HUS-1 – The Ultra Tiny House Of Your Dreams

by dmitry

Over the past few weeks we have seen a massive popularity spike in “small space” architecture and design. It seems that design and architecture firms are starting to really think outside the box, creating projects that are targeted toward the minimalist consumer.

More info: Torsten Ottesjö

The beautiful project to come across our desks is this beautiful Hus-1 Residence. The tiny dwelling is just 270 square feet and was both built and designed by the Swedish architect Torsten Ottesjö. The entire objective of the home was to create something that was far away from an urban environment in an attempt to provide an optimal living environment.

”Hus 1 regularly houses two people all year round but visiting friends always have room. Kitchen, sleeping quarters, dinner table, hallway and other functions are well integrated on just 25 square metres of living space.”

These Funny Photos Show A Rather Annoying Crow Irritating An Eagle

by dmitry

Greaves B. Henriksen/Caters News Agency

The crow tirelessly circles the bird of prey and repeatedly lands on his head – much to the crows displeasure. The encounter was spotted by Greaves Henriksen in Tamilnadu, India. The 52-year-old amateur photographer believes the eagle was sitting close to a nest, which the crow was trying to defend. Here: A crow lands on the eagles head much to the eagles displeasure.

Russian Journal by Robert Capa

by Costanza

archatlas: The Middle Landscape by David Bernstein In the...

archatlas:

The Middle Landscape by David Bernstein

In the words of the artist David Bernstein:

There is an image I like to show my environmental history classes at the beginning of every semester. It acts as a sort of litmus test to gage their existing attitudes towards the subject matter we will be spending the next fifteen weeks examining: human beings interaction with the natural world. George Innes’ 1856 painting The Lackawanna Valley depicts a pastoral scene with a lone figure lounging in the foreground, gazing at a relatively innocuous roundhouse and railroad in the middle distance.  The harmlessness of the railroad is put into question, however, by a stand of trees that have been reduced to stumps, one assumes, to provide material for the railroad.  Whether the students see sublimity, nostalgia, pro-industrial boosterism or a lament for destroyed nature tells me a lot about where we are beginning our journey.

image

In 1964, cultural historian Leo Marx famously described the artistic depiction of the tension between the pastoral ideal and technological innovation as “the middle landscape.”  In Marx’s definition, the middle landscape was a “new, distinctly American, post-romantic, post-romantic , industrial version of the pastoral design.” This series builds on Marx’s assessment and pushes it to its extreme. Capturing graphic and clean scenes, often of what might be considered the natural word, I create a calm space for the viewer enter. Yet by placing the focal point—sometimes banal, other times more sinister—in both the middle of the scene and in the middle distance, I ask the viewer to take up the place of the lounging figure in Innes’ painting and contemplate the object’s relationship to its surroundings.

The misty of Borobudur “the history never end” …

Daniel Tjongari was born in Surabaya, Indonesia, on January 8, 1977. For Daniel photography is about imagination, emotion and trying to put a little of your soul into every picture you take. It really doesn’t matter what gear you have. He always imagine what I want to say in each of the pictures. Creating a real picture becomes unreal in his camera this is what he love about photography.

Borobudur, or Barabudur, is a 9th-century Mahayana Buddhist Temple in Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia. The monument consists of nine stacked platforms, six square and three circular, topped by a central dome. The temple is decorated with 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues. The central dome is surrounded by 72 Buddha statues, each seated inside a perforated stupa. It is the world’s largest Buddhist temple, as well as one of the greatest Buddhist monuments in the world.

Ovnis, abducciones, terror extraterrestre y ¿arte callejero?

ovni-abduccion-arte-callejero

Daily Life Realistic Animated Illustrations

Emilio Ambasz

While many of the pioneers of green architecture could arguably be criticized as technocratic and dry, this has never applied to Emilio Ambasz. His concept of “green over gray” has been pushing the debate around sustainability forwards since the 1970s, but alongside this concept he has developed a critical approach to architectural meaning and form-making which competes with many of architecture’s more poetic practitioners. Ahead Vladimir Belogolovsky’s upcoming exhibition of Ambasz’s work, “Emilio Ambasz: Architecture Toward Nature,” which is on show at the Singapore’s Urban Redevelopment Center from February 6th – 28th, Belogolovsky shares his interview with the architect in ArchDaily’s “City of Ideas” column.

Observe the Aurora Borealis From Snøhetta’s Swedish Treetop Cabin

by Kate Sierzputowski

Gazing up, the first thing you notice when viewing the 33-foot tall cabin, The 7th Room, is its base, an aluminum covering featuring black and white images of the pine trees that surround the structure. Used as camouflage, this exterior panel immerses the treetop cabin into its environment, blurring the boundaries between the building and forest. Designed by architecture firm Snøhetta, the structure is also intended to bring visitors closer to nature, built with a suspended net at its center, and several floor-to-ceiling windows that allow for multiple viewpoints of the Aurora Borealis overhead.

The 7th Room is one of seven cabins available through northern Sweden’s Treehotel. You can view the other six cabins that compose the alternative hotel, like The Mirror Cube, on their website. (via Designboom)

Counting large crowds

by Nathan Yau

So the inauguration was on Friday, and there’s been some disagreement about how many people showed up to the event. It turns out, as one might expect, counting thousands of people moving in and out of a space without some kind of counting mechanism like turnstiles is tricky. The New York Times provides a bit of background.
