Robots are so stupid, guys. They’re such a bad idea! It’s like a gang of scientists got together and said, “You know what would be great? How about a whole scientific branch dedicated to designing soulless metal sociopaths!” What possible application could robots have? If it’s things people can already do, what’s the point! If it’s things people can’t do… well, then we’re gleefully speeding our species toward being utterly obsolete. It’s like scientists have never seen a sci-fi movie.

But then again… if it came down to being enslaved and murdered by a robot or churning butter on a farming commune, well, I’d probably rather be murdered.

Good morning! Here’s a comic for today. Right now we’re working on a handful of fun things, including a (short) new short that should be ready in the near future, so keep refreshing the page until we either post new stuff or your constant refreshing causes our server to catch fire and our site crashes and burns into oblivion. Either way, the world will be better off and we appreciate the effort.

Those of you interested in electronic entertainment squares might already know this, but there’s a video game console war going on! In one corner there’s Microsoft and they want you to buy the Xbox One, which is a pristine graphite sphere that vibrates endlessly and whose sole output produces spiders. Then there’s Sony pushing their PlayStation 4, which is known for floating one foot off the ground and turning into a black hole when you whisper its True Name. And finally Nintendo’s Wii U, whose primary selling points are its controller (the howling skull of a dead king) and Mario Kart.

So choose wisely! If you get the wrong one you’ll feel awfully silly.

The name says it all. arbtt-record runs in background recording opened windows, their titles and active window.

Later you can use arbtt-stats to categorize, tag and display recorded data based on defined rules. Example file shows the possibilities, but you can get interesting information with only a few rules.

I can tell how much time I spent in tools I use for my work, what applications I use most and how much time I wasted on teh internetz. Pretty nice, huh?

pro tips

• arbtt is written in haskell! If your distro doesn’t package arbtt, I recommend installing using cabal-install.
• Your window manager must set EWMH hints. For XMonad, use XMonad.Hooks.EwmhDesktops.
• Don’t forget to start arbtt-record with your X session.
• Tags and categories are processed by arbtt-stats, you don’t ever need to wipe your data when rules change. So start arbtt-record right now and create rules later.
