LONDON — The wealthiest 1% of the world will soon own more than the rest of the planet's population, according to a new report from the charity Oxfam.

The study shows that the proportion of the world's wealth owned by the richest 1% increased from 44% in 2009 to 48% in 2014, and Oxfam says it expects that to increase to more than 50% by 2016.

The news comes just days ahead of the World Economic Forum, which sees political and business leaders from around the world convene in Davos, Switzerland.

Winnie Byanyima, Oxfam's executive director, is set to co-chair the event, and wants to use the charity's role to highlight inequality and demand action. She said the scale of global inequality was "simply staggering" in a statement. Read more...

A recent trend on RTE (Irish TV) chat shows - random audience members turning to stare into the cameras during audience cut-aways.

We’re very confused.

At first, we were all ready to say, “Okay, this looks like something for a sophisticated toddler, but she’s pregs, so…”

Except she had the baby a month ago. Which, fine; if she wants something loose and comfortable, no criticisms will be issued forth from these two queens’ mouths for going that route. Doesn’t mean we love the dress on her (we don’t), but we suppose we can understand the need for it at this postpartum time.

But then she wore this:

Which we like a lot on her, but it makes us wonder why she chose that awful silhouette earlier.

We heard about Rosamund for a long time before we started really paying attention to her, and one of the things we always heard from her fans was how stylish she is. But while we think she makes considered choices with her style, we can’t say we ever really get what she’s going for. She could use a little image streamlining and consistency, we’re thinking.

Zachary Quinto at 2014 ACRIA’S holiday dinner benefit at Skylight Modern in New York City.

For too long, Zachary has been letting the gays down with his awkwardly fitted hipsterwear which rarely ever did him any good. But except for the shirt cuffs, which we should be seeing peeking out, this is just about perfectly fitted. And the colors look really great on him. He’s like 11 feet tall, so we figure this must have been quite a striking look in person.

But perhaps the following is more to your tastes:

Zachary Quinto is spotted walking his dogs in New York City.

The trucker hat makes us sad, but his raggedy little buddies are winning us over. That little one’s got an attitude.
