NFL players express concern over battery life of new tablet playbooks | Shutdown Corner - Yahoo Sports

by gguillotte
Cincinnati Bengals offensive lineman Andrew Whitworth, 31: "This (tablet) would work a lot better for me if it was actually able to turn on. I show up every day and it is totally dead. As (scatterbrained) as I am, this is really, really bad. The time it takes to charge them up is a lot, because the thing is, we're using them to watch film and you drain the battery in no time," Whitworth added. "You use it up so fast you need to remember to go leave it (at the charging station). You are coming and going and if you don't remember, you are in big trouble."

Black Widow Almost Got A Movie Before Iron Man—But The Studio Killed It

by Lauren Davis
firehose

SNAAAAAAAAAKE/David Hayter: 'Unfortunately, as I was coming up on the final draft, a number of female vigilante movies came out. We had Tomb Raider and Kill Bill, which were the ones that worked, but then we had BloodRayne and Ultraviolet and Aeon Flux. Aeon Flux didn't open well, and three days after it opened, the studio said, "We don't think it's time to do this movie." I accepted their logic in terms of the saturation of the marketplace, but it was pretty painful.

Marvel, for the record, did try to shop the movie around to other studios before getting the rights to Black Widow back and putting her in Iron Man 2.'

Black Widow Almost Got A Movie Before Iron Man—But The Studio Killed It

While Marvel Studios has yet to release a female-led superhero movie, Black Widow had a chance to beat fellow Avengers Iron Man and Thor to the big screen. And the reason it didn't happen is pretty rage-inducing.

It’s amazing when hidden treasures and gems are discovered! The New York Times reported that what may be the earliest surviving film with a Black cast, made in 1913, was found in the film archives of the Museum of Modern Art.

The New York Times wrote:

It is a rare visual depiction of middle-class black characters from an era when lynchings and stereotyped black images were…

“A Centaur in Disguise” by Michelle Tolo

This is the most precious Centaur art I’ve ever seen.

What really makes it is the fact that the dude and the horse are both going “something here ain’t right…”

And I could see any hard core horse riding enthusiast going “What are you doing!?  That’s not how you ride!”

I guess he’s trying to blend in and not be the

Explanation of Oregon Laws Concerning E-Bikes

firehose

So, are e-bikes legal to ride like an unassisted bicycle? Yes, but with some very important differences (explained below).

An Electric Assisted Bicycle is a very specific creature in Oregon law under ORS 801.258. It must:

Be designed to be operated on the ground with wheels;
Have a seat or saddle;
Have no more than three wheels;
Have BOTH fully operative pedals for human propulsion AND an ELECTRIC motor; AND
That electric motor cannot have an output above 1,000 watts AND it cannot be capable of propelling the vehicle at a speed greater than 20 MPH on level ground.

Graffiti Removal Guy Comes Back to Discover Image of Himself in the Same Spot | artFido's Blog

by djempirical

Street artist DS recently added a couple of paste-ups to a wall in London. It didn’t take too long before a graffiti removal guy removed the paste-ups.  Shortly after that, DS was back with a paste up of the graffiti removal guy removing the graffiti. Gold!

Art imitates removal of art!

We’ve seen this before. From CDH:

“A few nights ago I went out and put up a poster. It’s a photo of a building on that building, like a surreal mirror of the environment it’s in.”

Fan01

“The next day I went to photograph the poster in the light of day. While I was photographing the poster, a man came out of the building and rushed up to me. I’m paraphrasing but the conversation went like this:

Guy (agitated): “Did you put this up?”
Me: “Nope.” (lie)
Guy: “But you know who did.”
Me: “Nope. I’m just a guy who likes photographing street art.”
Guy: “Huh, street art… No such thing. This is all just vandalism. I’d know, I have an Arts degree” (he actually said that).
Me: “I don’t know. Some of it looks really good. Surely this poster is better than the tag it went over?”
Guy: “I guess it’s a little better than tagging. But it’s still just vandalism. It’s not art. These people are just junkies high on petrol fumes and…”

I kind of laughed at that point. But it was one of those laughs that you try to hold in, so it comes out more like a snort. That made him a lot more angry. I guess he figured that I was either the artist, or I knew the artist because he then made a point of trying to tear down the poster in front of me. However I have just started coating posters in polyurethane to make them waterproof. What he (and I) didn’t know is that this apparently also makes the posters near impossible to tear off by hand. So instead of tearing it, he could only chip at the edges. He caught his finger nail under it, hurt himself and really cracked the angries. Then he pulled out his keys and kind of scratched at it for a while, but didn’t make much progress.

Me: “Do you mind if I photograph you tearing the poster down?”
Guy: “No. You should photograph it and put it on one of those little websites, to let all these other vandals know what happens when they put up this crap.”
Me: “Ok, I’ll do that.”
Camera: Click, click.

I took the photo of him tearing down the poster. I then turned that photo into a poster and put it right next to the last one.”

Fan02

Fan03

I assume he’ll take both these posters down now with a high pressure hose. So I also stencilled a special little message under the new poster to my new #1 fan.

Rape joke on Fox cartoons draws attention - Yahoo Celebrity

by gguillotte
firehose

'Katherine Hull Fliflet, spokeswoman for the Washington-based Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network, said she did not find the line offensive.

"I think the show is making it clear that rape is not funny by how they are positioning the joke," Fliflet said. "It's my hope that would be the viewers' take-away."

RAINN, which says it is the nation's largest anti-sexual assault organization and operates a rape hotline, works with creators in Hollywood to help them depict sexual assault realistically. The group lists actress Christina Ricci as a national spokesperson.

The National Organization for Women didn't respond to requests for comment on the Fox comedies.

MacFarlane brought up the line during a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, predicting he will get attacked for it in the media. "But in context," he said, "it's pretty funny." '

It punctuates a scene in which the incorrigible Bart is instructing Stewie Griffin in the art of the prank phone call. Bart dials the owner of Moe's Tavern and asks whether there is anyone there with the last name Keybum, first name Lee. When Moe calls out to his patrons, asking for a "leaky bum," everyone gets a laugh. Stewie thinks that's cool, and asks to make his own prank call. "Hello, Moe?" he says. "Your sister's being raped."

Hawkeye vs. Deadpool #0

I really appreciated all the little nods to Clint’s deafness in this issue. I’m glad other writers are acknowledging it and it’s not just a temporary thing in Fraction’s run. I also enjoy the fact that Wade apparently knows sign language.

Also deadpool has his mask up to expose his lips so Hawkeye can read his lips so he doesn’t have to sign everything

I love Deadpool so much, you guys. Love love him. Every time I find out something new about Deadpool, I love him more, because it’s always shit like this.

Deadpool is lovely.
