GRIFBALL!

Watch in 60 fps on YouTube | Subscribe to Polygon on YouTube

Since its launch last October, Halo 5: Guardians has received monthly content updates, bringing significant changes to the shooter. These have ranged from the addition of familiar features, like Forge and Big Team Battle, to brand-new content, like original Arena and Warzone maps. We're now on the cusp of the next major update, Hammer Storm, which marks — among other things — the return of a fan-favorite Halo multiplayer mode: Grifball.

Above, watch an exclusive first look at Halo 5's Grifball in motion (plus the returning gravity hammer weapon). We checked out a full match replay taking place within a snowy Grifball arena, which was built entirely in Forge.

Great Job, Internet!: This Super Mario Kart hack allows for 101 racers at once

by Derrick Rossignol

Isn’t it the worst when you have 100 of your closest friends over for an exciting round of Super Mario Kart only to realize that the game only has eight characters, and that the Super Nintendo Entertainment System only has two controller ports? Instead of leaving nearly 100 of your friends out in the cold, they can all play thanks to a strange and beautiful new hack of the game courtesy of Hat-Loving Gamer.

While it seems unlikely that 101 players would be able to provide input at once without the computer exploding as it tries to manage all that activity, a video demonstrating the hack does show a single player competing against 100 other characters. Even Mario Kart 8, the most recent entry of the franchise, has only 30 playable characters, so Hat-Loving Gamer had to get creative and pull some racers from other franchises. Characters seen in ...

10 Hilariously Terrible Excerpts from The "Awful Fantasy" Twitter

Alecbugg

This is one of my favorite twitter accounts. Consistent hilarity

It's taken us too long to start following the brilliant parody account Awful Fantasy on twitter. You don't have to be a diehard Tolkien fan or have the entire Wheel of Time series in hardcover to appreciate their dead-on stabs at genre fiction. Somebody give these people a Hugo award, or at the very least follow them on facebook and tumblr.

Wrestling Legend "J.R." Jim Ross Calls The Dunk Contest Final Round

by Timothy Burke on Screengrabber, shared by Timothy Burke to Deadspin

Adding JR makes it even better. And its an excuse to watch this insanity again

The final round of tonight’s NBA All-Star Weekend dunk contest proved to be one of the most memorable in decades, as Aaron Gordon and Zach LaVine combined for an epic battle—and that’s not hyperbole, as each player’s dunk was met by his opponent with an equally awesome one.

The International Space Station Time Lapse Video Captures Lightening Strikes From Space

Alecbugg

I could watch this on loop for the entire day

Amazing how much lightning can strike our planet in a short timeFlying from North Africa over Turkey towards Russia in this timelapse (this is speeded up; travelling about 5500 km would take around 10-12 minutes, covered here in 30 seconds).

Posted by Tim Peake on Tuesday, February 9, 2016

Astronaut Tim Peake posted a time lapse video from the International Space Station (ISS) that caught a particularly striking view of lightening as it flew over Earth. According to the caption, all these lightening strikes happened in a matter of minutes:

Great Job, Internet!: OK Go decided to go the anti-gravity route this time around

by Joe Blevins
Alecbugg

How do they keep topping themselves!?!?

Arguably much better known for their innovative music videos than for any of the songs they’ve recorded, the Chicago-born rock quartet OK Go apparently determined that they needed to slip the surly bonds of Earth for their latest clip. They’d already famously employed treadmills, Rube Goldberg-type devices, and even Muppets in their dauntless and, thus far, wildly successful quest for viral views. But 2016 requires a fresh, new approach, so OK Go have decided to bypass gravity altogether in the video for the high-energy “Upside Down & Inside Out.” Already anticipating viewer skepticism, the clip starts out with this stark message: “What you are about to see is real. We shot this in zero gravity, in an actual plane, in the sky. There are no wires or green screen.” Instead of those tricks, the free-floating antics on display here were made possible through Russia’s very real S7 ...

Newswire: A Saved By The Bell-themed bar and diner is coming to Chicago

by Danette Chavez
Alecbugg

Get excited, Jared! Can be your new haunt

We may never get another Saved By The Bell Reunion, what with Screech’s social calendar being dominated by his stint in jail, but fans in Chicago can soon indulge in the next best thing. No, not a viewing party for Saved By The Bell: The College Years—it’s actually a theme pop-up bar and diner, dedicated to The Max and its pimply patrons. The “Saved By The Max” parody pop-up bar and diner is not affiliated with NBC or Rysher Entertainment, and will instead act as an unauthorized homage, a la the Lifetime movie and its low-rent stand-ins.

Like the George Costanza-themed bar before it, “Saved By The Max” will feature food and libations named after the sitcom’s characters: There will be A.C. Sliders and Preppy BLTs, the latter of which will presumably be served on white bread. There will also be a costume contest with ...

Stephen King Confirms 'Dark Tower' Progress, Idris Elba Casting Rumors

by Katie Roberts
Alecbugg

Idris as Roland!?!? INSPIRED CASTING. Swerve and finally cast someone against type, this would be fucking cool as hell.

The 22nd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards - Press RoomAs fans of Stephen King's fantasy series "The Dark Tower" have come to realize over the years, any reports about the long-awaited big screen adaptation of the novels can't really be believed. After all, this is the project that was dropped by not one, but two different studios, and has cycled through potential stars faster than you can say "Javier Bardem." So the latest reports, that the flick is due in theaters early next year, and both Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey are in talks to star, are also bogus, right?

Well, not so fast: According to King himself, there's hope that this movie version of his beloved books may actually, truly, finally be happening -- and yes, both Elba and McConaughey are interested.

That's the word straight from the author, who chatted with Rolling Stone in promotion of the new Hulu miniseries "11/22/63," which is based on his besteller. Of course, King knows the history of the troubled "Dark Tower" film production better than anyone, and he's not ready to say with certainty that this is actually happening -- just that, as far as he can tell right now, it's looking like a strong possibility.

"It looks to me like it's more likely than not it'll happen at this point," the author told the magazine. "Let's put it that way."

And he also confirmed all those juicy casting rumors, too -- that Elba is being eyed to play protagonist Roland Deschain (a.k.a. The Gunslinger), and McConaughey is in negotiations for the villainous Randall Flagg (a.k.a. the Man in Black) -- though, again, with a caveat.

"I think that it's more likely than not that Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey will be in it," King told Rolling Stone. "But I can't say with any certainty. I know that they're trying to make deals with these actors [and] with Sony, and that's the extent of my knowledge."

Despite all the hedging, King is without a doubt the best source for this intel, so it's great that he's able to share it on the record. Now we just have to wait for an official announcement from studio Sony, revealing the cast and confirming the release date.

A this point, it's unclear if the initial ambitious plan for the project -- a handful of theatrical films, with a televised miniseries running between them -- is still in play. Either way, we hope we see Elba and McConaughey facing off sometime soon.

"The Dark Tower" is tentatively scheduled to hit theaters on January 13, 2017.

This Woman Came Back From the Dead to Spite the Husband Who Paid to Have Her Murdered

love murder This Woman Came Back From The Dead To Spite the Husband Who Paid to Have Her Murdered

Noela Rukundo lived happily in Australia with her husband Balenga Kalala until she left to visit her the country of Burundi where she grew up for her stepmother's funeral.

In Burundi, she stepped out for some air after finishing a phone call with her loving husband to meet a man with a gun pointed at her.  Under the threat of death, she did what he told her to do and was taken to a secluded place where her kidnappers met with other gang members. Fortunately for her, the hitmen her husband sent to kill her were principled.

They told her they don't kill women and children so after some theatrics over the phone, during which she heard her own husband command them to "Kill her" and the hitmen demanded more money and told him that she was dead.

With evidence from her would-be killers she headed home to crash her own funeral. She showed up right as mourning friends and family were leaving her husband's home.

What kind of thing would you say to the person you love who tried to have you murdered?  Rukundo told the BBC she just said, "Surprise! I'm still alive!"

Newswire: Matt Czuchry joins the Gilmore Girls revival to crush your ‘shipping dreams

by Sam Barsanti
Alecbugg

FUCK THAT. HE BETTER GET MURDERED IN THE FIRST MINUTE

According to TVLine, Matt Czuchry will be returning to Gilmore Girls for its four-part revival on Netflix, reprising his role as the lovable(?) jackass Logan Huntzberger. This is the news that a lot of Gilmore Girls fans have dreaded since the revival was announced, because it means there’s a chance that Rory will either get back together with him or consider getting back together with him, both of which are unacceptable. Everyone except the most frustrating contrarians know that Rory is supposed to be with Jess, or, barring that, she should be out kicking ass on her own because she doesn’t need some man to drag her down.

This casting update comes only a couple of days after Melissa McCarthy revealed that she hasn’t been asked to return for the Gilmore Girls revival, which either means that Czuchry and Logan are significantly more important to the storyline ...
