. The plastic monuments have been featured in hundreds of events and are currently taking tours through locations worldwide.
See, and share, more photos in the Inflatable Luminariums gallery and Luminarium Photos group.
