Por muitos anos a reimaginação de Resident Evil, o primeiro game da franquia permaneceu um título exclusivo do GameCube, assim como o então totalmente inédito Resident Evil Zero, um prequel lançado para o console de 128 bits da Nintendo no mesmo ano que o remake, em 2002.

Agora, 12 anos a Capcom finalmente escutou o clamor de inúmeros fãs e está trazendo o game para as novas (e antigas) plataformas, totalmente remodelado.

A desenvolvedora japonesa tratou o remake de Resident Evil com cuidado: os gráficos foram todos tratados e contarão com texturas mais detalhadas, e nos consoles da atual geração e PCs o game terá suporte a 1080p e com 5.1 (mesmo com alguns probleminhas que o console da Microsoft apresenta). Já no PS3 e Xbox 360 a resolução será apenas 720p, mas comparado ao ue vimos originalmente no GameCube, ainda será um ganho e tanto.

A Capcom tomou cuidado para que o remake não cause estranhamento nos jogadores mais novos da franquia, acostumados com controles mais dinâmicos: a movimentação “tanque” estará lá para os saudosistas, entretanto um modo moderno também poderá ser selecionado, onde o controle se comporta como visto nos jogos mais recentes: o personagem vai para onde o controle apontar. Não obstante, Resident Evil Remake poderá ser jogado tanto em 16:9 quanto em 4:3, para quem quer extrair o máximo do fator saudosismo. No modo widescreen o game contará com scroll dinâmico, movendo a câmera de acordo com o deslocamento do personagem. Em modo clássico a câmera é fixa.

Só falta agora a Capcom anunciar o port HD de Resident Evil Zero, esse sim até hoje completamente exclusivo para o GameCube. A versão HD do remake de Resident Evil estará disponível para PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS3 e Xbox 360 no início de 2015 no Japão por 3.990 ienes (cerca de US$ 38,82), somente via distribuição digital. Nada foi dito sobre o lançamento ocidental ou se o game trará conteúdo inédito.
