One Sexy Tractor

by Troy Turner

norss_01

If there’s one machine that should adhere to utilitarianism, it’s the tractor. This one by Artur Gaca, called Norss Tractor, does so beautifully. It’s an all-electric, no-frills rover designed with one thing in mind: to get the job done. Interestingly, its resulting simplicity and symmetry are expertly executed for a look that’s undeniably artistic. At the heart of the design is a mobile driver’s cab unit that is set on a track and capable of moving from one end to the other, providing the operator with enhanced views from the glass cockpit. For areas that are harder to see, lights and cameras have replaced mirrors.

Designer: Artur Gaca

by Alice

Barbecue in a briefcase

by Sarang Sheth

bbq_suitcase_1

Strictly in terms of size, the BBQ Suitcase by Kikkerland is no larger than an iPad Pro, if you were to factor in the thickness, I’d compare it to an encyclopedia. Yet it fits a fully functional grill into its rather neat and compact footprint! Perfect for carrying around in your car or even on your person (it’ll fit into a backpack pretty easily), the BBQ Suitcase comes in stainless steel and opens up from a tiffin-box to a completely capable grill enough to barbecue food for two.

We’ve seen a few portable grills before. If you remember the Notebook Charcoal Grill, it’s still the world’s slimmest portable grill, but the caveat is that it’s still pretty large even when folded, and can’t be carried in a backpack. The BBQ Suitcase feels natural to carry. It is, honestly, designed a lot like a lunch-box, and a good thing too, because you can prepare some rather stellar lunches on it!

Designed ultimately for convenience, the portable barbecue comes with a kickstand to give it stability, and even an ash catcher that allows the product to stay mess-free. Once closed, a rather neat handle+lock allows you to secure it, carry it around, and stow it away, for another beautiful cookout!

Moving ice

by Nathan Yau

Ice in Antartica is in constant (very slow) motion, and as ocean waters warm, the flow of ice accelerates. The New York Times mapped the flows, showing where the ice is headed.

And, if you’re interested in how they did this, NYT graphics editor Derek Watkins provides the rundown.

El impactante Pingüino-Bomba de origami

by Troy

pinguino-papiroflexia-origami

Marvelous Pictures of Iceland in April

by Léa

archatlas: A Beach House in New Zealand Rawhiti Bach by Studio...

archatlas:

A Beach House in New Zealand

Rawhiti Bach by Studio Pacific Architecture in Bay of Islands has been designed to be long lasting, be grounded in the site, engage with the landscape, reinforce the sense of place, and sculpt light and views.

The main building provides the primary gathering spaces, main bedroom, informal ‘loft’ space, and a boat store. Together these contain a trace of the spatial arrangements of the previous bach, leading to a form designed as an assemblage of objects, with intended misalignments, slippages and quirks. It launches out of the ground, projecting out to near and distant views.

The sleepout takes its lead from the site’s geographical qualities and, as a counterpoint to the main building, hunkers down into the hillside. It provides bedrooms that offer a retreat from the communal bustle of the main building. Shutters create a dynamic façade providing occupants with control over privacy and views to the landscape beyond.

Digital Illustrations of City at Night

by Léa
