The Most Awesome Dining Table Ever + Some Stuff About Imperfection

by Jaime Derringer
THANKGODYOUREHERE

well im certainly not spending 2 grand on it, but i think its pretty sharp looking.

The Most Awesome Dining Table Ever + Some Stuff About Imperfection

I’m not a person who would ever use the word “rustic” to describe my style. I would probably never (never say never) buy something described as “barn style” or “farmhouse”. HOWEVER, you guys, I fell in love with a table. A rustic table. Made of old, funked up wood.

I’d been recently inspired by rooms with rustic barn or farm style tables paired with modern chairs and lighting, pinning tons of them to Pinterest and obsessing over finding the perfect imperfect table. I think the quirkiness and juxtaposition of the table vs chairs is what I find most appealing. In my last house, I felt like everything needed to be mid-century. In this house, there’s no character whatsoever to compete with—a truly blank slate. So, rather than settling in on one style, I want to get as eclectic as possible while still making everything feel like it’s perfectly placed.

Ashley Tonner for House & Home

I think that my navigation toward more mixed pieces and my acceptance of imperfect and mis-matched pieces has a lot to do with a journey I’m on in my personal life: I’m a recovering perfectionist. I’ve been working hard at combating it, but I never thought about its effects on my personal style or aesthetics… But after we moved out of the MCM house, I started thinking about where to go from here? It was as if a whole new world opened up to me and this new world of possibilities came with it—an opportunity to grow. I wanted to create an environment for myself that no longer needed intense overthinking and scrutiny. One where you could drop something and if it dented the floor, oh well. Or if there was a chip or a divot or a ding here, I could totally handle it. I wanted to be a “go with the flow” “no worries” “it’s all good” kind of person. However, moving into a new house was a challenge because it’s like having brand new white sneakers that you don’t want to get dirty—in fact, you don’t even want to wear them because you might mess them up. I had to get over that really quickly, being as though we have a two-year-old with sticky hands and dirty feet. So I did. There were some margaritas and lots of deep breathing. But, we got over the “newness”, made some scratches and dents, and eased into it, like breaking in a new pair of jeans. Moving away from the impossible bubble I lived in before and embracing the realness of my life, the reality of having a two-year-old, and the OK-ness of imperfection has made me a better person. Anyway, this is probably all TMI but ultimately, my design senses have changed as a result.

The Most Awesome Dining Table Ever + Some Stuff About Imperfection in interior design home furnishings Category

Enter the Farmhouse Salvaged Wood table from Restoration Hardware. It’s described as made of “unfinished, solid reclaimed pine timbers from 100-year-old buildings in Great Britain.” The “unfinished tabletop bears the patina of reclaimed wood and is accented with distinctive nicks and imperfections that speak of the wood’s age and provenance.”

My friend Michelle of Studio Surface recommended it to me and, at first, I didn’t like it because I had a gut reaction; It was very farmhouse-y. And very rustic. Upon second look, it was as if beams of light were coming out of my computer and the angels began to sing. A farmhouse table with nice clean modern lines—AND IT COMES IN BLACK! AND IT WAS ON SALE! Shut up and take my money. At first, we ordered the smallest size only to be superbly disappointed at how disproportionate it was; we’d completely underestimated the size of our dining space. Luckily, RH customer service was awesome about exchanging it, and so we ordered two sizes up and I couldn’t be happier. Bring on the dings, dents and scratches!

The Most Awesome Dining Table Ever + Some Stuff About Imperfection in interior design home furnishings Category

I know what all you die-hard modern purists are thinking – I can hear your groans from here. But just LOOK at this table. LOOK AT IT.

The Most Awesome Dining Table Ever + Some Stuff About Imperfection in interior design home furnishings Category

Sigh.

It already has a story to tell and I’m looking forward to adding to it.

Now, where do we go from here?

Peak MacBook Cover & Stand by Aecraft

by Leo Lei
THANKGODYOUREHERE

i liked the whole premise they were building until the exasperated hand on the head photo. it reminds me of the carrie from sex n the city head tilt she would always do when she was typing on her computer like a dog trying to understand something

Peak MacBook Cover & Stand by Aecraft

Peak is a minimalist design created by Belgium-based company Aecraft. Peak is unique in that the leather cover also serves as a small stand for the laptop, which pivots the screen and keyboard for added comfort, and improves the user’s overall posture. In addition, the stand increases airflow and allows the computer to breath, which prevents overheating.

Peak MacBook Cover & Stand by Aecraft in technology style fashion Category

The case snuggly fits the MacBook Air 13″ and MacBook Retina 13″, and features 100% imported natural South African Merino wool felt and premium Norwegian vegetable-tanned leather, which are then handmade in Belgium. The case features an easy snap-shut closure, with a lifted tab on the leather for easier accessibility.

The case is currently available in either a black vegetable-tanned leather, or a natural vegetable-tanned leather. A small emblem is stamped on the bottom right edge of the leather, while the rest of the case is kept as simple as possible.

two things: 1. i would feel awesome in that chair. and 2. i now like the look of girls wearing timbalands, which i dont think ive ever seen before

Get Cozy In the Q1 Lounge Chair by ODESD2

At first glance, this lounge chair just screams comfort. Designed by Ukrainian studio ODESD2, the Q1 lounge chair’s shape is inspired by Richard Buckminster Fuller’s spherical thin-shell structure, which is used for creating geodesic domes.

Get Cozy In the Q1 Lounge Chair by ODESD2 in home furnishings Category

Its dome-shape can hold heavy weights, while still staying visually light. The faceted exterior is pleasing to the eye, and reminds me a bit of the hard shell of a turtle. Inside, sitters are embraced by a soft, chenille upholstery that’s packed with an environmentally friendly filling.

Thanks to the newest iteration of the Godzilla franchise, there's been quite a bit of chatter recently about everyone's favorite giant, murderous lizard. But isn't being able to take on the beast a moot point if he can't technically exist in the first place? Thanks to a little help from science, Vsauce has our answer.

Rokude Nashiko’s art aims to breakdown taboos about female gentilia in Japan. Typically, female privates are discreetly referred to as “asoko” (“down there”), while the more descriptive “manko” (“pussy”) is seen as far more vulgar. Meanwhile, there are a tons of playful words for “penis” bandied about by kids and adults alike. Rokudenashiko says she also wants vaginas to be as “fun” and “pop” in Japan, too. Initially, Rokudenashiko hoped to row her vessel across Lake Geneva. She ended up rowing in the Tama River, between Tokyo and Kanagawa.

The 10 Best Stories In the Star Wars Expanded Universe

The Star Wars Expanded Universe is no more. In many cases; this is no big loss — some stories and characters are best tossed into a black hole and never spoken of again. But the EU had plenty of good stories, too — tales so good we're genuinely sad they'll lose whatever little canonization they had. Here are the 10 Expanded Universe books, comics and more that we'll miss the most.

Towering above cities and carved into mountainsides, the gargantuan statues captured in Fabrice Fouillet’s series Colosses were designed to dwarf everything in proximity, to stand as timeless monuments of religious and political icons. Though unlike the tourists and pilgrims who travel great distances to witness these towering structures up close, Fouillet is more interested in how the landscape around each monument has been transformed. He shares via his artist statement:

The series “Colosses” is a study of the landscapes embracing those monumental commemorative statues. Although hugeness is appealing, exhilarating or even fascinating, I was first intrigued by the human need to build gigantic declarations. Then, I asked myself how such works could be connected to their surroundings. How can they fit in the landscapes, despite their excessive dimensions and their fundamental symbolic and traditional functions?

That is why I chose to photograph the statues from a standpoint outside their formal surroundings (touristic or religious), and to favour a more detached view, watching them from the sidelines. This detachment enabled me to offer a wider view of the landscape and to place the monuments in a more contemporary dimension.

Fouillet references a wave of “statuemania” in the 1990s in locations mostly around Asia where many more sculptures are still under construction. The world’s tallest monument, a tribute to the the independence hero Sardar Patel in India, will soon reach a soaring height of 182 meters, nearly twice that of the Statue of Liberty. You can see much more of the series over on his website. All photos courtesy the photographer. (via Slate)

Финский военный фотоархив - важнейшее историческое событие года

by tema@tema.ru
THANKGODYOUREHERE

that girls shirt and jacket, plus ww2 photos. ww2 i can never get enough of
