MojoKid writes: It's long been a pet peeve of many end users that Microsoft has made it such a challenge to procure a legitimate ISO image of its various operating systems. It seems like the company should have no problem offering them in an easy-to-find spot on its website, because after all, it's not like they can be taken utilized without a legal key. Sometimes, people simply lose the disc or ISO they had, and so it shouldn't be such a challenge to get a replacement. Fortunately, with a new feature on the Microsoft site, you are now able to get that replacement Windows 7 ISO. However, it's behind a bit of protection. You'll need to provide your legal product code, and then the language, in order to go through to the download page. If you've somehow lost your key but are still using the OS that it's tied to, you can retrieve it through a few different third party tools. However, it does seem like not all valid keys work properly just yet, since some users are reporting valid keys throwing errors or not enabling a download for some reason.

Some conservatives opposed the bill because it left out provisions to block executive actions President Barack Obama took on immigration, which Republicans have vowed to overturn. House leaders tried to win lawmakers over arguing a three-week extension bought them more time to fight Obama while his immigration directives are on old in court. But conservatives abandoned the bill in droves and Democrats refused to make up the difference, pressing for a full-year funding bill instead.

Russian opposition leader Boris Nemtsov has been shot dead on a Moscow street close to the Kremlin, in what may be a gangland-style hit.

The killing of the 55-year-old Nemtsov, a liberal former deputy prime minister, and among the few remaining Russian politicians to remain a vocal opponent of president Vladimir Putin, occurred in Moscow early Saturday (Feb. 28) local time. Meduza, a Russian website, said that Nemtsov was shot by several assailants who emerged from a car. This is a live feed from the murder scene, where police, journalists, and bystanders are congregating:

Further details are sparse. But in Russia, few people own guns—generally, it is government security personnel, and gangs. So when people are murdered with firearms, particularly when they are prominent figures like politicians, notable businessmen, or journalists, it is an ordered execution. Whoever ordered the death is virtually never identified, nor the precise reason for the hit.

Among those who have died this way were journalists Anna Politkovskaya, who was shot in the elevator of her home in 2006, and Paul Klebnikov, who was shot in the back on the street in 2004.

Such murders often go unsolved because of the interwoven nature of criminality and Russian officialdom. In the Politkovskaya case, for instance, it was established that one of the killers was with the FSB, the Russian security agency. But the trail went cold after that; no higher-ups were ever fingered. Experts I spoke to for my book Putin’s Labyrinth: Spies, Murder, and the Dark Heart of the New Russia told me that no Russian gang will carry out the murder of a high-profile figure absent a signal of approval from senior levels of government.

Two weeks previously, Nemtsov had told (link in Russian) a Russian news website, Sobesednik.ru, that he feared Putin might order his murder. Update: Putin himself has responded to the killing (Russian) through his spokesman, saying it “has all the hallmarks of a contract killing and is of a purely provocational nature.”

Last summer, the discovery of several new giant craters in Siberia drew worldwide interest, launching wild speculation that meteorites, or even aliens, caused the gaping crevasses. And now, scientists have found even more of them. In July 2014, reindeer herders discovered a 260-feet-wide (80 meters) crater in northern Russia's Yamal Peninsula. Later that month, two more craters were discovered in the Tazovsky district and Taymyr Peninsula (also spelled Taimyr), respectively. Now, satellite images have revealed at least four more craters, and at least one is surrounded by as many as 20 mini craters, The Siberian Times reported.

Last week, Night Dive founder Stephen Kick and director of business development Larry Kuperman emailed me to let me know that while they had indeed planned to re-release No One Lives Forever and its sequel, they'd hit a wall and been forced to give up. Thanks to the ongoing inability and/or unwillingness of three publishers—Activision, 20th Century Fox, and in particular Warner Bros.—to determine who owned the game, Night Dive is currently abandoning its efforts to revive No One Lives Forever.

Two weeks ago, we told you about how a fire that destroyed a building in Houston's Quba Islamic Institute was likely the result of arson. Sure enough, authorities arrested Darryl Ferguson, a 55-year-old homeless man for setting the fire. According to KHOU 11 News, police say Ferguson made anti-Muslim comments to a local store clerk. That means he could be charged with a hate crime. But Quba's leadership has declined to pursue charges against Ferguson. Here's assistant imam Ahsan Zahid's explanation:

According to the Houston Chronicle, Ferguson is being held without bond. If convicted of first-degree arson, he faces life in prison--which the Quba Islamic Institute opposes.

As part of their Secret Wars event this May, all major Marvel comics universes are colliding into one big mish-mash called Battleworld, and what better time to revive some properties that seemed to have faded into obscurity? Today, Marvel announced news that made me run around my living room shrieking like only a fangirl can: they’re bringing back Runaways.

One of my all-time favorite Marvel comics and a great entry into the Marvel universe, the original Runaways came to us from some of the greatest minds in comics, including Brian K. Vaughan, Adrian Alphona (currently the artist on Ms. Marvel), and even Joss Whedon. In this highly-underrated series, a group of teens discover that their parents are members of a collective of supervillains called The Pride, and band together to take their folks down. The book has an incredible cast of female characters (including girls with divers sexualities, races, and body types), and one of them even has a pet velociraptor. You can also find cameos from lots of familiar Marvel faces, like Captain America, which makes the journey into other Marvel comics a little easier.

What makes this good news into great news is that the new Secret Wars Runaways will be penned by none other than Lumberjanes‘ Noelle Stevenson, with art by Sanford Greene of Uncanny Avengers. Stevenson said that her comic will involve lots of established teens from the Marvel universe comprising a new, unique team of “rough and rowdy punk[s].” According to Stevenson, “They’re a group who wouldn’t necessarily choose to hang out with each other under normal circumstances—and actually outright hate each other in a few cases—but end up having to work together to survive and find out that they have more in common than they thought.”

The new Runaways will all attend a school together in Battleworld—but everything it not as it seems. “A lot of emphasis is placed on being the strongest and coming out on top no matter what,” Stevenson said, “and aggression, competition, ruthlessness and obedience are prized, so some of these kids are pretty messed up by that.” Instead of supervillain parents, it’s their supervillain headmaster against which they’ll be rebelling. “It’s [about] reevaluating how you were raised and the people who raised you and deciding what it actually is you want for yourself outside of that,” she explained.

Here’s a variant cover for the first issue (Noto!), and some excellent concept art from Greene for some of the series’ characters. It looks like we’re getting Skaar, Cloak, Dagger, Jubilee, Amadeus Cho, and a brand-new character named Sanna.

We already know Nico Minoru will be a major team member on G. Willow Wilson and Marguerite K. Bennett’s all-female Battleworld Avengers team, A-Force, but it’s amazing to know we might get to see the rest of the old gang, too. Stevenson’s new Runaways series will debut in June – but before then, go ahead and pick up Volume One of Runaways: The Complete Collection to catch up on all the goodness. You won’t be disappointed.
