the unfortunate man says FML

by the unfortunate man

Today, I was using the urinal when another guy came in. His friends decided to scare him while he was using the urinal next to mine. They jumped out at him, he turned around and ended up peeing all over me. FML

Not all girls are dedicated enough to be "overly" attached. That's not the way to make sure your man stays with you.

Why Doesn't Skype Protect You Against Eavesdropping?

by Jamie Condliffe

Why Doesn't Skype Protect You Against Eavesdropping?

Skype has long claimed to be "end-to-end encrypted", an architectural category that suggests conversations over the service would be difficult or impossible to eavesdrop upon, even given control of users' Internet connections. But Skype's 2005 independent security review admits a caveat to this protection: "defeat of the security mechanisms at the Skype Central Server" could facilitate a "man-in-the-middle attack" (see section 3.4.1). Essentially, the Skype service plays the role of a certificate authority for its users and, like other certificate authorities, could facilitate eavesdropping by giving out the wrong keys.

Rappers’ claimed wealth versus actual wealth

by Nathan Yau

Actual rapper wealth

Allison McCann for Businessweek graphed rappers' claimed wealth in their songs versus their actual wealth.

Fresh off of Jay-Z's new album is the track Versus, on which he chides fellow hip-hop artists and their dubious tales of extraordinary wealth: "The truth in my verses, versus, your metaphors about what your net worth is." Like Jay-Z, we’ve long been skeptical of just how wealthy some hip-hop stars claim to be, so we created a way to separate the truly rich from the loud-mouth lyricists.

As you'd expect, some rappers tend to exaggerate. Speaking of which, this seems like a good time to revisit the map that shows the area codes where Ludacris claims to have hoes. Unfortunately, there is no data to verify or debunk.

9 Prankster Parents Who Ruined Their Kids' Day

by Molly Horan
Sad-little-girl
Feed-twFeed-fb

Kids are naturally trusting, especially when it comes to their parents. Sometimes said adults just have to take advantage of that wide-eyed faith by filming their own low budget episodes of Punk'd.

Hopefully, they gave their kids a fun ice-breaker anecdote, and not life long physiological scars.

1. The mom who taught her children to think ahead.

2. The parents who decided to punish more creatively.

3. The mom who couldn't control her hunger.

4. The dad who might have ruined his kids' entire month.

Build Your Own Portable Raspberry Pi Emulation Machine

The Raspberry Pi is a fantastic little low-powered device that can do all sorts of things, and we've certainly seen our share of video game related projects for it. This one, from Instructables user Zaqq, takes it above and beyond, and turns the Pi into a completely portable retro game center.

Ubisoft is focusing on games that are always online

by Brett Makedonski

Next-generation consoles may have already abandoned their plans for required online connections, but Ubisoft hasn't necessarily. Its short-term strategy gravitates toward open-world games, and with that comes the supposed need for constant Internet connections.

Julian Gerighty, a creative director at Ubisoft, told Polygon about the company's creative process. According to Gerighty, every Ubisoft title has a meeting with the editorial department, which helps to highlight systems that may work best for the game. Right now, this department is deeply passionate about open-world experiences. It's the reason that the likes of Assassin's Creed IV, Watch Dogs, and Tom Clancy's The Division will all share similar open-world characteristics.

Alongside the enthusiastic drive toward open-world games comes the company's aspiration of blending the single- and multiplayer experiences, which more or less will require a constant Internet connection. Gerighty believes that this is the way to achieve "open, living worlds," and that the entire industry will move in this direction soon enough.

Maybe Ubisoft genuinely believes that players want always online games. Regardless of if that's true or not, it's increasingly obvious that even if Sony and Microsoft won't enforce requiring a constant Internet connection, the publishers will.

This App Makes Coloring Books Come to Life

by Emily Price
Colar
Feed-twFeed-fb

The coloring book has just gone high-tech.

Mobile app colAR takes traditional 2D coloring pages and then turns them into 3D models that literally jump off the page. Unlike any coloring experience you’ve had before, the app makes the things you color come to life with animation that seems to bring the otherwise generic drawings to life.

Armed with a 96-box of Crayola’s and some imagination, I gave the app a try.

Unbelievably Simple

colors2

Did you know they have colored metallic crayons? I sure didn’t. Out of the crayon game for a while now, picking the colors for the plane picture I colored for our test was an exceptionally difficult proposition, also the hardest part of using the colAR app. Read more...

This Personal Alarm Weaponizes Your House Key

by Andrew Liszewski

This Personal Alarm Weaponizes Your House Key

A self-defense course will teach you how to use your keys as a weapon, but in practice, when you're under attack and panicking, protecting yourself with a keyring isn't as easy as it sounds. So the Hit, from Unikia, combines a loud audible panic alarm with a pop-up holder that turns a key into a switchblade that's easier to wield as a weapon.

NSA Admits Searching "3 Hops" From Suspects

by timothy
New submitter cpitman writes "In a house hearing Wednesday the NSA admitted that it could query not only a suspect's records, but also perform up to a 'three hop query'. Considering that most people in the world are separated by under 6 degrees of separation, the NSA essentially claims that any single suspect gives them rights to investigate a large chunk of the world's population. With the terror watch list having over 700,000 names, just how many times has Kevin Bacon been investigated?"

The Complete Visual History of Wolverine's Suit

Oh, that yellow spandex with beautiful blue trunks. As classic as that suit was, I have no beef with Wolverine's badassery tossing that away in the movies (plus, with a body like Hugh Jackman's...). But still, it's nice to see the Wolverine we all loved as a child again. Here's the full history of all the suits that Wolverine has ever worn.

Android and iOS users will cite thousands of reasons of why they have issues with the competing mobile operating system: user interface, battery life — the list goes on. But in reality, there's only one thing that separates the two rivals: money

In this comic, Scott Johnson of ExtraLife points out that iOS and Android users have very different opinions when it comes to being charged for apps
