This song was never finished. it's a demo from ~ the lost album ~, recorded early 2013. i lost the ableton file, so it's not mixed or mastered. i tried to doctor the mp3 into a listenable state, but it was poorly recorded in the first place and never meant to be heard by anyone, so it's a bit of a mess haha.
If Björk’s wrenching and masterful new album Vulnicura hadn’t leaked early, its release would’ve coincided with the opening of the Museum Of Modern Art’s new Björk retrospective. The exhibit, which opens next month, will feature sound installations, visuals, costumes, and tons of other things that will capture the strange and slippery and beautiful career she’s pieced together over the decades. And one centerpiece of the exhibit will be a specifically-commissioned video for “Black Lake,” the new album’s soul-destroying 10-minute centerpiece.

Björk co-hosted Tri-Angle Records’ Rinse FM podcast last night, and her set included a new remix of her Vulnicura track “NotGet” by Berlin producer Lotic. What once was a boisterous orchestral number is now bathed in piercing drones and aggressive drones — a different way to express the same emotional turmoil. is everyone as heartbroken over this album as i am? i'm finally able to listen to it without sobbing uncontrollably, so there's that! i love this song.
Björk labels this track as “five months before” in the packaging of Vulnicura, as in it was written nearly half a year before she and Matthew Barney permanently split. It’s basically a song in which she observes a change in their dynamic, and wonders what to do – call him out on his moodiness, wait it out, stew in frustration. It’s a very passive sentiment, and that carries through most of the album, with Björk addressing the dissolution of a very long relationship as though it’s just something happening to her, rather than something she is directly involved in. I think this rings emotionally true to an extent, especially if you’re the one being left behind. But there’s a strange void in this music, this empty space where the singer’s complicity would be. Is she actually blameless in all this, or is it just too painful to address?
