haha its so funny how he just harasses her at work where she’s not allowed to end the conversation
Okay. We’re going to sit down and have a talk.
I work in customer support, and 99% of my job is interacting directly with customers. In an average week, I have around 300 live chats with customers. This is just chat, this doesn’t count emails or phone support.
In the year and a half since I’ve been in my current job, I have: repeatedly been called a bitch and a cunt; been told to go fuck myself and to fuck off; been explicitly propositioned for sexual favors; I have been repeatedly harassed by at least two men who describe to me in detail the state of their genitals; have had multiple customers pretend to have medical emergencies/pretend to be dying; have heard basically every disgusting thing you can think of regarding bodily functions, and then some.
Do I enjoy those chats when I get them? No. But do you know what I really, really dread? The kinds of chats that really stress me out? It’s chats like the one in the pictures.
It’s chats in which the customers aren’t being explicitly awful. Where their harassment is mild, conversations that, on the surface, are downright pleasant. Because every time I end a chat of this nature, every time I make the decision to ban a customer from our chat service, I have to defend it. I have to go to my employer and explain to them why I think a customer acted inappropriately enough that I refused to help them potentially spend money on our service or product.
And it’s so, so hard to explain this kind of harassment, the kind of menace these chats communicate. William Holcomb up there, he doesn’t care that I’m a person, because to him I’m not. I’m not a person he’s ‘flirting’ with - I’m very far away, so far away in fact that I’m an object. I’m an easy target. He knows that as long as he isn’t too obvious, he can keep me on chat and play whatever game he came to play. He knows he has power over me that I don’t want him to have.
Now, I’m lucky. My current employer is wonderful about these kinds of situations, and gives me the latitude to act on my best judgement. But I’m still working for a company that’s trying to make a profit, and that’s in the back of my mind whenever situations like this pop up, which is not infrequently. And I haven’t always worked for companies who cared about their employees in this way. Lots of CS agents don’t either.
This is not flirting, and it isn’t funny. This is harassment, of someone who can’t really tell you to stop.
Romani people exist okay? We exist, and we experience
racism, and prejudice and fucking casual hatred and erasure and constant, never
ending microaggressions and if you are a white activist I can almost guarantee
you are not fucking helping.
Stop giving the total number of Holocaust victims as six
million, it was nearly twice that. Better yet, just stop using the Holocaust as
a rhetorical device in general if you’re not Jewish or Romani.
But okay fine you wanna talk about the Holocaust? Lets talk
about the fucking Holocaust.
Did you know entire dialects of our language went extinct
because everyone who spoke them was killed?
Did you know Romani children were the favorites of the Nazi
scientists for experimentation because they were easily bribed with chocolate
and toys? Josef Mengele (May he burn in every afterlife) sewed two four-year-old
twin children together, back to back. Their names were Guido and Ida and their own
mother had to kill them out of mercy.
Non-romani and non-Jewish people need to stop comparing what
is happening to the Holocaust because guess what? You don’t understand our fear.
You don’t understand how we’re feeling. I watched the fucking president sign an
order to ban Muslim people from entering this country and now I cant stop
having nightmares about brown triangles and fucking gas chambers.
and you do not
know how this feels, you do not understand the visceral cultural memory that
exists in ever Jewish and Romani person; I guarantee you do not get it.
In Mississippi you can still fine a Rom for moving to your
county. Texas law refer to Prostitutes, Vagabonds and G*psies in the same
breath and fines all of them $500 for existing in public. In Pennsylvania it is
illegal to even be Romani without a license. A license to exist, a license to
be allowed to be alive. And that’s just in the U.S, where I live. Romani
children in Europe still go to segregated
fucking schools
And I don’t have an Instagram anymore because I was sick of
seeing white girls appropriate my culture and call themselves g*psies as if it wasn’t
a slur, insisting that they just love my culture so much and yet none of them are
willing to defend me against the Nazis who want to finish killing my people
I wonder if my survival will be predicated on how happy I can
keep my racist white family. I wonder if they will be the ones who turn me in.
I look at every white person around me insisting that we need to give Trump a
chance and all can see is their backs turning on me when everything goes to
shit.
I cant even go shopping without seeing t-shirt slapped with
racial slurs, watching businesses being built atop my people graves, see our
suffering reduced to an aesthetic, as if Romani aren’t still forcefully
sterilized when they go to the hospital for cold medicine
Are you fucking listening? Do you understand what I’m
telling you? I’m not a prop, im not an aesthetic, im not fucking Halloween
costume, im a real actual person whose people are suffering I am so fucking sick of leftists and
so-called activists who refuse to acknowledge that Romani people even exist,
let alone try to, gods forbid, help us.
The only gadje I ever see defend Romani people are Jewish
people. And that’s great, Jewish people thank you, but why are the only gadje
who care about us getting murdered by Nazis the one’s who are also getting murdered by Nazis?
Stop talking about fucking “peaceful transitions of power”
and “don’t fight hate with hate” and “if you punch Nazis you’re just as bad”
stop fucking telling Jewish and Romani people they are just as bad as the
monsters who fucking slaughtered millions of their people
Fucking hell I don’t even know what the point of this post
is im just so fucking done with your
shitty activism and your half-assed defenses and your “listen to both sides of
the argument even if one side is LITERAL NAZIS” nonsense and your refusal to
listen when people call you out on your bullshit im just done
“The main thing that Trump supporters are excited about, now that he’s president? Is that finally, at LOOOOOONG LAST, all of the awful things they want to say, that used to lose them friends and jobs and marriages? They’re EXCITED about potentially getting to say them with ZERO repercussions. Just like Trump did. All the way into the White House. All the way into unlimited, forever power to spew any awful shit that comes to your head and no one dares correct you, rolls their eyes, or punches you in the nose.”
“Trump has never run any large organization. He’s not very bright and he’s got psychological problems. So, he had no idea that he needed to hear from experts other than his little handpicked cadre of weirdos. That he now knows this isn’t going to help things. He is, in George W. Bush’s famous words, “the decider.” But he doesn’t have the capacity to weigh the facts independently and he doesn’t really trust anyone but his family, none of whom know anything either. So, the decision making will continue to be Trump running the world by the seat of his pants which he believes has been shown to be infallible because he’s now the president.”
What, y'all though he understood about the branches of government?
On Friday, in the broadest such ruling so far, U.S. District Court Senior Judge James L. Robart ordered a temporary nationwide end to significant parts of the Trump regime’s Muslim ban. For now, anyone with a U.S. visa or green card can fly into the United States just as they could before. The Department of Homeland Security announced Saturday that it will immediately comply with the judge’s ruling. See commentary here by First Amendment.
Pr*sident Trump's order was directed at citizens of Sudan, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Iran, Iraq and Yemen. Trump called Robart’s judgment “ridiculous” and on Saturday morning tweeted:
x
The opinion of this so-called judge, which essentially takes law-enforcement away from our country, is ridiculous and will be overturned!
No "so-called." Judge Robart is a GWB appointee who was confirmed 99-0. We are watching closely your contempt for our Judicial Branch. https://t.co/k1La1mPlHj
@ impeachment folks, February 19th 2017 is your last day to get this shit done and still break William Henry Harrison’s record for shortest presidential term
If we’re going to impeach Trump though, we need to impeach Pence as well while we’re at it because THAT’S who gets the presidency if Trump is impeached.
Don’t get me wrong here, I’m in agreement with you and I support what you’re saying, but it is also important to note that impeaching both Trump and Pence would leave us with President Paul Ryan, which wouldn’t be all that different from President Mike Pence. The fact that the line of succession is, at the moment, five republicans deep, should not deter us from the fact that it’s absolutely necessary that Donald Trump be immediately impeached, convicted, removed from office in disgrace, and legally barred from holding any future public post as quickly as possible. Pence and Ryan are both absolutely vile, wretched, pathetic excuses for human beings, but they would be doing a lot less damage if their Nazi Figurehead Boss didn’t have a death grip on the world’s largest mouthpiece. I agree that both Trump and Pence should be removed from office as quickly and as disgracefully as possible (through legal channels, of course) but given the choice between Trump and Pence, I’d say Pence is about 1% less unspeakably evil (although still unspeakably evil) and I’d trade an arm and a leg to choose Pence over Trump at this point.
It’s been pointed out that, venal as Pence is, he doesn’t have the popularity, or, more accurately, the NOTORIETY, to BEGIN to get away with the shit that Trump has been pushing for the last two weeks.
This fascist movement is like every other: it’s deeply invested in the Myth of the Strong Leader, and even if removing Lord Dampnut from office were merely a symbolic act (instead of taking the baseball bat away from the petulant, unpredictable child in the throes of a constant tantrum), that symbolic act will be immensely powerful against the fascist myth-complex.
The other thing people forget is that if Trump gts impeached, then a line is drawn. Pence knows that if he goes THAT far, he gets removed from office too. The rest of the Executive Branch knows not to support him. The Rule of Law is re-established. “Don’t Impeach Trump because Pence is just as bad” completely misses the point of Impeachment, which is to establish that the other two branches of the government have the power to reign in a runaway Executive.
Pence would still be bad, but he could not be nearly AS bad because Congress would have set a standard and demonstrated they’ll hold a President to it.
Impeach Trump, and you put the Fear of the People in Pence.
And honestly, who do you people think is behind a lot of Trump’s choices anyway?
Do you think it’s a coincidence that the populist rabble rouser has made universally ultra-conservative choices for every appointment?
Pence, Bannon, and people like him are already running things. They’re already handling whatever Trump doesn’t feel like handling.
If we impeach Trump, we strip away the populist mask and shine the spotlight directly on Pence. It will still be bad, but at least we’ll be looking in the right direction for the cause.
I feel like @larathia’s comment still applies best: two, or even three bosses does not mean we don’t take the boss out it just means WE KNOW THERE’S ANOTHER BOSS TO DEAL WITH AFTERWARDS.
It's good that there are so many people willing to help individuals, since we live in a society that isn't willing to do what's needed to help everybody.
The good stuff! Check out more pics like these here and here.
There’s a lot of negative posts going around, not intentionally negative but highlighting the issues at hand - they are doing their job, but let’s not forget the light and the good that still prevails. And it does - I promise you that - because, fundamentally, people are good.
OK, but seriously, her hair is superpowered, isn't it? Like sentient, and able to move around on its own?
Sometimes people make mistakes. Often they are small and inconsequential, like putting skim in your java when you meant to go HAM on the half and half. Other times, they are slightly bigger, like incorrectly tweeting that Ariana Grande is pregnant from the account of a news organization when in fact, she is not. Yikes!
I know that the young Han Solo movie(s) will probably cover things like Han freeing Chewie, winning the Millennium Falcon from Lando, and making the Kessel run, but honestly what I want is an Always Sunny-like black comedy about him, Lando, and Chewie partaking in a series of increasingly bizarre and morally dubious get-rich-quick scheme because that’s genuinely what I see him doing before that fateful day in the cantina.
Donald Trump has been president for two weeks, and he is already facing dozens of lawsuits over White House policies and his personal business dealings. That’s far more than his predecessors faced in their first days on the job. The lawsuits started on Inauguration Day, and they haven’t let up.
Most of the 50-plus lawsuits filed so far relate to the travel ban on refugees and nationals from seven mostly-Muslim countries that Trump ordered on Jan. 27. They were filed in 17 different states by doctors, professors, students, people fleeing violence and Iraqis who have worked for the U.S. military. Some were detained in American airports for hours over the weekend; others were barred overseas from boarding planes bound for the U.S. Two Syrian brothers with visas to enter the country say they were turned around at Philadelphia International Airport and sent back to Damascus.
