While passing through Kootenay National Park in British Columbia, a driver for Tornado Hunter named Ricky Forbes captured this amazing footage of a determined mama bear reaching over a concrete median to rescue her highway-stranded cub.
Driving through British Columbia’s Kootenay National Park we stopped to capture a shot of a baby bear on the highway only to get much more of a show. While watching the cub we saw the mama bear stick it’s head over the barrier to save it’s young from its dangerous predicament. It almost looks like she looks both ways first! A very amazing sight to see.

Mind blown.
It features a black circle, which actually stays the same size, but appears to change when surrounded by a set of circles that grow and shrink over time.
The society notes: “Interestingly, this effect is relatively weak when looking directly at a stationary central circle. But if you look away from the central circle or move your eyes, or if the entire stimulus move across the screen, then the illusory effect is surprisingly strong – at least twice as large as the classic, static Ebbinghaus illusion.”
This features three strips of road and asks the viewer to point out which one they think looks different.
The final result is surprising.
The information on the illusion says it combines two well-known effects – the McGurk effect and the Margaret Thatcher effect.
Erm.

Sarah McCullough, a cultural studies PhD grad from UC Davis, gives some insight into how mountain biking grew out of the 1970s Northern California counter-culture.
Mountain biking, as we know it today, really did start in Marin County, just north of San Francisco. It was begun by a group of people that were more into biking for adventure. What they would do is take pre-World War II Schwinn Cruiser bikes and get a ride on a truck to the top of Mt. Tamalpais and then proceed to rocket down the mountain on dirt trails as fast as they could.
McCullough also touches on the nascent sport’s connection to The Grateful Dead, who played the Tour Del Mar, a combination bike race/folk festival held in Pescadero, California in the late-1960s.

Playing off the age-old baseball card in the bicycle spokes trick, Turbospoke is a new bike add-on shaped like a motorcycle exhaust that mimics motor sounds. The system still relies on cards — in this case, three waterproof ones with unique sounds — that clap on the bike’s spokes as you ride. The sound is then amplified by the hollow plastic exhaust tube. You can purchase the Turbospoke now through Vat19.
