Dave Brockie, best known to the world as GWAR frontman Oderus Urungus, has opened an online store where fans can buy his artwork. Brockie is selling a number of GWAR-related art prints, as well as a number of non-GWAR-related but super NSFW works.

In a press release, Brockie said he’s been making art for 30 years and that, during that time, he’s been so busy that he’s constantly had to turn down people looking to buy his work. His print store should, according to his Twitter, “help put my slave through art school” as well as pay for the dental work Brockie says he needs after he was “kicked in the mouth by a circus mule.”  

Each of the prints is limited to just 1000 copies, is mounted on a piece of Masonite, and features a custom frame.

The tale starts last November, when Florida Highway Patrol trooper Charles Swindle stopped state Rep. Charles McBurney, R-Jacksonville, for doing 87 mph in a 70 mph zone. McBurney was driving a Toyota with a license plate identifying him as a state lawmaker; after checking with his sergeant, Swindle told McBurney “I’m cutting you a break” and cited him only for lacking proof of insurance — a $10 ticket rather than a $280 one that McBurney could have faced.

According to Florida state investigators, Swindle did the same for another driver he pulled over at the same time, telling his dispatcher “I’m going to write (McBurney) a warning and be nice; I’m going to stroke him ’cause I didn’t see his insurance card.”

But the episode bothered McBurney (who denied going 87 mph) so much that he wrote to Swindle’s superiors on legislature letterhead, complaining that Swindle was favoring state officials. “If those who enforce our laws fail to meet the highest ethical standards, there is erosion of that confidence,” McBurney wrote. “I am concerned that as Trooper Swindle acted in such fashion to me, that he would do so to any law-abiding citizen of our state.”

That letter launched an internal investigation, and two weeks ago, Swindle was fired for “conduct unbecoming a public employee.”

Tentative plans appear to be in the works for a sequel to SLC Punk!, the 1998 film that so sharply skewers the “tribe” archetypes that permeate the music scene, and then there’s another 90 minutes of movie. Despite telling a complete story about a self-avowed punk working so feverishly to avoid becoming a sell-out “poser” like his dad—only to wind up a sell-out poser like his dad, because that’s how stories work—writer-director James Merendino thinks there’s even  more irony to be mined from Matthew Lillard’s Stevo, now that he's a middle-aged man forced by society to wear normal pants.

IFC reports (and Merendino and Lillard confirm) the two are discussing shooting a follow-up this summer titled Punk’s Dead that would pick up 18 years later, reuniting the original characters who survived the crushing poverty and untimely death that comes with liking punk-rock ...

This ruling makes way for low cost Indian cancer drugs that will save lives. From the Article: 'Novartis lost a six-year legal battle after the court ruled that small changes and improvements to the drug Glivec did not amount to innovation deserving of a patent. The ruling opens the way for generic companies in India to manufacture and sell cheap copies of the drug in the developing world and has implications for HIV and other modern drugs too.'"

Early on the morning of May 13, 1862, a lookout on the U.S.S. Onward spotted a Confederate steamer heading out of Charleston Harbor directly toward the Union blockade. Commander F.J. Nickels was about to fire when he saw that the steamer was flying a white flag. “The steamer ran alongside and I immediately boarded her, hauled down [the] flag of truce, and hoisted the American ensign, and found that it was the steamer Planter, of Charleston, and had successfully run past the forts and escaped.”

The transport ship’s pilot, Robert Smalls, had resolved to escape slavery by steaming out to the Union warships blockading his city. When the ship’s white officers had gone ashore that night, he directed his eight fellow slaves to fire up the boilers and guided the ship to a nearby wharf, where they collected their families. Then Smalls donned the captain’s hat and coat and gave two long and one short blasts on the whistle as they neared Fort Sumter, as he had seen the captain do. The sentry sent him on his way. As he made for the Union fleet three miles away, he put up one of his wife’s bedsheets as a flag of truce.

Harper’s Weekly called the theft “one of the most daring and heroic adventures since the war commenced.” In his Naval History of the Civil War, Union admiral David Dixon wrote, “The taking out of the ‘Planter’ would have done credit to anyone, but the cleverness with which the whole affair was conducted deserves more than a passing notice.”

Smalls was given a monetary reward for the captured Planter and went on to serve in the South Carolina legislature and the U.S. House of Representatives. When Abraham Lincoln asked why he had stolen the ship, he said simply, “Freedom.”

The normally satirical website Funny Or Die launched a new initiative today called Kickstart Or Die. Not-so-fondly remembered shows take the spotlight in their intriguing crowdsourcing platform, so if you’ve been aching for a continuation of The Dinosaurs in the form of that grotesque baby’s one-man show, you know what to do. With just a little scratch coming out of your pock—ha ha, April Fool! You weren't fooled.

Funny Or Die created five pitch videos that range from a pathetic plea from the voice of Darkwing Duck to a Veronica Mars-styled movie continuation of Family Matters in the form of Taken 3. The homepage has a brief explanation noting the change, and a portal into each of the project’s Kickstart Or Die pages, complete with phony reward tiers. Enjoy!

The premiere trailer for Thief breaks down the best ways to be a successful person in the occupation of stealing and stealth, before pulling down Garrett's ninja mask and revealing a distinctive five-o'clock shadow (and what sounds like a new voice actor). We're no experts in thievery, but that seems like a bold move for someone who makes a living ripping off rich people.

Thief is due out for PC, PS4 and "other next-gen platforms" in 2014.

A few weeks ago, we saw some amazing illustrated Cards Against Humanity cards floating around on Tumblr. We caught up with their creator, Hamish, who created this hand-made deck for school credit.

How did you find out about Cards Against Humanity? Can you describe your first time playing?

I can’t quite remember how I came across Cards Against Humanity for the first time, but I have a feeling that after having heard about it a few times online, I saw something on Will Wheaton’s tumblr and decided I’d have a look, having been a big fan of Tabletop for a while. Once I got to the site I was pretty excited to find that it was free to download and print myself. So the two guys I live with and I got printing and cutting. After an hour or so of being in hysterics from reading each card as we cut them out we thought we’d get on with the first play through. We all thought it was amazing, and proceeded to play for a good few hours, getting progressively funnier and more ridiculous with each drink we had along with it. 

What inspired you to illustrate Cards Against Humanity?

Well I illustrated them as part of my first term submission for uni. We had to write ourselves a brief and I was struggling for ideas for the next part of mine. This was all about a week after I’d first got a hold of Cards Against Humanity, so one morning I just sort of got up and decided I’d see how many I could do before the Christmas holiday kicked off in a couple of weeks.

What process did you undergo to create your version of Cards Against Humanity?

When I set out producing them it became apparent pretty fast that I had quite a lot to do, so thought it might be best to give myself some pretty tight parameters to work within. I decided to set up by having a pile of blank 5x5 cm cards in front of me and my own printouts of the actual game along side, just turning one of the cards over at a time to reveal what it was I had to draw. Then giving myself 5 minutes to quickly draw the first idea that came into my head, and just moving on to the next card, coming back to them after an hour to ink each one up. After a quick scan at a pretty high resolution I then added them to one of the walls in our uni studio where I was working, I’m pretty sure they’re still stuck up there now.

How long did it take to create your version of Cards Against Humanity?

I think I created the Illustrations for the 260 odd cards in about two weeks, then gave myself another couple to put them together with the text for each card, print them up and cut them all down. The two weeks doing all those drawings passed so much quicker than the ones cutting them all up, which was a complete pain. Worth it when I had a set done though.
