Ice Scream, You Scream

by Anonymous

It's not the business's fault their customers are total fucking idiots but here we are. You don't want to have to find parking while your wife runs in to queue for 20 minutes for ice cream. So you double park. Or you block our driveway. You do know there's a parking lot across the street right? If you're going to be a dick you could do it there and be a less lazy. Waiting for a gourmet butts and gold scoop isn't a reason to put on your fucking hazards in the middle of the road. It would be one thing if you weren't one of at least 10 people that do this every day. But hey, your "it's only 10 minutes" adds up with everyone else's.

The rest of you bridge/tunnel people taking selfies in front of the sign, yeah you almost ran into my hand holding the cigarette. Yes you do it all the fucking time. I usually say something apologetic but it's getting to the point to where you idiots make it so people can't walk down the street and I'm starting not to care if I burn a hole in your American Eagle t-shirt.

And oh god, the stairs/lawns/cars around here are not an extension of fancy ice cream shop. People pay $ to live here and it's actually like, private property. That shouldn't be hard for you to understand. So when I come out and light up next to you, don't give me a dirty look.

The owner of the business is actually an incredibly nice and apologetic person. BUT THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE APOLOGIZE BECAUSE THEIR CUSTOMERS THINK EXPENSIVE ICE CREAM ENTITLES THEM TO BE ASSHOLES. JFC

Editing While Female

firehose

by Susan B. Glasser, editor of Politico

"Sheryl Sandberg may be a billionaire and a bestseller, but the Facebook COO’s self-help book is not a recipe for success in this or any other field. At least not yet. All of these women in journalism, Abramson perhaps most of all, have leaned in. They paid close attention to those anxiety-producing cover stories in the Atlantic about having it all. They looked men in the eye and asked for promotions and raises (well, sorta, kinda, maybe—look what apparently happened when even someone as powerful as Abramson dared to complain upon learning that her pay was not equal to that of her male predecessor). They somehow overcame the stigma of being called “bossy” as girls, and most of them have balanced both challenging career experiences and raising children at home. They did not lack in confidence—or at least figured out how to project it, even when they weren’t in fact entirely feeling it. In short, these women editors have done most of the things the professional women’s empowerment class recommends.

But still, they were not really able to succeed. They—and I—remained stuck in a trap not of our own making. It’s called editing while female."

Field notes from one of journalism’s most dangerous jobs.

These Were The First Female Astronauts In Science Fiction

While the first real-life woman to fly into space didn't do so until 1963, fictional women had already been zooming around the universe for more than a century.

The only thing I want in Avengers 2 is Cap picking up Thor’s hammer, totally unaware it should be impossible.

#STEVE ROGERS IS WORTHY

Screw that, I want Thor to lose his hammer. And there’s some guy playing with his dog like “Go Fetch”.

And then the dog comes back with the Hammer, and Thor shows up and sees the dog holding the hammer in it’s mouth, looks at the guy and says “That is a very good dog”

#bonus points: it’s clint’s dog

13  Hawkeye

So Hawkeye is probably one of the greatest monthlies in print at the moment.  It’s a perfect version of itself, a perfect fusion of artists and writer, of Hawkeye and Hawkguy, of pizza and dog.  Read it.  Read it all.  Let Hawkeye, starring Hawkeye (Kate Bishop) and Hawkeye (Clint Barton) and Pizza Dog (Arrow Lucky), become your monthly present to yourself.

Because every month could use some sprucing up.  Even a Mighty Month of Marvel.  Spruce it up by VOTING for the Marvel character you love best.

I love Pizza Dog best.

I DIDN’T KNOW THERE WERE BRONIES ACTUALLY LIKE THIS I CAN’T STOP LAUGHING

… This blew up my Poe’s Law meter. It couldn’t honestly tell me if this was a troll or not.

I… have no idea. I think that basically has to be a troll, because that’s been true of the entire series, but any time you bet against human stupidity, you lose.

Not a troll. One of my colleagues at work truly believes the show was always aimed at boys. I don’t know if he’s upset at this turn of events, and I’m not in a position to ask anymore, and I don’t really want to know.

I’m printing this out 1000 times and throwing it at anyone who comes at me about bronies.

Gambling Hot Streaks Are Actually Real

by Reuben Fischer-Baum on Regressing, shared by Reuben Fischer-Baum to Deadspin

via Tadeu

A fascinating new study on online gambling published in this month's issue of Cognition comes to an unexpected conclusion: winning a bet does, seemingly, make you more likely to win your next one. The researchers looked at 565,915 wagers placed by 776 online gamblers in Europe and the U.S., and found that the gamblers had a 48 percent chance to win on average. Once a streak began though, that number dramatically improved:
