not to get all up in the “hatin’ on change” bandwagon, but….

why doesn’t the tumblr team actually ask what we, the end-users, want to have as enhancements?

why are they giving us this other garbage instead of what we’ve determined, as the actual users of the system, would be of most value to improve the experience here?

i’m asking this as a 16-year veteran of user experience design and as a designer who relentlessly polls her user base to make sure i’m building the best experience possible.

you know where our best enhancements come from on my project? user support email. it’s all right there, right in front of us… and likely in front of tumblr too.

was there some overwhelming support mail deluge that suggested we needed animated flying hearts? really?

love you tumblr, but you’re doing this part wrong.

Mojito Jello Shots

Did you ever think you'd see jello shots on the blog? Ok, ok, but hear me out. These are so fun! I'm a sucker for jello inside a citrus rind! Get me every time. My soon to be sister-in-law made these really cute blue jello in orange rind snacks for my nephew's pirate themed birthday party. They were just jello, not jello shots. Just for the record. :)I made these for a little get-together at my house last weekend, and they went over really well. These are the perfect amount of lime and mint, in my opinion. They are very fun and refreshing. Add the rum if you want, or leave it out and just enjoy your cute jello creations. Either way these are worth the effort it takes to make a batch. Here's what you do:Mojito jello shots, makes around 32 if using lime rinds. Adapted from Food & Wine.

1 cup water
1 cup sugar
3 envelopes unflavored gelatin
3/4 cup fresh lime juice
3 stems fresh mint leaves
1 cup white rum

In a pot, combine the water and sugar over medium heat and stir until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and stir in the gelatin. Add the lime juice and 2 mint stems (with leaves). Allow that to steep for 12-15 minutes. Remove the mint stems and stir in the rum if using.In the meantime hollow out your lime shells. This is probably the hardest part of making these. I used a small sharp knife to carve around the inside of the limes and then a mellon baller to scoop out the centers. If the insides don't look perfect don't worry! Mine looked far from perfect. Be sure to leave the limes cut in halves until after the jello has set, then you can slice them into wedges.

Fill each lime shell with the jello mixture and sprinkle in some chopped fresh mint (from the remaining leaves on that 3rd stem). Place in the refrigerator and allow to set for at least 3 hours.These are a fun little party trick! I think I'm going to make these ahead of time for the next camping trip I go on. I'm going to be that girl who pulls out a tupperware of jello shots. Ha! Oh well, at least they are the cutest and most delicious little jello shots. That ups the classy factor, right? :) xo. Emma

amongst my bajillion tabs that are open, so i started there this evening.

i have no idea how long it’s been open. i have a few of these open tumblr instances, various states of “i’ll leave this here and get back to it, hate to miss anything…”

The Free Little Library by Stereotank New York libraries books

Recently installed in New York’s Nolita neighborhood the Free Little Library is a temporary outdoor shelving unit that functions as a free library. The clever design protects the books from the weather while allowing people to duck under a cover to see what’s available. The library was designed by Venezuelan design firm Stereotank as part of a collaboration with the Architectural League of New York and the Pen World Voices Festival who have selected 10 designers to build miniature free libraries in downtown Manhattan through September. Can’t wait to see the rest. (via designboom)
