Beribboned in Bolivia
Photograph by Esther Buttery
"At 14,000 feet in icy winds this llama was completely at home," writes Esther Buttery, who submitted this photo, taken on Bolivia's Laguna Colorado salt lake, to the Traveler Photo Contest. "It was a different world for me. I'd like to think that we shared a moment."

Stylish Multi-Functional Bike
Kevin White@phil
The frame is really sturdy but because it was built from an adult tricycle it's a kind of fixie (definitely no San Francisco bike!)
The toilet seat part is great for carrying groceries, I used it frequently at Welburns when I lived around there, got lots of comments!
Also if you are big on bike touring in a pinch it can be used a literal toilet! The bottom is a removable steel sheet that is held on with sturdy clamps making it easy to clean afterwards. I say just a good hose down in the backyard and your good to go.
Not to mention the amount of interest from the ladies when you ride this thing down the street! I dunno what it was but it was a kind of pick up bike back then, maybe things have changed but when I rode this thing around town I was a freaking chick magnet!
All in all it's a sweet set of wheels that is both functional and statement art piece by a local artist!
Price is firm but I'm up for trades
You will have to pick up

Mashatu Herd
Photograph by Jaco Marx, National Geographic Your Shot
"For years I have been fascinated by elephants and elephant herds," writes Your Shot member Jaco Marx. "I've traveled to Chobe in northern Botswana quite often to photograph them in large numbers, enjoying the sight of hundreds of elephants at a time. I came across an article on photographing from an underground hide in southeastern Botswana at the Mashatu Game Reserve, an opportunity to get really close to the animals from an interesting perspective."
The hide gave Marx a mouse's-eye view of the elephants. "I waited until the young ones concentrated around one female and took a group shot. The sky was moody dark, with clouds all over, which at first concerned me but eventually added a lot of atmosphere to the picture."

Kevin Whitehaha
The first one goes out and gets a total makeover with the money. She gets new clothes, a new hairdo, manicure, pedicure, the works, and tells the man, "I spent the money so I could look pretty for you because I love you so much."
The second one went out and bought new golf clubs, a CD player, a television, and a stereo and gives them to the man. She says, "I bought these gifts for you with the money because I love you so much."
The third one takes the $5000 and invests it in the stock market, doubles her investment, returns the $5000 to the man and reinvests the rest. She says, "I am investing the rest of the money for our future because I love you so much."
The man thought long and hard about how each of the women spent the money and decided to marry the one with the biggest breasts.
The Mathematically Perfect Way to Cut a Round Cake
Kevin WhiteNOM NOM NOM... The secret is to cut straight slices right out of the middle and push the two halves back together using a rubber band around it to keep the cake fresh but really who has a rubber band big enough for a cake?
There are so many techniques we use in the kitchen that are inefficient and just plain wrong. For example, many of us don’t think twice when faced with the task of cutting a cake. Most of us, in fact, think…

The World’s Ball
Great NYT visual guide to the evolution of the ball used in the World Cup. That 1970 ball is the best — so iconic. I had no idea that it was designed to look better on black and white TVs.

Falling Water
Photograph by Peter Lik
"The shafts of light in [this] canyon [were] one of the most amazing things Ive ever seen," says Peter Lik, who submitted this photo to the National Geographic Traveler Photo Contest. "It was a surreal feeling being surrounded by the towering cliffs. The only way I could capture this special moment of weeping walls was after an incredibly torrential rain. I knew I had to get to a shallow portion of the river to unfold my tripod. I was drenched from head to toe by the falling water. Mist and rain covered the camera, but I fired a few shots. As I stood in awe of the scene, the sun broke through for a few seconds and cast Gods rays into the side-lit waterfall."

2014 FIFA World Cup [infographic]
It’s that time again and Brazil might as well be the center of the world. In case you weren’t aware, the World Cup is a pretty big deal. So much so that Brazil has spent an estimated $3.5 billion just on rebuilding their stadium. That really is an exorbitant amount of money and my first thought is, why? Surely there must be something to gain in order for Brazil to willingly invest that kind of cash. Otherwise it really would be just a gross allocation of resources that could be used to fund more positive things in the world. It turns out that there is, but the the impact that follows is not just decimals and dollars and it’s hard to quantify.
One example is that the for the last World Cup, FIFA agreed to a 0.4% tax on revenues that raised an estimated $48 million that helped 2 million children receive basic education. It is also supposed that kids who take up activities like sports are less likely to be on the streets doing drugs. The last World Cup champions were Spain, who’s citizens were divided on certain issues and in a state of political turmoil preceding it. After their victory however the nation stood much more united and experienced a period of relif from their sociopolitical woes. So maybe sports aren’t a completely useless waste of capital, but their benefit to society certainly is this very fractured esoteric thing. [Kupdates]
