For reasons that are unclear, the Fox News cable channel has shrunken down their entire staff and locked them in a newsroom with normal sized iPads. OK, we didn’t actually read the story, but simply ascertained this from the images. But what other plausible explanation could there be? They wouldn’t have just gone out and purchased an entire room full of comically oversized touch monitors. That would just be ridiculous. Sadly, these tiny journalists are having a difficult time knowing real news from satire, but that's OK, tiny journalists. Just keep practicing …

Science: Taking Pictures of Your Food Makes You Enjoy It Less
See? All along, we've been making fun of people who take pictures of their food and, as it turns out, for good reason. Taking a picture of your food isn't only aggravating, it's detrimental. The Journal of Consumer Psychology released a study saying that people who take pictures of their food are actually depriving themselves of enjoyment. The study actually determined that you have a limited amount of satisfaction per each object of desire, and that taking that picture eats up some of that satisfaction so that you have less to spend on the actual eating. Blah, blah, blah, long story short, stop taking pictures of your food. The study did note that taking pictures of other food doesn't seem to have any affect on how much people enjoy their own food so, if you must, take pictures of other people's food and then eat your own. That seems pretty normal ...

Food Rules Poster
Team Holstee fell in love with this vintage WWI poster by Frederick G. Cooper. And after giving it a slightly refreshed look, this original poster released by the U.S. Food Administration is now available as a letterpress print.
Well done, Holstee.

Little Robot Friends: Customizable Robots with Evolving Personalities
Mikkele.bringardawhile ago i was going to get you one of these, but eventually decided against it.
Little Robot Friends from Toronto-based Aesthetec Studio are a series of tiny robots that can listen, sense light, detect touch, and communicate using infrared light. Each robot is mounted on a CNC milled wood base and is embedded with a “brain” consisting of an 8-bit 32K microcontroller that provides space for coding behaviours or storing memories. If that’s not enough you can plug the robots into your computer to programmatically control its behavior, which evolves organically as it interacts with you and other Little Robot Friends. The project is currently going gangbusters over on Kickstarter.
This Horrible Lake Turns Animals Into Stone
Yes. It's true. It's terrifying, but it's real. This quiet, magnificently reflective lake in Tanzania has crazy pH levels that forever calcify any unfortunate animals who dive into it. In essence, it turns them to stone. Evidently, the reflective surface confuses enough animals for this to be a fairly regular occurrence, and photographer Nick Brandt is photographing these creatures for a new book of his. You can view all the haunting images over at The New Scientist, which is much safer than going to try to visit the place yourself ...
New Video Depicts the Amazing Final Stages of Construction of the Sagrada Família in Barcelona
The foundation responsible for the construction of the famous Sagrada Família church in Barcelona recently released a video depicting what the final stages of construction will look like as nearly 150 years of building (and delays) finally wraps up in 2026. The breathtaking clip combines footage shot from a helicopter with computer-animated renderings to show what the basilica, designed by Antoni Gaudí, will look like. The structure is said to be “the most extraordinary personal interpretation of Gothic architecture since the Middle Ages.” Read more over on Co.Design. (via Design TAXI)

Jon Hamm and Amy Poehler Threw an Emmys 'Loser's Party' to Raise Money for Charity
Both Amy Poehler (Parks & Rec) and Jon Hamm (Mad Men) were expected to take home Emmys last night, and both got shut down. Rather than gripe about it, the two threw a "Loser's Party" in Soho, because they are the best. The only rules: if you lost, you got in for free. But if you won, your admittance fee was a thousand dollar donation to World Wide Orphans (also, you had to check your trophy at the door. Obviously.) It's hard to imagine having that kind of money on hand just to attend a party, but that's Hollywood for you, and the pair's party ended up raising $30k for the charity. So, all told, it's all just about the only non-boring thing to come out of the Emmys this year ...
The Only 'Wrecking Ball' Parody You Need to See
Hopefully, you haven't seen the video for Miley's "Wrecking Ball" video but, sadly, you probably have. There are plenty of parodies floating around the Internet to help bleach away the memory, but there's really only one you need to watch. It's this one. You're welcome ...
Moving Images Requested By Prisoners in Solitary Confinement
According to some estimates, there are currently 25,000 individuals living in solitary confinement in America’s prison system. Many have been there for years. The Tamms supermax federal prison in Illinois has allowed a new program that lets inmates receive custom photos that they can keep in their cells. As part of the “Photo Requests from Solitary” project, requested images from inmates are posted online. Photographers can then view the requests, create the images and send them to the prisoners. This weekend, the images will go on display at the PhotovilleNYC Exhibit, but the event’s organizers have gone ahead and created an online gallery of some of the moving images, like the one below (from photographers Laurie Jo Reynolds and Chris X). The inmate said,
“I would like my own picture done with an alternate background from the IDOC picture. I have no pictures of myself to give my friends and family. This would mean a great deal to me… If you can place my picture on another background. Nothing too much please. Something simple like a blue sky with clouds or a sunset in the distance would be fine.”

One Giant Leap: Frog Photobombs NASA Spacecraft Launch Photo
In one one of the more bizarre photobombs ever, NASA released a photograph of what appears to be a frog that may have attempted, and subsequently failed, to hitch a ride aboard a Moon-bound rocket. The shot was captured on September 7th during the launch of the Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer (LADEE), and NASA’s photo team confirms the image is genuine, but stated “the condition of the frog, however, is uncertain.” (via PetaPixel)

And Now, Zombie-Inspired Wedding Photos
Mikkele.bringardhmmmmm.
Let’s be honest—wedding photo albums aren’t always the most exciting things to look at. That’s why this awesome couple decided to turn their happy occasion into a full-on zombie adventure. (Go here to see the entire, terrifying album.) Instead of random images of rings, flowers and matching outfits, they’ve created a storyboard-like album that, if it were a movie, we’d totally see. Congrats, you two! We hope you are happy until death do you part …
Charge Your Phone—with Your Bicycle?

A company called Siva has released a lightweight device called Atom that lets cyclers power their mobile devices simply by pedaling. Following a successful Kickstarter campaign (you can see their original campaign video below), the Atom is now available to order on the company’s website for about $100. After capturing and storing the kinetic energy created when you ride, the Atom can then be plugged into your device’s USB port to fully charge the battery. Siva also recognizes the potential social benefits of the technology—they’ve partnered with several international organizations so that for every 10 Atoms sold, one will be donated to a community in a developing country where access to traditional power sources is limited …

Cecily Strong Will Co-Anchor ‘Weekend Update’ with Seth Meyers
Lorne Michaels has announced that rising Saturday Night Live star Cecily Strong will co-anchor "Weekend Update" with Seth Meyers next season. Strong has been a regular guest on the faux-news segment with her flighty character “The Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started a Conversation With at a Party”, and has become one of the series’ most popular cast members after just one season. It’s a good time to be in the co-anchor seat: Meyers has already announced that he is leaving the sketch comedy show soon to take over hosting duties on Late Night. Though Michaels didn’t confirm who would take over as "Weekend Update" anchor after Meyers’ departure, he did say, “Cecily, from the first show, was right there. She exploded” …
There’s Already a Marching Band Cover of ‘The Fox’

Bonus points to The Ohio University Marching 110 for the mid-song dance breakdown …
How to Delete Miley Cyrus From Your Web Browsing Experience
First, too many people were talking about Miley. Then, too many people were talking about how too many people were talking about Miley. And in its typical reserved fashion, the Internet is taking a scorched earth policy to this perceived problem, by introducing a plug-in that will erase her from your web surfing experience forever. It's called "No Cyrus," and it means you're one click away from no more twerking, no more wrecking balls and no more Miley. Yes. Life can be this good.
The New Miss America Is an Outrage to Racists Everywhere
If you didn't know about the Miss America pageant, don't fret. The competition isn't quite the news maelstrom that it used to be. However, last night's selection of Nina Davuluri is becoming a news story, largely on account of the fact that her selection has infuriated America's still sadly vocal legions of racists. She's Indian-American—the first to ever win the pageant—and that was enough to send racists into a tizzy. Despite that fact that Nina was born and raised in exotic Syracuse, New York, some racists had a hard time comprehending how this Miss America pageant had crowned an "Arab" (this reveals a tenuous grasp of geography, one of racism's trademarks), and so close to 9/11 too. For her part, the new Miss America is taking it all with a lot of class. "I have to rise above that," she told AP. "I always viewed myself as first and foremost American." She went on to say, "I'm thankful there are children watching at home who can finally relate to a new Miss America." And what's more American than that? ...
