Cool. Same here.
The Tour Odeon isn't finished yet, but the 35,000-square foot penthouse crowning the seaside principality's first new skyscraper in decades, is about to hit the market at a price of around $440 million — hailed as the highest ever for a penthouse.
Locals, of course, may not be so fazed by the sticker price. After all, as Bloomberg News reports, somewhere around one in three Monaco residents are millionaires.
Monaco-based architect Alexandre Giraldi designed the Odeon, inspired by early 20th century Paris — while boasting 259 units for sale, along with 73 private luxury residences, Gizmodo reports.
So far, 26 flats have been sold. If you're planning on making a bid for the penthouse, the line, obviously, starts here.

Truth In Advertising: Booze Bottles With Realistic Names
daniprettosome are pretty accurate
This is a small series of booze bottles piss-poorly Photoshopped to offer more truth in advertising. For the record, I would still drink all of them, regardless of the consequences. As a matter of fact, just last night I drank four pints of Complain About Your Coworkers To The Bartender and six shots of Wake Up In The Middle Of The Night With Diarrhea. And you know what? I'll probably do the exact same tonight. Plus maybe a Let Me Tell You What's Wrong With The Government if they're on happy hour special.

daniprettoanyone want to buy a town? only 2 hours from whistler (and then 3.5 from van)!
The ghost town, which has has 22 buildings on over 50 acres, is selling for $995,000. It has power and phone lines, according to the listing, and is described as "one of the best snowmobiling areas in B.C."
Bradian has been on the market since February 2010 when it was listed for $1.3 million, Pique Newsmagazine reported.
Realtor John Lovelace is selling the property for Tom and Katherine Gutenberg, who bought it in 2007.
"It was disappearing at the rate of several houses per year, people would simply dismantle them for parts," Tom told Pique in 2010. "It's important for us to keep that sort of thing and that really was my intent, to save that piece of B.C. history."
The couple spent time fixing up the town and bringing their kids up every summer, said Global News. But in 2010 they decided it was time to let someone else have a go.
Lovelace is convinced there is money to be made in Bradian, telling Global that "if you build it, people would come."
While Lovelace has received dozens of inquiries, most back off when they realize how much work is required to upgrade the town, said The Province.
“The problem is that, for someone to get involved, it’s going to involve some imagination and somebody with deep pockets — that’s always been the issue,” Lovelace told the newspaper.
But he added: “They have the satisfaction of owning this town and being able to do everything they want to do with it."

Justin Bieber Bribe Incident Leads To Firing Of Canadian Border Guard: Report
daniprettohe is unreal and not very smart
NOW Toronto interviewed two border guards, who spoke on condition of anonymity, and reported that "a chief" at a Niagara Falls border crossing was fired after she accepted a bribe worth $10,000 in backstage passes to the Canadian pop star's shows. In exchange, the guard allowed two American members of Bieber's entourage with criminal records to enter Canada.
Foreigners with criminal convictions can be turned away from Canada. Bieber, who is facing criminal charges, can not be stopped from returning since he's a Canadian citizen.
It's unclear when the bribing incident took place but the issue surfaced when friends of Bieber showed up at the same crossing expecting similar treatment weeks later. That's when the on-duty officers blew the whistle, TMZ reports.
On Aug. 12, the border agency's president released a memo to staff urging them to report any suspicious behaviour.
"Most of you are likely aware of investigations underway by the CBSA Professional Standards Investigation Directorate into allegations of employee misconduct in the Southern Ontario region," the memo said.
"While the investigations are ongoing, we can tell you that the allegations include accepting gifts, hospitality and other benefits; acceptances of travel offer from a third party and misuse of government electronic networks; abuse of authority; and, engaging in preferential treatment."
Professional Standards Investigation in Southern Ontario - Canada Border Services Agency
The Huffington Post Canada reached out to the CBSA for comment but has yet to hear back.
The 20-year-old pop star is in legal trouble on both sides of the border. He is currently facing assault charges stemming from an incident with a Toronto limo driver last December. And last week, Bieber dodged jail time in Florida after accepting a plea deal over charges of drunk driving, driving without a license and resisting arrest, ET Canada reports.
Bieber and his bodyguards are also facing civil lawsuits after a member of the paparazzi accused the singer and his bodyguard of assault. According to the photographer, Bieber ordered his guard to attack him after he snapped a shot of Bieber in Hawaii jumping from a cliff.
The photographer's claims have yet to be proven in court.

Ornate Painted Dragons Based on a Single Giant Brush Stroke
daniprettokinda cool. kinda devalues the art when it's so easy.

One of the most common feelings I get when watching an artist working is “oh, that looks easy.” After all, the materials and method are all right in front of you: paint or ink, a paint brush or pen, and a hand that moves deftly across a canvas. What goes completely unseen of course are the years upon years of practice, the trials and failures, and the possession of innate talent. A great example of this are these Japanese dragon paintings that are rendered almost completely with a single stroke of paint.
According to Japanese culture blog Iromegane, the paintings are called Hitofude Ryuu (Dragon with one stroke), and the ones shown here originate from a small studio called Kousyuuya in Nikko, Japan. The studio has seen four generations of master painters who have been creating these stylized dragons for decades.
The process involves carefully painting an ornate dragon head with various flourishes, and then finishing the piece using a giant sumi brush in a carefully orchestrated stroke. The process has much in common with both ink wash painting and calligraphy, and similar to letterforms, the images are often repeated. From the videos you can see certain designs are reused in different colors or with added details. All the videos here start at the fun part where the torso is painted, but you can rewind them a bit to see the creation of the entire painting. (via Cineraria, Iromegane)

Stand Up To Cancer To Bring Jennifer Aniston, Jon Hamm, Halle Berry And Will Ferrell To Canada, TIFF
daniprettocool. the telethon enters the 21st century!
They are among the stars slated to appear on Stand Up to Cancer, an hour-long telethon set to air on Sept. 5 on 31 broadcast and cable networks simultaneously – including CBC-TV.
Other celebrity participants announced Wednesday include Pierce Brosnan, Rob Lowe, Will Ferrell, Ben Stiller, Eric Stonestreet and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Rather than the stars staffing phone banks as they have on past Stand Up to Cancer telethons, they'll be contacting with viewers by phone and online through Facebook and other platforms from a "digital lounge" hosted by Katie Couric. Fans can sign up for the "We're Calling You" initiative beginning Wednesday at werecallingyou.org.
"We'll have plenty of stars reaching out to donors via social media, thanking them through Facebook messages, digital shout outs, Instagrams and tweets," Couric said. "In other words, this year, we are so 2014!"
"Instead of people calling in with the hope of talking to a celebrity, stars will be calling and sending social shout-outs to viewers at home," Couric said.
The Stand Up to Cancer special will also feature performances by Jennifer Hudson, Ariana Grande, The Who, Common & Lupe Fiasco and Dave Matthews.
For the first time, the telethon will include a Canadian co-broadcast, with funds raised benefiting research and awareness programs in Canada. This year's telecast will feature cutaways to a live event in Toronto with film stars attending the Toronto International Film Festival.
Funds raised by the telethon support international, inter-disciplinary scientific research aimed at discovering new treatments for various types of cancer. Since its first broadcast in 2008, Stand Up to Cancer has pledged more than $260 million.

Brilliant Device Could Completely Replace Crutches!
daniprettocrutches are super outdated. this is too limited but interesting.
It is astonishing that the design of crutches hasn’t changed much since they were invented about 100 years ago. Behzad Rashidi’s brilliant Sit & Stand Walking Assistant addresses this anachronism and reconfigures the crutch into a hands-free aid that uses upper body strength to support the weight of an injured leg. The design was submitted as an entry to James Dyson Foundation’s annual Dyson Award.

A US Map Of The Relative Value Of $100, By State
daniprettovery interesting that DC is the worst!!
This is a US map showing the relative value of $100 by state. Money buys significantly less in California, Hawaii, DC, Maryland, New York and New Jersey. Thanks to Lindby, who agrees the states where money goes the furthest also seem to be the states with less fun things to spend money on. After all, a person can only sit at home drinking and gambling online for so long.Former Canadian Idol contestant found not guilty of plotting to commit terrorism
daniprettovery scary but who wants to bet that going on canadian idol was some part of frosh or carnival?
London pathologist Khurram Syed Sher has been found not guilty of conspiring to facilitate terrorism.
Ontario Superior Court Justice Charles Hackland told an Ottawa courtroom on Tuesday he had not been persuaded beyond a reasonable doubt that the doctor had joined a plot with two co-conspirators.
Immediately following the verdict, Sher’s supporters let out a gasp. Some began crying.
Sher, 31, was one of three young Muslim men arrested and charged with terrorism-related activity on Aug. 26, 2010, after a massive RCMP investigation dubbed Project Samosa.
Ottawa hospital imaging specialist Misbahuddin Ahmed, 30, one of the co-accused, was found guilty last month of two out of three offences and is awaiting sentencing.

Following his arrest, it emerged that Montreal-born Sher had once tried out for the Canadian Idol TV show, singing a strained version of Avril Lavigne’s song Complicated and attempting to pull off a Michael Jackson Moonwalk. Speaking in a phoney accent, he told producers he was an immigrant from Pakistan when in fact he is a graduate of McGill University’s medical school.
Sher had not been on the Mounties’ radar until July 20, 2010, when he stopped for dinner at Ahmed’s on his way from Montreal to London where he was about to begin a $365,000-a-year job as a hospital pathologist.
The bulk of the Crown case against Sher was based on his dinner conversation with Ahmed and another man, which was being secretly recorded by sound probes the RCMP had planted in the apartment. The Mounties had been recording the conversations of the two other alleged co-conspirators and tailing them for at least six months.
Related
The Crown rejected the defence explanation that Sher was an innocent caught unwittingly in a net of terrorist intrigue and maintained he was a willing participant who had contributed money to the terrorist cause.
Sher admitted contributing $400 to a fund being gathered by his friend Ahmed but said it was intended for charitable use in Kurdistan — an explanation also given by Ahmed at his trial.
Sher testified that although Ahmed was a longtime friend from Montreal, he knew him only as a sports-loving guy who enjoyed soccer and hockey.
He had no clue that his friend had gone to the dark side
He had not met the second, allegedly radicalized co-conspirator, until the night of the July dinner – a claim that the Crown did not dispute.
But lawyer Michael Edelson told the judge that Ahmed and the third man, whose name is currently protected by a publication ban, had attempted to groom Sher but he hadn’t taken them seriously.
“He had no clue that his friend had gone to the dark side,” he said.
Edelson spent much of the month-long trial pointing to errors in the RCMP’s transcript of the dinner conversation and attacking the lack of qualifications of the translators and transcribers.
Mom Creates Android App That Bricks A Kid's Phone Until They Call You Back
daniprettoi think this is fair. but i guess i'm more mom age than teenager now!
Sorry for missing you yesterday, I had to deal with some stuff. But you can rest assured international security was involved, and now you live in a much, much safer world. Mother Sharon Standifird was tired of texting and calling her children just to be ignored. So what did she do? Invented an android app that allows her to remotely brick their phones until they call her back. Mom, please, I'm on a date. You can tell me all about your trip to the grocery store later, just give me the password.
So after months of design and working with developers, "Ignore No more" was born. With one tap, a list of only parent-selected contacts come up. The child can call, get the password and unlock the phone. "Bradley needs to call me because I'm the person that has the unlock password," Standifird said. "It takes away texting, it takes away the gaming, it takes away calling their friends. The child will always be able to call 911," said Standifird.Whew, you can still call 911 -- that's a relief. And I suspect at least a 400% increase in 911 calls from children complaining their parents are being unfair. Hello, 911? She bricked my phone again. She's so mean sometimes. I'm just hanging out with my friends! Hello? What do you mean, "For real emergencies only?" Listen, are you going to send an officer to talk to her or not? Thanks to Thaylor H, who agrees you should always call your parents back immediately before the drugs and alcohol have time to take effect.
In Love With Lulu DK Jewelry Tattoos
daniprettothoughts? i'm on the fence.
I’m really in love with these Lulu DK jewelry tattoos which seem to be all the rage at the moment, so pretty and feminine… Especially in the summer when you’re showing more skin. Combined with a slight tan, these lovely tats from Lulu DK, who is designer Lulu deKwiatkowski whom you may remember from her frequent appearances in the old Domino issues, are stunners. I don’t talk much about jewelry on decor8 because I’m a total minimalist when it comes to bling, but these tats are definitely ones I’d love to wear. Have you tried them? What do you think?
In love!

Keep going for the video.Harmless protest or threat to public safety? Quebec city wants to force police officers to ditch outrageous pants
daniprettoyikes. those are pretty outrageous. especially the pink. makes them look useless and i would think undermines their authority. but perhaps it "empowers" them :)
If you’re a unionized police officer with no right to strike, you have to be creative when it comes to making your unhappiness known. In Quebec this summer, the pressure tactic of choice is outrageous pants.
Visitors to Montreal have been scratching their heads at the sight of police officers decked out in brightly coloured camouflage pants and red ball caps as they make traffic stops or offer directions.
They’re letting the steam off
For Montreal natives, the pants protest has become such a regular fixture that they barely notice when the officer handing out a ticket looks like a Rambo wannabe from the waist down.
Most municipalities targeted by the union protest over proposed reforms to municipal pension plans have chosen to look the other way rather than enforce the police dress code spelled out in provincial law. In Montreal, Mayor Denis Coderre has said he would bill the police brotherhood for the cost of removing protest stickers from cruisers and for overtime incurred after officers called in sick en masse one Saturday last month. But he has had nothing to say about the officers’ fashion sense.

“Up to now, public health and safety have not been threatened,” said Michel Grant, an associate professor of labour relations at Université du Québec à Montréal. “It’s not because a police officer is wearing pink pants that they won’t answer 911 calls within the required time. They’re letting the steam off.”
But on Thursday, the city of Sherbrooke broke with the pack and announced it had filed a grievance against the police union, seeking an arbitrator’s ruling that officers must respect their uniform requirements.
“For us, it’s a question of the image of the city and of the police service, considering the nature of their responsibilities. They are supposed to embody authority, law and order,” Serge Paquin, chairman of ’s executive committee, said in an interview. “I think dressing in multi-colour clothes like that does not tend to protect the image.”
The province-wide protest comes at a time when police officers can ill afford to project a clownish image. “In general, police services have more and more trouble having their authority respected by citizens,” he said, “and these tactics are not going to help them in establishing this authority.”

Robin Côté, president of Sherbrooke’s police union, said his members are being unfairly targeted. “We don’t understand why here in Sherbrooke it’s different,” he told Radio-Canada. “In other Quebec municipalities, where all municipal police officers are wearing camouflage pants or jeans, they don’t face any grievances.”
Unconventional trousers have been a protest tactic in Montreal going back to 2003 according to the brotherhood. The city has twice sought rulings from Quebec’s Essential Services Council that the camouflage pants endangered public safety.

At a 2009 hearing, the council heard testimony about police officers responding to calls who were mistaken for criminals because of their pants. One woman who had placed a 911 call about an assault refused to open her door when she saw the camouflage-wearing officers, forcing them to break a window to gain entry. The city paid for the repairs.
At a 2008 hearing, the police chief argued that the camouflage pants conveyed an image of “combat and confrontation” that heightened tensions between the police and minority groups. In both cases, the council ruled that there was no evidence of a danger.

Alain Barré, a professor of industrial relations at Université Laval, said cities have tended to tolerate the police protests. Even though officers who flout the uniform rules are clearly in the wrong, he said, suspending them would simply force cities to spend more on overtime for replacements.
He questioned whether the police tactics, which have also included splattering their cruisers in mud, are effective as they lobby against a provincial bill that will require workers and municipalities to equally shoulder the cost of covering a $3.9-billion deficit in municipal pension plans.
“In all public-sector negotiations, in any collective bargaining textbook, you are told it is crucial to have the support of public opinion,” he said. “And I do not believe the pressure tactics being used now by the unions are the right ones to get public support.”
Even so, the police unions’ flair for fashion statements seems to be spreading. La Presse reported Thursday that Montreal’s unionized white-collar workers are stepping up their own pressure tactics. Beginning next week, the union is instructing its workers to show up for work in sweat pants or pyjama bottoms.

What 200 Calories Of Food Actually Looks Like (INFOGRAPHIC)
daniprettoaustria #2 is interesting
An infographic by news site Evoke.ie, tries to make sense of calories by looking at how some of our favourite foods add up to 200 calories. For example, 588 grams of green broccoli and 51 grams of multicoloured gummy bears both equal to 200 calories. Moral of the story? Stick with the healthy stuff to fill you up.
Calories are units of energy found in the food and drinks we consume on a regular basis. Health Canada recommends adult males between the ages of 31 and 50 with sedentary levels of activity should have about 2,350 calories a day. Women in the same age group on the other hand, should consume around 1,800 calories a day.
Calories are either burned off when we exercise to produce energy or stored as fat, notes the graphic. Easy ways to burn off 200 calories include going to a 37 minute dance party or playing an hour of bowling.

Help Stop The Killing of Wolves: Boycott Discovery Channel’s Ridiculous “Man-Eating Super Wolves”
daniprettoand their "submarine" shark special. a lot of stories for a "science" station :(
Back in May, the Animal Planet channel was set to screen a ridiculous piece of clap trap posing as a documentary entitled, “Man-Eating Super Wolves.” The production purports that wolf numbers have grown so large that the animals will soon be hunting people living in subdivisions: the kind of scaremongering hyperbole that gets at-risk populations of wolves killed for no valid reason. A public campaign against the screening was successful in getting the program pulled from Animal Planet, but now the Discovery Channel Canada has decided to screen it this coming Sunday 24 August, 2014. If you would like to add your voice to the campaign to stop this screening, read on for details.

Hunting protected animals with semi-automatic weapons, running over animals with jeeps, and torturing animals before killing them; it sounds too horrible to be true – but a shocking new video shows that a company called Green Mile Safari allowed its clients to do all of the above. The terrible montage of animal abuse is so bad that the Dallas Safari Club sent a letter to Tanzania’s minister of natural resources and tourism stating that “without question, the video depicts some of the most abhorrent displays of unethical hunting behavior and animal abuse ever recorded.”

As much as I love things that levitate (I'm looking at you, magician's assistant!), I had to pass. I have two cats. Two very CURIOUS cats (they only have three lives left between the two of them).
