Coming Distractions: The Me Him Her trailer falls into an L.A. fever dream
AlecbuggThis trailer...is Awesome. Reminds me of Go!

Though one would would be hard-pressed to discern this from the impressionistic montage that is this trailer, Me Him Her seems to be about a guy (Dustin Milligan) who travels to L.A. to help his TV actor friend (Luke Bracey) come out of the closet, only to find himself hurled into a tumultuous relationship with a recently jilted lesbian (Emily Meade). If you’ve already watched the trailer, you might want to go back and rewatch it with this new information, and it might make a little bit more sense. Regardless, it looks like it’s going to be a pretty off-kilter, frantic film pumped full of irreverent humor and splashes of fantasy.
Screenwriter Max Landis (Chronicle, American Ultra) chose this uncharacteristically non-sci-fi script as his feature directorial debut, and the directorial flourishes are plentiful. An earlier trailer released back in September didn’t do justice to the weirdness ...
Newswire: Ben Stiller and Adam Sandler are filming a surprise Noah Baumbach movie
AlecbuggSign me up
These days, it’s pretty rare for a movie to get made without a big, flashy announcement beforehand, especially if the movie comes from a high-profile filmmaker. But some people can get away with it. Noah Baumbach happens to be one of those people, and not only did he not make an announcement about developing his latest project, he’s already started filming it. This comes from The Film Stage, which reports that a filming notice popped up on the streets of New York recently indicating that Baumbach was there filming a new movie called Yen Din Ka Kissa. The title translates to The Story Of The Day in Hindi, and the notice says it’s about “an estranged New York family coming together in preparation of artist and patriarch Harold’s career retrospective.”
Assuming this isn’t all an elaborate ruse to cover up the filming of a Star ...
Great Job, Internet!: Keanu Reeves is legitimately amazing at shooting guns
AlecbuggTruly and completely, bad ass
Given that John Wick: Chapter Two is currently in production, it’s no surprise that actor (and all-around excellent dude) Keanu Reeves has been training non-stop to reprise the leading role. John Wick was, after all, an intense revenge thriller that featured extensive fight choreography and, to quote Neo, “Guns. Lots of guns.”
Sure, The Matrix trilogy featured a massive amount of stunt work and training too—not to mention a few gruesome injuries—but it’s still eye-opening to witness how confidently Reeves handles guns in real life. Recently uploaded by Taran Tactical and posted to Reddit, Reeves can be seen filmed at an outdoor shooting course absolutely “shredding” a slew of fixed targets. Cinematic gun work can be very hit or miss, but judging by this video, Reeves has basically become one with the once-retired hitman John Wick.
Speaking with IGN, Reeves revealed how John Wick: Chapter Two ...

See Myst's spiritual successor in action in Obduction's teaser trailer
AlecbuggNew Myst! Let's goooooo!
The creators of seminal adventure puzzle games Myst and Riven are returning to the genre with a spiritual successor called Obduction. The game is coming to Mac and Windows PC this summer, and is the subject of a new teaser trailer released this week by developer Cyan.
Obduction's teaser focuses on the adventure game's varied environments and hints at its story. Here's the official description of its story, straight from Cyan:
You've been abducted from your cozy existence and added into an alien landscape with a stereotypical, Kansas farmhouse with a white picket fence. But the farmhouse is just the first building in a rather bizarre little town that borders the road - curious structures that beg questions rather than provide answers....

Coming Distractions: The first trailer for the Ghostbusters reboot is eerily familiar
AlecbuggSOLID

Hide your childhoods, Ghostbusters fans, because the first full trailer for director Paul Feig’s all-female reboot of the 1985 original has arrived online. And there’s something strange in this new generation’s neighborhood—namely that the same things are still happening 30 years later, only with CGI ghosts this time.
We meet Erin Gilbert (Kristen Wiig), Jillian Holtzmann (Kate McKinnon), and Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy) in a library, like the original. We then follow them as they develop their paranormal fixation into a viable business with the aid of a sudden uptick in ghostly activity in New York City, also like in the original. The arrival of Patty Tolan (Leslie Jones) injects some energy into the proceedings, and Jones provides one of the funnier moments towards the end of the trailer when she literally slaps a spirit out of McCarthy. But even that’s an Exorcist reference, so ...
Newswire: Steven Soderbergh reunites with Out Of Sight writer for Netflix Western
AlecbuggThis sounds like something I might be interested in
Ostensibly retired film director and prolific TV producer Steven Soderbergh is teaming up with Netflix and screenwriter Scott Frank for a new limited series, the streaming service’s second after the Gilmore Girls revival that’s currently in the works. Soderbergh will executive produce while Frank writes and directs Godless, which is being described as a Western set in the 1880s. The pair previously worked together on 1998’s Out Of Sight, the film that inflicted Soderbergh with his “George Clooney as a charismatic thief” addiction that came to dominate so much of his 2000s-era film output. We can only hope the new series doesn’t lead to a similar case of burgeoning Soderberghian obsession, because we’re not sure if we could put up with the Ocean’s-esque diminishing returns of Godlesser and Godlessest.
Frank’s post-Sight output has been a series of quiet successes; his credits ...

The Dark Tower movie moves forward with Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey
AlecbuggI have to read the part where they go to Stephen King's house and force him to finish writing...i mean, wheels off, train out of control levels bad at that point
After years of trying to get an adaptation of Stephen King's prolific Dark Tower series made, the franchise is finally moving forward with Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey confirmed to star.
The author tweeted out the details this morning, and Entertainment Weekly confirmed that Elba would be playing the gunslinger, while McConaughey would portray the infamous man in black.
It's official: The man in black fled across the desert and the gunslinger followed. #DarkTowerMovie @McConaughey @IdrisElba

Here's Stephen Curry's Miracle Game-Winner As Called In Spanish And In Russian
AlecbuggIt's fuckin fantastic in Spanish. Also, they broadcast NBA games in Russian??

Stephen Curry’s multiple-record-breaking series of three pointers tonight against the Thunder sent the Warriors out of Oklahoma City with a win they had absolutely no business taking. None of the threes were more mindblowing, of course, than the last-second-of-overtime long-range bomb that earned the win . That call, as you might imagine, is better in Spanish.
This was only temporary, he now lives with two lemur buddies....
AMAZING Church/Office Renovation in Center City
AlecbuggI had no idea
Ok, so this isn’t exactly anything new (I learned). BUT, I’ve lived in Philly my whole life and I always just assumed this church at 22nd and Chestnut streets in Center City was just that…a church.
However, after recording an interview with Na’eem Douglas for his new Brookladelphian podcast series (more on that when it’s out!) inside a very stylish store called Stars & Stripes, we were invited to explore the building and its adjacent structure – the church – which is now a beautiful little office building.
Some quick history: Robert & Jan Chevalier own the property. They own CFI (Corporate Facilities Inc.) as well as Stars & Stripes… They’ve owned the property for 10 years now! Mark B. Thompson was the architect hired to design the renovation in the late 1980s.
The church itself was originally built in 1881 in a Gothic Revival style for the Swedenborgian faith. It was designed by Theophilus Parsons Chandler Jr., the founder of the School of Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania. It is now protected by the National Register of Historic Places.
All this info, I should mention, was given to me by the AMAZINGLY kind people who work at Stars & Stripes, namely Anne Marie Parente. Thank y’all so much for the tour and all this incredible history about the church!
