what is happening here?

Lisa Fine of Quiet Town

Every morning, I see Lisa Fine, co-founder of Quiet Town, at elementary school drop-off. (Her kids go to the same school as Toby.) She always looks comfortable and cool, so it’s no surprise that “Anjelica Huston in the 1970s” is her style inspiration.… Read more

Watch TJ Miller’s Emotional Audition for the Emoji Movie

by Anonymous

When we first heard news that Sony was making a big-budget, feature length movie based on emojis, like the rest of the world, we were pretty apprehensive. But, this “audition” tape featuring TJ Miller gives us some hope that it will at least be self-aware enough to actually be potentially, at least somewhat, funny.

And spoiler alert: Miller did get the part. He plays the “meh” emoji in the upcoming animated comedy called “Express Yourself” due out in 2017.

A Darling Recap: Hedley & Bennett Darling Dinner

by Darling Magazine
Mikkele.bringard

ughhh i follow this apron company on instagram and i love them

We recently hosted a beautiful Darling Dinner at the apron factory and shop, Hedley & Bennett in Los Angeles. The naturally lit space — with colorful aprons hanging on the walls and twinkly lights draped from the ceiling — provided the perfect place for readers and supporters to gather for a family-style meal and engage in inspiring conversation.

As the sun set, guests began to arrive and enjoy delicious wines from Club W as they mingled around the beautifully styled tables. The whimsical flower arrangements were created by Layered Vintage, as well as the foraged bundles on each place setting. The lovely table settings were styled and provided by Hostess Haven.

After a time of sipping and socializing, guests took their seats and began the scrumptious family-style dinner prepared by Chef Felix of KTCHN DTLA. Plates were filled with a refreshing salad to start, followed by exquisite sea bass that left no empty stomachs.

Editor-in-Chief Sarah Dubbeldam began the table conversation with thoughtful questions challenging guests to be vulnerable in self-reflection. The room filled with the sound of women sharing personal trials and triumphs while encouraging and uplifting one another. These women so quickly created a warm and welcoming atmosphere, that no one was left a stranger.

A Darling Recap: Hedley & Bennett Darling Dinner

Dessert was served and guests were thanked for attending, though many stayed long after appetites were satisfied. Some expressed their desperation to find a positive community of women, which they had found at this dinner. With so many women craving authenticity and connection, Darling seeks to provide a platform to cultivate both of those things by hosting these dinners.

With so many women craving authenticity and connection, Darling seeks to provide a platform to cultivate both of those things by hosting these dinners.

Vulnerability is synonymous with courage, though in our society it is often not treated as such. Yet, the women who attended were daring in their willingness to share those vulnerabilities with other women they had been acquainted with for but a few hours. The result was a close bond between attendees who had created their own community by the end of the night.

A Darling Recap: Hedley & Bennett Darling Dinner

A big thank you to our Chelsea Carter for curating the event and the ladies of Layered Vintage and Hostess Haven for styling the beautiful tables with flowers and place settings. Also, a shout out to Chef Felix for never disappointing and Club W for some delicious wine. Lastly, a huge thank you to Hedley & Bennett for providing such a wonderful space!

prompt

by swissmiss

prompt

Prompt is an experimental email-based community project.

The premise is simple: every day, you get a prompt in your inbox. You get 18 hours to write back with anything you want. The next day, you get a new prompt, but you also get to see what everybody else on the list wrote back.

Not that I want one more extra email in my inbox, but I do find the idea charming.

Chick-Fil-A Will Give You Free Ice Cream If You Put Your Phone Away While You Eat

by jessec

We’ve all been there: Enjoying a meal with a friend or our families, and someone at the table has their head down, messing around on their phone. Well now, 150 Chick-Fil-A stores across the country are doing their part to restore in-person conversation and good ole fashioned eye contact to meal time. They’ve created a “phone coop” for diners to put their phones into while they eat, rewarding those who use it with a free “Icedream” dessert.

In a statement, they explained, “Americans now spend an average of 4.7 hours per day on their phone … Although our phones were meant to bring us closer together, they can sometimes have the opposite effect.”

The idea was dreamt up by a restaurant operator in Georgia named Brad Williams, who explained in a statement,

We really want our restaurant to provide a sense of community for our customers, where family and friends can come together and share quality time with one another. But as we all know, technology increasingly demands more of our time and can be a big distraction, even while we’re eating. This got me thinking about what we could do to reduce this distraction during meals.

Participating stores will give you the “Coop” to hold the phone while you eat, and then hand out ice creams to those who successfully complete the “Cell Phone Coop” challenge.

The challenge maybe harder than it sounds, especially for millennials. According to some research, 87% say their phone never leaves their side, and on average, and the marketing firm SDL, they check it 43 times a day. Now, how badly do you want that free ice cream?

Trump Says He's Being Audited Because He's a Strong Christian

by tiffaniebrunson
Mikkele.bringard

i like the writers comment. "OK." hahaha

GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump told CNN last night that he's being audited by the IRS, perhaps, because of his religious beliefs. “I’m always audited by the IRS, which I think is very unfair. I don’t know whether it’s maybe because of religion or because of something else, maybe because I’m doing this,” he told CNN reporter Chris Cuomo. And when Cuomo asked him just what he meant by that, Trump responded, “Well maybe because of the fact that I’m a strong Christian and I feel strongly about it, so maybe there’s a bias.”

OK.
