Next PlayStation 4 update adds video editing software

by Cassandra Khaw

While over seven million Playstation 4 units have been sold, the upcoming v1.70 release will be the console's first major system software update. Sony Computer Entertainment is introducing a video editor application called SHAREfactory with the next update. SHAREfactory will allow PS4 owners to stitch together gameplay footage and customize them with text, transitions, filters and so forth. Users will also be able to add video commentary with the help of the PlayStation Camera and import their own music for use. SHAREfactory videos can be shared through Facebook or exported to an external USB storage device.

The v1.70 update also includes the ability to switch off HDCP to allow for direct video capture and the removal of default saves for both screenshots and video clips. Additionally, the update will ship with an auto pre-download feature that, when enabled, will pre-download selected pre-ordered games up to days in advance. Sony Computer Entertainment has not revealed a date for the v1.70 update.

The Biggest Clothing Swap in the Northwest

by Marjorie Skinner

I'm not gonna vet the claim that the clothing swap coming up on Sunday, April 27 is "the biggest" within a particular geographical area. It's big, you say? Good enough for me. I love a good closet purge; I'm a firm believer that clearing back the rubble to streamline and assess is just as important as adding to your wardrobe. So, all's you gotta do is round up want, need (or fit!)—clean with no holes or weird smells, please, and shoes and other accessories are also welcome. Your bag of discards and five bucks will get you in the door, where you can grab a cocktail while you judiciously peruse the options to trade in for.

Tor Blacklisting Exit Nodes Vulnerable To Heartbleed

by timothy
msm1267 (2804139) writes "The Tor Project has published a list of 380 exit relays vulnerable to the Heartbleed OpenSSL vulnerability that it will reject. This comes on the heels of news that researcher Collin Mulliner of Northeastern University in Boston found more than 1,000 nodes vulnerable to Heartbleed where he was able to retrieve plaintext user traffic. Mulliner said he used a random list of 5,000 Tor nodes from the Dan.me.uk website for his research; of the 1,045 vulnerable nodes he discovered, he recovered plaintext traffic that included Tor plaintext announcements, but a significant number of nodes leaked user traffic in the clear."

China's Terracotta Army Will Make an Appearance in Indianapolis

Since 1974, some 8,000 life-sized terracotta warriors have been discovered guarding the tomb of the First Emperor of China. Beginning May 10th, more than 100 artifacts from the army will be displayed at the Children's Museum of Indianapolis, the only stateside appearance of the warriors in 2014.

Houston bar aims for different crowd with comics, video games

With a name that gives a nod to a 19th-century physicist and a sign that features an olive within an atom, it’s a safe bet that Houston’s new Neil’s Bahr isn’t your run-of-the-mill drinking establishment. Instead, Eater reports, it’s a bar where patrons can browse the comic book library, read sci-fi novels in the comfy […]

"Square donuts have a 27% more donut per donut in the same space as a round one."

doncoyote:

tyleroakley:

entropiaorganizada:

hookteeth:

… Y’see, now, y’see, I’m looking at this, thinking, squares fit together better than circles, so, say, if you wanted a box of donuts, a full box, you could probably fit more square donuts in than circle donuts if the circumference of the circle touched the each of the corners of the square donut.

So you might end up with more donuts.

But then I also think… Does the square or round donut have a greater donut volume? Is the number of donuts better than the entire donut mass as a whole?

Hrm.

HRM.

A round donut with radius R1 occupies the same space as a square donut with side 2R1. If the center circle of a round donut has a radius R2 and the hole of a square donut has a side 2R2, then the area of a round donut is πR12 - πr22. The area of a square donut would be then 4R12 - 4R22. This doesn’t say much, but in general and  throwing numbers, a full box of square donuts has more donut per donut than a full box of round donuts.

The interesting thing is knowing exactly how much more donut per donut we have. Assuming first a small center hole (R2 = R1/4) and replacing in the proper expressions, we have a 27,6% more donut in the square one (Round: 15πR12/16 ≃ 2,94R12, square: 15R12/4 = 3,75R12). Now, assuming a large center hole (R2 = 3R1/4) we have a 27,7% more donut in the square one (Round: 7πR12/16 ≃ 1,37R12, square: 7R12/4 = 1,75R12). This tells us that, approximately, we’ll have a 27% bigger donut if it’s square than if it’s round.

tl;dr: Square donuts have a 27% more donut per donut in the same space as a round one.

Thank you donut side of Tumblr.

jakesus:

This is sparkle poi! Poi was created in New Zealand by the Maori people. It is the rhythmic spinning of weights on string. Modern versions include glow poi and sparkle poi. Glow poi uses LEDs or glowsticks to create colorful patterns, and sparkle poi uses lit steel wool. As the steel wool burns, parts fly off causing the effect seen above. I would guess a blue filter has been added, as it normally looks like this
